I thought of this song as we are getting what might be the last heatwave of summer as the season draws to a close. So I reached back in the vault [otherwise known as YouTube], and found this version by Janis Joplin, who, in many ways, might be the poster child for livin' that ain't easy. And she certainly managed to put her own stamp on the song in this 1969 performance in Stockholm. Enjoy.
For sure one of a kind. I wonder if the movie on her life will ever be made? It's been through so many incarnations already.
ReplyDeleteShe is one of my all time most favorite singers in the entire world. I love this song- thanks so much
ReplyDeleteMicheal, hard to say, as the movie seems to have stopped and started so many times. Would be interesting, though.
ReplyDeleteZombie, I agree, she is amazing. You are welcome!
She is awesome! I thought the movie "The Rose" was about her life? Or maybe it was based on it!
ReplyDeleteSteveA,'The Rose' was loosely based on her life, but there were legal issues that left if slightly vague...
ReplyDeleteThat was the year before she died. We're the same age (she's almost 9 months older than I am), and she died the day after my 27th birthday. Only 27 and made such an impact on music! What on earth would she have been like if she'd made it this far? I think about her, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Jim Morrison, and others who left too soon, but thank goodness they were here. Thanks for posting this. I hadn't seen that one.
ReplyDeleteJoy, I agree, there were several who left us too soon, but thankfully they left so much behind to enjoy.
