Worth Another Listen - Steve Forbert

In the late 70s and early 80s, Steve Forbert was all the rage. To many fans and critics, he was a cross between Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, and destined for stardom. That, however, was not proven to be true, although I do enjoy his music, and have a couple of his releases in my collection. In 1979 he released his second album, Jackrabbit Slim. Stylistically, he was cut from the folk singer/songwriter mold, so it is no surprise I would like him. Also, he was around my age, and cute as a button. His own particular brand of folk/rock could binge on the pop side at times, as it did with his biggest hit, Romeo's Tune. I already had a crush on the boy, and this pretty much sealed that deal. Such a sweet, sweet song. It reached #11 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.

In 1982, Forbert had a falling out with his record label, and that kept him out of the recording studio for six years, and he never quite recovered his popularity. He remains to this day a bit of a critics darling, but his sales were never the same. Forbert remains a full-time musician, putting out CDs and touring, but has not since cracked the pop charts. However, he still looks good.
