Tonight on BBC America, catch the latest episode of Doctor Who. A Good Man Goes To War airs at 9PM/8PM Central. My fellow Whovians, you'd better enjoy this one, because it is the last new episode until September, when they return with the title Let's Kill Hitler. And, after watching this episode, I can tell you it is an excellent one, and, well, OMG, what we learn tonight!
At the end of the last episode, we learned that the Amy who has been with use for much of the season hasn't been the real one - instead, she is the 'Flesh' one, like the faux-people in the last two episodes. Before the end of the episode, The Doctor promised to find the real Amy, just before he melts the Flesh-Amy, and took off with Rory. We also discover that Amy was pregnant, and the Doctor knew it, although Rory did not. The episode starts on an intergalactic army base, with humans working with the hooded Monks, seemingly preparing for battle with The Doctor. This includes a self-described "Think-Fat Gay Married Anglican Marines" couple who apparently don't have names. We cut to Rory showing up in his Centurion costume, about to wreak havoc on an invading bunch of Cybermen. He is taking no prisoners in his way to find Amy and the baby. Well, except when he tries to get the aid of River Song, who declines, saying she must stay away from the Doctor just now...
They introduce us to Lorna Bucket, a human working on base repairs, and offering a present for Amy's daughter, Melody Pond. The boys also tell us a bit about the hooded monks, who have no head under those hoods, to steer clear of emotional reactions. That leads to scenes with some of The Doctor's nemeses, hearing the sound of the TARDIS, and wondering about answering that call.
The doctor is serious about his intent to find Amy and bring her and the baby home.Thank includes going to Demon's Run, the base, to take on the human/monk teaming, which looks more and more Nazi-ish as they prepare for the Doctor. But they don't seem to be really ready for him when he shows up.
Soon we learn that they weren't after Amy at all, but instead it is Melody the woman with the eye-patch wants. Will she be able to escape with the baby, or will Rory and The Doctor save the day?
The battle becomes a war of wills, then a war of wits. The headless, hooded monks have broadswords that have power running through them, so they are no easy foe. The battle rages, but will there be a winner? When River Song arrives, she will have news that will send all you've thought spinning. It certainly did me!
And remember, no new episodes until September! You can check out the official website at BBC America here. Check out the trailer for the episode.
