Christmas Music - Melissa Etheridge

Melissa Etheridge

To celebrate Houston's election of an openly gay mayor, Annise Parker. Parker ended up with almost 54% of the vote, making Houston the largest city in the nation with a gay or lesbian mayor. Congratulations Annise Parker and citizens of Houston!

To help celebrate this accomplishment, I thought I would offer the music of out lesbian Mellisa Etheridge. She is an artist who has been out during her career, never failing to take a stand on gay rights and using her celebrity to advance the civil rights of others.

Melissa has maintained a high profile since her first album, a self-titled release in 1988. She not only has spoken about LGBT issues, but also the environment and others. She won an Academy Award in 2006 for I Need To Wake Up from An Inconvenient Truth. And in 2004, she was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer, and performed at the 2005 Academy Awards with shorn hair, having lost it during treatment.

You can find more about Melissa on her website here. You can visit the official website for Annise Parker here.

  1. I love her voice to Christmas music - she is such a rocker and her style just makes me think that she knows what she is all about - with no apologies!
