It is being widely discussed that British supergroup The Who will be playing the halftime of the 2010 Superbowl XLIV. Since both drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle have passed, that leaves guitarist Pete Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey to put on the show. With a catalog chock full of great songs, from My Generation to the soundtrack to Tommy, this should prove to be a show worth watching. And any time I get to see Roger Daltrey, let alone hear him, is a great thing. Here is a clip of The Who's 1978 song, Who Are You?.
And here are the boys with one of their first hits, 1965's I Can't Explain.

Yeah - love them. This band was one of the first to experiment with Electronics in rock! And I am sure they will perform - Won't get Fooled Again - that is one of my all time rock classics!
ReplyDeleteSteveA, they are incredible, and I love so many of their songs, so many spark great memories. And Roger Daltrey, how hot is he?
ReplyDeleteThe Who?? lol Just kidding... A great band in thier day. I highly doubt they will have the impact at the Superbowl of McCartney or Tom Petty's performance. The last time I heard them, Daltry's voice was raspy and out of tune. (typical for his age, He's no sir Paul)
ReplyDeleteMY VOTE WOULD GO TO: The greatest live performing band of our current day as far as quality... DMB as in Dave Matthews Band. This band is seasoned, very well in tune, and performs live 8 months out of each year. Not to mention the fact that there musicians beat the shit out of every band in the world! STING would also fit the bill as to performing live, and bringing the finest musicians to the stage at Halftime.
At least at this year's Super Bowl, there will be no Bruce P*ssSteen garbage, No pop lip-sync garbage, no phony t*t shows, no marching bands, no 'Heal the World,' no "Winter Magic" f*gg*t ice-skating or other phony garbage themes, and hopefully no big bunch of dancers, streamer or flag-wavers, or other nonsense... Only a military flyover is appropriate. Forget the rest.
ReplyDeleteThe theme will be 'Kick-/\ss,' as it should be for a World Championship football game, and that is what The Who will do - Kick-/\ss!!! "...Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...!" I am geeked and cannot wait to see them! They will deliver!!!
Since only 2 of them are alive, if they are going to lip sync, let's just play a record and watch the light show, disgraceful.
ReplyDeleteThe first time he sang'get on my knees and pray' his voice says it before his lips. How Ironic ! Won't get fooled indeed !Pete was live and horrible.
