You're The Top • What's Up Doc?

What's Up Doc movie poster

For the opening and closing credits of the movie What's Up Doc?, Barbra Streisand sand the great Cole Porter song, You're The Top. The song was written for the great musical Anything Goes, which premiered on Broadway in 1934. What's Up Doc? was a screwball comedy directed by Peter Bogdanovich and co-starred Ryan O'Neal, who joined Streisand in the closing credits version of the song.

The movie also had an amazing performance by the late great Madeline Kahn. She played Eunice Burns, the annoying fiance of Howard, the geeky musicologist played by O'Neal. The musicologist was swept into the zany life of Judy, and hijinks ensue. Confusion about a leather case, mistaken identity, and a parade through San Fransisco's Chinatown all lead to great laughs.

Kahn's performance, with the voice that is like fingernails on the chalkboard, is so wrong it is right. You can rent What's Up Doc? on iTunes or buy it here. You can also check it out on Amazon here.
