<div style="text-align: justify;">
I first found the films of Paul Bright when watching ANGORA RANCH, a 2006 release, on DVD. The film as filled with intelligence and charm, which I found irresistible. I continued with the writer/director/actor on his journey, eagerly awaiting his next projects, many of which I covered on this blog. So I was very happy to hear he was working on a new project, his 10th feature film. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America and it's no wonder with all the data breaches occurring at stores and financial institutions. Paul Bright's latest feature film STARS IN HIS EYES creates a felonious theft from a different source – a horoscope hotline. And the innocent victims are gay clients seeking new direction in their lives. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To complete the scheme the Mafia frames a chatty phone operator named Bob Hope (James Dixon, pictured above) who already has a felony conviction for civil disobedience. Meanwhile Hope is falling in love with the hotline's lawyer who is part of the scam. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What would be an overwrought drama is instead a quirky comedy with witty and playful horoscope 'experts' giving relationship advice to heartsick romantics. Unaware of their employer's scheme the underpaid staff discover they are the perpetrators of a massive crime. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hope manages to take this devastating development and turn it into unexpected opportunity for the victims and his co-workers. The tricky part is getting away with it. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
STARS IN HIS EYES films in Portland Oregon in early spring 2018. Written and directed by Paul Bright. Starring James Dixon, Jonas Israel, Walter Petryk and Paul Bright in the role of the dishonest lawyer. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<i>Clockwise: The Tony Award, Bernadette Peters, Ted Ross, and Rita Moreno.</i><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While thinking about the telecast for the latest Tony Awards last night, I decided to look back 40 years to the 1975 Tony Award show, and some of the incredible work celebrated. I will begin with a performer I love, who was nominated but did not win in 1975. Bernadette Peters was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical for her work in 'Mack and Mabel'. She played opposite Robert Preston, playing real life Hollywood lovers Mack Senett and Mabel Normond. The show featured music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, and I still love hearing some of the music today. In this clip, Bernadette sings "Time Heals Everything" from 'Mack and Mabel'.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Rita Moreno sings her big number from 'The Ritz'. She won the Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play, performing a song also sung by the winner of the Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical, Angela Lansbury. Ms. Lansbury played Mama Rose in a revival of 'Gypsy'. Moreno played Googie Gomez, a performer in a gay bathhouse in Manhattan. The place gets invaded by some mobsters, and, of course, hilarity ensues. This is Rita singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses" in the film version of the Broadway hit, 'The Ritz'. </div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The musical that earned many of the trophies in 1975 was the new look at an old favorite. With music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls and book by William F. Brown, 'The Wiz' told the story of 'The Wizard of Oz' in a more modern, urban setting. The Broadway show was such a success, it was soon also made into a film. One of the actors who made both the Broadway and film versions of the show was Ted Ross, who played the role of the Cowardly Lion. In fact, Ross was named Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical at the 1975 Tony Awards. I found this clip of him playing the role with Diana Ross, the late Michael Jackson, and Nipsey Russel in the film version. This is Ted Ross singing "I'm A Mean Old Lion" from 'The Wiz'. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ronnie Gilbert, perhaps best known as a member of the group The Weavers, passed away over the weekend at her home in California. She was 88 years old. While singing, it was hard to mistake the gorgeous and rich tone of her voice, as well as her bold and strong style of singing. The Weavers were formed in 1948 in Greenwich Village, New York, the epicenter of the Folk movement. The quartet was made up by Gilbert, Lee Hays, Pete Seeger, and Fred Hellerman. They made music that was uniquely their own, although many followed in their footsteps. They sang international traditional Folk songs, as well Glues favorites, Gospel songs, children's songs, and American ballads. The group had several hit songs, like "On The Top of Old Smoky", "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine", "The Wreck of the John B", and many others. This is the group singing the 1950 hit that was the b-side of another hit, "Goodnight, Irene". This is The Weavers singing "Tzena, Tzena, Tzena".</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Like many of the Folk musicians of the time, The Weavers had a strong liberal view on social issues, and communicated with their music. From the traditional songs they performed, to the songs about labor, their music put them on the firing line of some politicians in the 1950s, most notably, Joseph McCarthy. Seeger and Hays were 'identified' as members of the Communist Party, and called to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities. Seeger was found guilty of contempt, and the group soon discovered they were blacklisted, unable to play on television or the radio, and near impossible to find a venue to play live. Later, the FBI informant recanted his testimony, but the damage had been done. The group took time off, and reunited a few times in the 1950s and 1960s before breaking up in 1964. They reunited a few times, for the right cause, or just to give back to the fans who stayed with them through the years. This is The Weavers with "Wimoweh" from a reunion show at Carnegie Hall. </div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vZ06MuB8_04" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After the break up of the group, Ronnie did her own thing, at her own pace. She earned a master's degree in clinical psychology in the 70s, and worked as a therapist. Many of the Folk singers of the 1960s, especially the ladies, not only noted the influence Gilbert and The Weavers had on their career, but also invited her to sing with them. This is a clip from a 1988 show of Judy Collins, who invited Ronnie to join her on stage. Gilbert sang the 1950 hit by her old group, "Good Night, Irene", and both the audience and Collins joined in.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ronnie was married to Martin Weg from 1950 to 1959, and together they had a daughter, born in 1952. During years after that, Gilbert took time for personal exploration, and found herself involved in women's issues, and in relationships with women. In the 1980s, collaborated with Holly Near, one of the biggest out lesbian performers of the time. They worked together on three albums, and played live shows together. The following clip features Holly Near speaking of the influence of Ronnie Gilbert had on her career. The clip was taken from the 1982 documentary, 'Wasn't That a Time?", and Ronnie sings "Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out", and joins Near singing "Hay Una Mujer Desaparecida (Chile Song)".</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ronnie Gilbert passed away at her home in Mill Valley, California, from natural causes. To the best of my knowledge, Ronnie was still with partner Donna Korones, whom she had married in 2004 when then-Mayor of San Fransisco, Gavin Newsom, legalized marriage for all his citizens. The couple were together for nearly 20 years at the time of their wedding. With her passing, only Fred Hellerman of the original Weavers still survives. Rest in peace, Ronnie Gilbert, for I am sure you are singing harmony in an astounding chorus now. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today, I thought I would take a look back at some of the music that inspired me, and helped to form what is now quite a vast array of music. While growing up, I was not only exposed to Pop music that was playing on the radio, I also had my older brothers and sister with their music. But in high school, something changed. I did some of the yearly musicals, which exposed me to some different music. But it was when I sent on the yearly trip to New York City, just over a 2 hour drive from my home town, that I got y first taste of professional theater. And my first show was a magnificent way to start. It was 'Pippin', with words and music by Stephen Schwartz, starring Ben Vereen, John Rubinstein, Jill Clayburgh and Irene Ryan, directed and choreographed by the brilliant Bob Fosse. Sitting in the theater and watching it all come to life blew me away, and excited me in a way few other things did. This is a video of Ben Vereen singing "On The Right Track" from 'Pippin'.</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-6hmGLBnQ18" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had no idea what to expect when I went to see 'The Act', featuring Liza Minnelli. I was already a big movie buff, having watched many a musical on television, including many starring the late, great Judy Garland. I had seen Liza on the screen, but this time I would actually get to see her on the stage. I was so excited, and have to say, Minnelli lived up to the it all. I was blow away by the shear bravura of her performance. I mean, she was just electrifying in person. The show, which was little more than a star vehicle for Liza, showed off her talents as a singer and dancer. And certainly showed that John Kander and Fred Ebb were still excellent songwriters. This is Liza Minnelli singing "City Life" from 'The Act' in a performance from the 1978 Tony Awards.</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TvAURkgx-D0" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once I left high school, I went to college. At Albright College, in scenic Reading, PA, I found another school that planned yearly theater trips to New York, only now, you got to go for a weekend, and catch more than one show! One of the shows I saw was a phenomenal one I knew nothing about, 'A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine'. The show, which combined original songs with music by Frank Lazarus and lyrics by Dick Vosburgh with other music that fit the needs of the story, was a tribute show of sorts. The first act was a valentine to Hollywood, with humor and heart. The second act was a look at the Marx Brothers famous film 'A Night in the Ukraine'. Both were filled with reverence, camp, and a lot of love. Near the end of the first act, the cast performed a number without the orchestra, using their tap dancing shoes and voices to create a special moment. This is the cast of 'A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine' singing "Doin' the Production Code".</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bJhZobCtZLg" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was also lucky enough to get to a preview performance of a new musical by Stephen Sondheim, a little show called 'Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street'. Once again, I walked in blindly, knowing only I already was a fan of Sondheim's work. I found the entire show fascinating, from beginning to end, often getting chills from almost every aspect of the show. Angela Lansbury was perfect as Mrs. Lovett, and Len Cariou amazing as Sweeney. A young and handsome Victor Garber played Anthony, with an impressive voice. It was exciting, beautiful, scary, and sweet, sometimes all at once. In one of the sweeter moments in the second act, this is Ken Jennings with Angela Lansbury singing "Not While I'm Around" from 'Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street'.</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zet0XrrhiuU" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I purchased the original cast album for all four of these shows, and several others. I still have them, and listen to them to this day. I became a fan of the shows, and the cast who were in them. in a few years, I moved to New York City, and began to work in the Circle Repertory Theatre, in the West Village. I worked behind the scenes, as a carpenter and production manager. There were some fantastic shows, and some memorable bombs. I worked with some incredibly talented people, like designers John Lee Beatty (who I had a bit of a crush on), Dennis Parichy, and Jennifer Von Mayrhauser, as well as many talented actor, directors, and playwrights. I knew the late Lanford Wilson, and worked on Sam Shepard's 'Fool For Love'. And I don't think that would have happened without starting to see the shows I mentioned above, inspiring me. </div>

I have been enchanted with the music made by the gorgeous siblings from Pittsburgh, known as Candy Apple Blue. I was first introduced to them by SIRPAUL, and they have remained a steady feature of my playlists. Carly and Hoyt Emerick make catchy Electro<u>p</u>op songs I find impossible to resist. Recently, they have recorded with singer Nick Bramlett, and it sounds like a collaboration that is great for everyone. Together, they released a new music video for the song "Detonator", and I couldn't be happier. Bold and colorful visuals compliment the song, as well as the handsome artists performing the song. This is Candy Apple Blue with the music video for "Detonator" featuring Nick Bramlett (Tyler Nelson EDM Mixshow Remix).</div>

Ever since I was introduced to his by JD Doyle, I have been a fan of Matt Gold's music. There is a rich soulfulness in his voice, and a melodic beauty to his music. He is a real storyteller, bringing to life whatever tale is is singing about, and doing it with authenticity and style. This remains true with his latest single, "Low". Matt examines relationships and love, and what we do when we find ourselves in that situation. This is Matt Gold with "Low".</div>

<i>Left to right: Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London, and Lena Horne. </i><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lena Horne sings "At Long Last Love". The song was written by Cole Porter for his 1938 musical 'You Never Know'. The show was notable only because it was Porter's first show after the riding accident that left him using a cane for the rest of his life. Apparently, much of the show is forgettable, even though it featured music by Cole Porter and Robert Katscher, lyrics by Cole Porter, additional lyrics by Leigh and Edwin Gilbert, and songs by others as well. That description alone tells me it will be a bit of a mess. But it had this song, and here it is sung by the always brilliant Miss Lena Horne. </div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4KZbP8QhTl8" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Julie London sings "What Is This Thing Called Love". The song was written for the musical revue 'Wake Up and Dream', on Broadway in 1929. In fact, the show opened on December 20, 1929, making it the final Broadway opening of the 1920s. The song almost instantly became a Jazz standard, and is one of the most performed songs of Porter's impressive songbook. As London is still a favorite of my mother, I can't help but have a warm pot for her and her music. This is Julie London singing "What Is This Thing Called Love".</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hgHcB_fDw9U" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ella Fitzgerald sings "It's Alright With Me". The song is from the 1953 musical 'Can-Can'. The show featured the stories of the ladies performing in the Parisian dance halls of the 1890s. The musical was a success both in the original Broadway production as well as the original West End production in London. Here, it is performed by the iconic Ella Fitzgerald, whose voice is just so perfect to sing Jazz and standards as few others can. This is Ella with "It's Alright With Me". </div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="329" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gmMujxJNYj8" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Judy Garland sings "I Am Loved" from the 1950 musical, 'Out of This World'. The show was an adaptation of Plautus' comedy 'Amphitryon', featuring Roman Gods wanting to have some fun with mere humans. The show was the follow-up to the hugely successful 'Kiss Me, Kate', and was his first and only box office failure of the 1950s. Of course, there was only two more shows by Porter to come, 'Can-Can' and 'Silk Stockings'. But I think this song is a perfect way to end the post. This is Judy Garland singing "I Am Loved". </div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="329" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RRMUnKc8Ax8" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After decades of pain in his legs from the riding accident in 1937, and following 34 surgeries to try to fix it, Porter's right leg was amputated in 1958. Having already lost his mother in 1952, and his wife, Linda, in 1954, it was thought this was the final straw to break Cole, and he went in seclusion, writing no more music until his death in 1964. Luckily for us all, he left a rich songbook that will always entertain. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After several years of having to put up with the lifeless whispers of his son, Enrique, I think I had forgotten how truly talented Julio Iglesias was. The man was tall, handsome, and very sexy, and sure could sing. I remember back in the day, other singers like Frank Sinatra thought he was the best! As a recording artist, Iglesias has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, and is still hitting the studio, despite the fact he is now in his 70s. His first English-language hit was a cover of the great Cole Porter song, "Begin The Beguine", sung in both English and Spanish. He pretty much owned the 1980s, and it is no wonder with his voice and easy style. This is Julio Iglesias singing "Begin the Beguine". </div>

To get back to my "Date Night" series, I have decided on a double-feature of romantic comedies. Because I think we can all use a bit of laughter and more love in all our lives. The first up tonight is 'Sombrero', the 2008 release from writer/director Nathaniel Atcheson. The short tells a story of what happens when James attempts to meet his long-lost brother at a Mexican restaurant the same night Terry will meet up with a date he met online. It stars Michael Osborne as James, Jeff Lorch as Raymond, Anthony Sherritt as Robert, and Christian Zuber as Terry, and all four performances made me laugh. This is 'Sombrero'. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first thing I say about 'Bling', a 2013 release from Varun MacHhar, is how gorgeously shot the short is. It was filmed on location in Pune, Maharashtra, India, which is a beautiful place, at least if the pictures are true. The story is about best friends Rohan and Tiara, and the only thing that can come between a young closeted gay and his straight bestie. Of course, that would be stunning guy. Who will snag him first? The short stars Satyajeet Dubey as Rohan, Shabnam Pandey as Tiara, and Aakash Jaiswal as Sam. This is 'Bling'.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am a fan of the music of Cazwell, the rapper with blond hair, blue eyes, and a hot body who has released a new music video. I can't remember when I first discovered his music, whether it was when I sw the video for "Ice Cream Truck", or some other gem I still play on my iPod. His new single, "Downtown", follows in the style of his videos, meaning it is sexy, irreverent, and filled with hot men wearing as little as possible. So when I point out this music video is NSFW, I mean it. So if you are at work, do yourself a favor, and either favorite the video you you can come back too it - often - or put on the headphone and take you chance on being caught. Who knows, your boss might want to watch with you. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
"Downtown" is a single off the album 'Hard 2 B Fresh', and once again, Cazwell has me from the start. The song is an homage, of sorts, to life lived in the city, if you discount life on the Upper East and Upper West Sides of Manhattan. These are not boys going to the piano bar in the West Village, either. They used to hang out in midtown, before Mayor Giuliani banished the clubs and the porn theaters. So they go to the Lower East Side to see the boys strip, but drink it up at their apartment before they go out, to save some money. This is Cazwell with "Downtown".</div>

Not only am I a fan of Tom Goss, but my sister and a couple of my nieces are as well. It is easy to understand, with his easy charm, striking good looks, and an inherent sweetness make him easy to love. And his talent, both as a performer and a songwriter make him someone I recommend heartily to others, with confidence they will see and hear what I do. I look forward to whatever music he is making, be it his amazing original songs or his creative treatment of cover songs. </div>

The latest product from Tom is a cover song, working with model/blogger/actor/director/chipmunk enthusiast Max Emerson, who brings a strong helping of good looks and humor. Together they take on "I Don't Mind", a recent release from Usher, featuring rapper Juicy J. The original is a misogynistic ode to a stripper girlfriend that is, at times, rather cringe worthy. Tom and Max give it a bit of a makeover, offering an acapella version, laced with humor and self-awareness, making me smile and laugh as opposed to flinching and wincing. This is Tom Goss & Max Emerson with their take on "I Don't Mind" (Cover of the Usher feat Juicy J song).</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I first discovered the music of Irishman Gavin James on YouTube, with his sweet cover of Etta James' "At Last". As his music wasn't yet available in America, I went on a quest of sorts, finding music I could listen to. Once I did, I found myself being enchanted by the ginger boy from Dublin, Ireland. I was waiting for something I could purchase, so I could show my support for this artist. When 'Live at Whelans' showed up on my iTunes, I eagerly bought it, and it was instantly a part of my playlist. The live setting showcased some of the aspects I love about Gavin, allowing his voice to soar at times, while being subtle and controlled at others. Once I heard he was heading to the studio, I became very excited!</div>
<br />
<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/user/hrstumpde/media/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20May/New%20Music/Gavin%20James%20The%20Book%20of%20Love%20COVER_zpseub70yqm.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Gavin James The Book of Love COVER_zpseub70yqm.jpg" border="0" src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/hrstumpde/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20May/New%20Music/Gavin%20James%20The%20Book%20of%20Love%20COVER_zpseub70yqm.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fast forward to now, and the first studio recording is not only available, but also in my collection. "The Book of Love" was included in the live album, and I loved it. It was the lone cover included, as it was written by American indie musician Stephin Merritt and recorded by his band, The Magnetic Fields. There is an inherent romance to the song, almost intoxicating in it's honesty. While the original is fantastic, James has his own take on the song, offering a lighter, sweeter version that is hard to resist. This is the music video for Gavin James singing "The Book of Love".</div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, having a gay Irishman singing about wedding rings (written by a gay American artist) as his homeland is getting ready to hold a vote on marriage equality is a pretty cool thing. Yes, I do hate that breeders around the world seem to feel the rights of minorities should be up for public votes, while they would be horrified if their own rights were put on the table. But enough about politics, back to the music. "The Book of Love" will be included in the upcoming studio release 'For You', with three other songs also on 'Live at Whelans'. If this is any indication of what is to come, I can't wait to have 'For You' on my iPod. Until then, I will be giddy playing "The Book of Love" time and time again. You can find the single on <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-book-of-love-single/id989395039">iTunes</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WNTOO8A/ref=sr_1_2_rd?ie=UTF8&child=B00WNTOQ92&qid=1431492900&sr=1-2%3C/a%3E">Amazon</a>. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I first discovered the music of Romani Beau, the British singer/songwriter who combines Country and Folk to make his own style, inspired by his childhood in pastoral Kent, England. Maybe it was the gardens and countryside of his youth that gave him such a romantic view of the world, or perhaps he was born with a bigger heart than most. There are time I swear that poet John Keats leaped through two centuries in search of love, and found Emmylou Harris. Together, a child was born, and they named him Romani. He maintained the ethereal wonder of his 'father', while singing with the crisp and clear tone of his 'mother'. The music transports me much like the poetry of Keats, and the music of Harris. Like Emmylou, his music has a rootsy feel, at the intersection of Folk and Country. </div>
<br />
<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/user/hrstumpde/media/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20April/romani-beau-portrait_zpskppwneby.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo romani-beau-portrait_zpskppwneby.jpg" border="0" src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/hrstumpde/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20April/romani-beau-portrait_zpskppwneby.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier this year, Romani Beau released 'Molly and the Boys', a five song EP that I find every bit as charming as his last efforts, and maybe even more so. The collection kicks off with the title cut, an uptempo number that dances on the line between Pop and Country, and does so with a sweetness that is just yummy. Romani slows down things a bit with the second cut, "Joanne". There is a melancholy feel to the song, and yet there is still the inherent beauty to this love song. The third cut is "Gypsy", another uptempo song that leaps into my heart right away. I hope you agree. This is the official music video for "Gypsy".</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="329" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PsqJ6vanzEc" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once again, Beau slows thing down a bit with "Old Man's Lament". This has the feel of a traditional Folk song, combining a modern tale with a sprinkling of historic seasoning. The layered vocals allow Romani's voice to shine, singing harmonies with himself making for a perfect blend. This all helps him to bring the story to life. There is a timeless quality to "In the Lap of the Mountain", drawing me in to the heartfelt tale with breath and a sigh. The emotions run both deep and clear, washing over as I listen again. Just in case you need more than my words, here is a video prepared by Romani Beau giving you a taste of 'Molly and the Boys'. </div>

I've enjoyed this EP since the moment I downloaded it, and recommend it very highly. Like life itself, you can find so much joy, a bit of sorrow, and a great deal of love in this release. <div style="text-align: justify;">
Okay, I'll say it. I am not only a fan of Jeb Havens' music, I also have a crush on him. I just can't help it - he's kinda gorgeous, and so damned talented. I follow him on all the social media (yes, I expect the court papers to arrive soon), and listen to his music often. Recently, Havens teamed up with Michael Powers, an American Idol Season 11 contestant, to make some cool music. I have opted to showcase their duet on "Enough", the song originally featuring a duet with Reba McEntire and Jennifer Nettles, two incredible singers in their own right. But I must say, the two out and proud singers certainly claim ownership of the song, and make it something I wanted to listen again and again. This is Jeb Havens and Michael Powers with "Enough". </div>

I have never been shy in professing my love for Ricky Martin. I've been enamored for over a decade (God, I'm old), and I swear he keeps getting better looking, and even sexier. I could easily convince myself he secrets from drug, for he has me addicted. I need to watch his videos, and listen to his songs. Even the non-English language stuff, despite the fact I don't speak Spanish. Hey, I took French in high school and college! But rest assured, if Ricky wanted me to, I'd learn Spanish so fast, he'd be impressed and want to marry me...</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few weeks ago, I featured the music video for Ricky's "Disparo al Corazon", and it was then I realized I had not posted about the first single and music video released from the latest album, 'A Quién Quiera Escuchar'. "Adios" is the aforementioned video, and I kinda love it. It is uptempo, melodic, and a little bit quirky, so what is not to love? I love the sexy playfulness, and the way Martin just owns the screen whenever he is on it. I can't listen to it enough, and the same is true for the whole album. This is Ricky Martin with the music video for "Adios".</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The amazing Betty Buckley made her Broadway debut in 1969, in the musical '1776', playing Martha, the young and fiery wife of a young Thomas Jefferson. She renewed her Broadway star status in 1982, when she owned the stage in the Broadway production of 'Cats', playing the Grizabella, the Glamour Cat. Her turn on the stage singing "Memories" was instantly iconic, and earned her the Tony. She also played Nora Desmond in the London production of 'Sunset Boulevard', taking over for Patti Lupone after the show had run for almost a year. The show was dark a month, and was retooled both with story and music. She eventually replaced Glenn Close in the original Broadway production, once again garnering rave reviews. She also was a star of the original Broadway production of 'Carrie', 'Triumph of Love', and 'Drood'. She also had memorable roles in television and movies, in shows like 'Eight is Enough', 'Oz', and 'Pretty Little Liars'. Her most popular movie appearances were in 'Carrie' and 'Tender Mercies'.</div>

All the while, Buckley was also developing a music career, putting out albums, and offering live performances in some of the top cabarets and clubs. Buckley's shows were must have tickets, everyone was clamoring to get in. The music was a combination of great songs from the stage, as well as original tunes composed by Betty herself. Tonight, I featuring her singing a song written by Jason Robert Brown for his off-Broadway musical revue, 'Songs From a New World' in 1995. This is Betty Buckley singing "Stars and the Moon". </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
To continue with my celebration of Mother's Day, I thought I would offer up a clip I recently found on YouTube. It stars the deliciously talented duo of Jonathan Groff and Christian Borle, singing a duet as a part of MCC's 'Broadway Miscast'. I am telling you, those clips can entertain me for hours. The premiss of the yearly concert is bringing on Broadway standouts, and give them a chance to perform a song for a role in a show in which they would never be cast. Groff and Borle, both known for incredible performances on Broadway, as well as strong performances in TV and film, chose to play sisters Baby June and Louise from the iconic show 'Gypsy' when they sing "If Mama Was Married". The score for 'Gypsy' was written by Jule Styne, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. I think Jonathan and Christian do a great job with the song, and make me smile from deep inside. This is Jonathan Groff and Christian Borle with "If Mama Was Married" from 'Gypsy'.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I must admit I've had a bit of a crush on Gavin Creel for some time now. And it was long before I saw the picture posted above. He was a Broadway star, nominated for a Tony Award in his Broadway debut in 'Thoroughly Modern Millie', playing paperclip salesman Jimmy Smith opposite the ever-delightful Sutton Foster. I saw him performing on a show, either one of the morning shows, or on a talk show. Creel was adorable, and so damned talented. His voice was just so gorgeous, I had to go out and find the Broadway Cast Album for the show. And I continued to follow his career. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Outside of cast albums, Creel has three releases of his own, with two full albums and one EP. 'Goodtimenation' was his first full album, released in 2006. The first track off the album is "For Nancy", a song dedicated to his mother. The song is so heartfelt, so genuine, it touches me every time I hear it. In this particular performance, he pairs it up with a song from a show he also starred in on Broadway, earning him another Tony nomination. 'Hair' features music by Galt MacDermot and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni. Eight times a week, Gavin took to the stage as Claude and sang "I Got Life", one of many songs in the sore that had popular recordings made. This is Gavin Creel singing "For Nancy" and "I Got Life". </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can find "For Nancy" on the album 'Goodtimenation', available for purchase from <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/goodtimenation/id186855577">iTunes</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001039NWC/ref=sr_1_13_rd?ie=UTF8&child=B001037YNW&qid=1431215955&sr=1-13%3C/a%3E">Amazon</a>. He followed up that album with the exquisite EP, 'Quiet' in 2010, and the electric 'Get Out' in 2012. I am fond of them all, and have listened to them in the last month. They are all available on iTunes and Amazon. For more about Gavin Creel, visit his <a href="http://www.gavincreel.com/">official website</a>. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Long John Baldry had some hits going on in the 1960s in the UK, most notably 1967's "Let The Heartache Begin". Baldry was almost everything the record executives were looking for: tall (6'7"), blond, handsome and talented. What they didn't like was that he was a gay man, and even in the 60s, he didn't want to play the games. In fact, the laws were so repressive for gay men and lesbians, Baldry decided to leave the country and head for North America. No, not the United States, who were even more repressive. He went to Canada, the most socially progressive country around. When he was still flying high though, he worked with two young men who appreciated all he did for them. One was young rocker Rod Stewart, and the other was keyboardist Reginald Dwight, later known as Elton John. His buddies helped him out later, producing the 1972 album 'Everything Stops For Tea'. Each took ownership of one side of the album, hoping to help their friend revive his career. One of the songs not only featured Baldry, but also Stewart, as both took on the traditional Blues song "Mother Ain't Dead". I hope you enjoy it.</div>

<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="329" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SV761kcdWLg" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The album did not return Long John to the top of the charts, but is did bring him closer and closer to the music he loved, the Blues. In fact, he was one of the artists I enjoyed listening to, even before I discovered he was gay. I still enjoy listening to his music, but I am sad that he has been gone for almost 10 years now. 'Everything Stops For Tea' can be purchased from <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/everything-stops-for-tea/id59415269">iTunes</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012FCDDE/ref=sr_1_48_rd?ie=UTF8&child=B0012FANDQ&qid=1431229064&sr=1-48%3C/a%3E">Amazon</a>. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sometimes, I surprise myself. It has been far too long since I have included the handsome and talented Nick Adams on this blog. He is a true triple threat, being an excellent dancer, as well as a strong singer, and an excellent actor. And man, is he gorgeous. In fact, he is so nice to look at, it is easy to forget just how talented he is. So I thought I would start with him singing a classic song, one everyone knows. That would be "On The Street Where You Live" from 'My Fair Lady', written by the great team of Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner. The musical debuted on Broadway in 1956, and starred Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews. He has sung it a couple of times, and I just love it. This is Nick Adams singing "On The Street Where You Live".</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nick has an impressive resume, starring on Broadway in the revivals of great musicals like 'Chicago', A Chorus Line', and 'Guys and Dolls'. HE was also a member of the original Broadway cast of 'The Pirate Queen' and 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. He played the role of Adam/Felicia, the younger of the trio who take a bus trip together. He had several numbers in the show, including his version of "Like A Prayer", written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard. The song was, of course, the title cut of her 1989 album, and a big hit. The Broadway version was a bit different, but very special in it's own way. This is Nick Adams singing "Like A Prayer" with the Divas from 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Currently, Nick is on tour with the music 'Wicked', with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Adams is playing Fiyero Tiggular, the prince of the Arjiki tribe. He had a bit of a romance with Elphaba, the Wicked Witch, while at college. There was an attempt on his life, only to be saved by former love. It is through her saving spell that he is transformed into a scarecrow. But before all that happens, he sings "Dancing Through Life". This is a clip of Nick singing the song as part of the National Touring Company. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am not sure exactly when S2MD passed 2 million hits, but is sneaked up on me, and passed me by. But even if it surprised me, I find it cause for celebration. So light the fireworks, and and strike up the band, and let the party begin! </div>
<br />
<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/user/hrstumpde/media/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20April/fireworks_zpsn9wwzz6w.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo fireworks_zpsn9wwzz6w.jpg" border="0" src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/hrstumpde/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20April/fireworks_zpsn9wwzz6w.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But before I drink just a little too much, I wanted to say to everyone who reads this blog that I am so very grateful for your support over the past six years. I must admit, when I started 'Soundtrack to my Day' in June of 2009, I had no idea I'd still be at it, and would have more that 2 million hits. For that, I owe my heartfelt thanks to all who have stopped here, and helped me share some great music. But, I must admit, rather than spewing more, I think I will let an artists speak for me. This is the late, great Sylvester, with his wonderful song "Grateful".</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="329" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bs5EUO8Ggh4" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For many who stop by here, I feel as though we have become friends, or more apropos, e-friends. Like we are back in college again, you stop by my room, listen to some music, and hopefully, had a great time. We might be in different states, or, in some cases, in different countries, but we are having a shared experience nonetheless. To thank my dear friends, I thought I would share with you a great clip of Michael Feinstein singing "Old Friend", written by Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford. </div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="439" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jtABADNJnT4" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And, finally, I want to offer a big "Thank You!" to everyone involved, be it those who stop by to read and listen, as well as the artist who are making amazing music that inspires me all the time. While I love all music, it is the LGBT artists in particular that really lift me up, and make me proud to post about their music. In my time writing this blog, I've seen artists releasing music, some of which I still follow and love. Others made a big impression, but just kinda disappeared, like the band I am featuring next. Archy & Mehitabel was made up by the very handsome duo of Lee Waters & Alexander Horwitz. I loved all the music they made, and still listen to it. And they have the perfect song for the mood I am in. This is "Thank You" by Archy and Mehitabel. </div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="329" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/59-OV8OGn7w" width="585"></iframe><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, once again, I just want to thank everyone who helps make this blog possible. From the readers of the blog, both regular and those who just stopped by for a favorite song, to the artists who sing their heart out and make music I can't help but share, to the fans with their posted videos that reminds me of some great music, to the people who share links to help promote these amazing musicians. Thank you all, 2 million times over. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was thrilled to get the notification of a new music video for the one and only Miss Hope Springs. I have noticed the grand dame is preparing a new show in London, 'Queen of Fools', set to open early next month. One can only hope there will be a new album to accompany that show. After all, not everyone can fly over to catch her performances, but I can live vicariously through the videos and albums so I can feel like I was there, drinking in her glorious talent. The latest is "Where Have the Good Times Gone", a wistful remembrance that combines just the right amount of melancholy to the song. It makes me think Miss Hope Springs is the Miss Peggy Lee for a new generation, with her husky vocals imparting knowledge while striking a balance of heart and irony to keep me under her spell. This is Miss Hope Springs with her latest, "Where Have the Good Times Gone".</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">'Carousel' opened on the Broadway stage on April 19, 1945, seventy years ago yesterday. The show played in the Majestic Theatre, on 44th Street. With music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical seemed destined for greatness. It was their second collaboration, following the hugely successful 'Oklahoma!'. The show was directed by Rouben Mamoulian, with dances by Agnes De Mille. The great choreographer had previously worked on the original production of 'Oklahoma!'. The set and lighting were designed by the great Jo Mielziner, and the costumes by the fantastic Miles White, who also designed the costumes for 'Oklahoma!'. Carousel starred John Raitt and Jan Clayton (pictured below), both of whom made their Broadway debuts with the production. </div><br />
<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/user/hrstumpde/media/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20April/Carousel%20John%20Raitt%20Jan%20Clayton_zpskoihh2xz.jpeg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Carousel John Raitt Jan Clayton_zpskoihh2xz.jpeg" border="0" src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/hrstumpde/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20April/Carousel%20John%20Raitt%20Jan%20Clayton_zpskoihh2xz.jpeg" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Like much of the history of musical theater, there is plenty of lore about the original production. Rodgers and Hammerstein wanted unknowns for the production, and had only one member of the cast had prior Broadway experience. It was said they 'discovered' John Raitt while auditioning singers for the touring company of 'Oklahoma', and instantly knew he was perfect for 'Carousel' while he was just warming up to give his audition. Jan Clayton, a California resident like Raitt, was discovered by Theresa Helburn, who brought her East to audition for the female lead, which she landed. Together, they made a magical pair. This is John Raitt and Jan Clayton singing "If I Loved You", recorded for television to mark the 10th anniversary of the show. </div><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Christine Johnson played the role of Nettie Fowler, and sang one the most moving and well-known songs from the score. Johnson was an opera singer, already singing regularly with Metropolitan Opera. 'Carousel' was her first, and only, Broadway show. After staying with the original Broadway production for hundreds of performances, she took time off the study in Italy, and returned to join the national touring company. She returned to Broadway to again sing the role of Nettie in the 1949 revival, before returning the Owensboro, Kentucky, where she married and had two children. But she will long be remembered as the woman who gave voice to the show stopping number, "You'll Never Walk Alone". </div><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Returning to some of the great stories of Broadway, many told the tale of Richard Rodgers, who had injured his back prior to opening, and was propped up on a stretcher in the wings, fearful the audience would not respond to the musical. It was also said that Rodgers' daughter, Mary, was in the audience, and made eye contact with a dear friend. That fellow teenagers was Stephen Sondheim, and both had tears in their eyes. The musical certainly left a huge mark on the hearts of many, running for 890 performances, closing on May 24, 1947. The show went on a national tour for two years, before returning to New York in 1949. The show was once again in the Majestic Theatre until it closed. Once month later, the Majestic was filled once again when Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'South Pacific' opened to widespread acclaim. </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09690597078607161109noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263715199313458076.post-60393630457192915042015-04-02T13:00:00.000-04:002015-04-02T13:00:00.813-04:00Matt Gold • On The Way<a href="http://s55.photobucket.com/user/hrstumpde/media/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20March/New%20Music/MattGold3_zpsspbxgjk2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo MattGold3_zpsspbxgjk2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/hrstumpde/Soundtrack/2015/2015%20March/New%20Music/MattGold3_zpsspbxgjk2.jpg" /></a><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">There has been much written, said, tweeted and posted about the supposed 'Religious Freedom' law signed into law by Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Sure, I have my opinion of what has unfolded, but what is even more important is the thoughts of an Indiana resident, like Matt Gold. Regular readers of the blog will know the music of this out and proud man from previous posts - I must admit I am a fan. But in the wake of the coverage of this bill, Gold has written a heartfelt and touching response, one that I felt compelled to share with you all. "I felt I had to write a song about what was going on in the state I have lived in for the past 20 years," Gold said on his Soundcloud page. "This is my way of hopefully helping the cause with positive reinforcement, sending a message of love, not hate." This is Matt Gold's "On The Way". </div><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">I just found this song to be lovely, and touched me on a deeper level than any amount of yelling could. He doesn't allow the conversation to be highjacked by tales of pizza parlors or Presidential primary hopefuls. Instead, he speaks for himself, and in the process, for so many others who won't stand for bigotry and hate. For those interested, I am posting the lyrics here. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Ryan Amador first came to my attention with his startling video for his single, "Define Me". Ryan teamed up with another out artists, vocalist Jo Lampert, to deliver a strong statement with the touching song and a sobering music video. Amador once again joined forces with Lampert to bring another statement to life with the song, "Spectrum". The song is the second single off the EP '4S'. Ryan and Jo are joined by Gyasi Ross, an acoustic Hip-Hop artist who delivers a soulful rap. "Spectrum" discusses the range of sexuality found in the world today, which is also reflected in the couples featured in the video. "Spectrum" offers the topic a real but lighthearted treatment, offers some insight as well as a chance to dance while you listen. This is Ryan Amador with Jo Lampert and Gyasi Ross with the official music video for "Spectrum".</div>
