QBoy • Music Makes Us Dance (Feat Darkwah)

QBoy - Music Makes Us Dance photo QBoyDance001_zpsf0df4c2e.jpg
QBoy - Music Makes Us Dance photo QBoyDance003_zpsdd75bbdf.jpg QBoy - Music Makes Us Dance photo QBoyDance004_zps0acfa7fa.jpg

QBoy is a talented musician from England who has been a part of the music scene for several years, an important part of the Homo-Hop movement in the early 2000s. He came to the attention of many in 2006 with the release of "A Deal With God", an honest retelling of his being bullied in high school for being gay, with a sample from the great Kate Bush. He has remained in the forefront of the movement, and has collaborated with artists like Levi Kreis, Johnny Dangerous, and Matthew Duffy. QBoy has a new single out, and it is a strong one. "Music Makes Us Dance" also has a new music video, also featuring Darkwah, a club mainstay and fashion designer. The song is a strong synth-based entry to my playlist. This is QBoy with Darkwah with "Music Makes Us Dance".

At least for the time being, you can get a FREE Download of the song on QBoy's Soundcloud page. To learn about QBoy, visit his official website, 'follow' him on Twitter, and 'like' him on Facebook. You can find QBoy's other music on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon. I must admit I wish more of his music was available in the United States. But I do enjoy what I have, and look forward to more!

Kristine W • #1 in 2003

Kristine W photo Kristine_W_zps2e12bf04.jpg

Just ten years ago, a beautiful singer was topping the Dance charts with a couple of songs that were also a part of the soundtrack of a hit television series. Kristine W was no stranger to the music charts, scoring 16 #1's on the Billboard Dance charts since "Feel What You Want" went to the top in 1995. But 2003 was a return of sorts for Kristine, who had been diagnosed with AML Leukemia in 2001. She spent two years fighting the disease, before returning to the studio with a clean bill of health.

Kristine W photo KristineW_zps01b56455.jpg

But she did return in 2003, taking up exactly where she had left off. She recorded with Murk, a house-music production team composed of Ralph Falcón and Oscar Gaetan. "Some Lovin'" was a great collaboration, and put Kristine back at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart, making it a remarkable six consecutive chart toppers. The song was used in the soundtrack to Showtime's 'Queer As Folk', and some scenes were also used in the music video. The Hi-N-R-G song packs power, and Kristine was there to deliver the knock-out punch, her amazing vocals. Enjoy the music video for "Some Lovin'", featuring Murk and Kristine W.

Now that she was back to work, Kristine didn't wait too long before she released an album of her own material. 'Fly Again' was released under the Tommy Boy Entertainment label, and the title track was the first single. "Fly Again" was written by Kristine and Jesse Houk, a DJ/artist also known by the unfortunate name, The Scumfrog. The first single proved people were still wanting the music Kristine was making, for it too went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart. This is the music video for "Fly Again".

The next two singles from the album, "Save My Soul" and "The Wonder of It All", also went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart, making it nine #1 singles in a row. The fourth single off the album, "I'll Be Your Light", broke the string, only making it to #2 on the charts. But don't feel too bad for her, as the next seven singles all made it to #1. To learn more about Kristine W, visit her official website. You can also 'like' her on Facebook, and 'follow' her on Twitter. You can purchase the album 'Fly Again', available on iTunes and Amazon.

Sam Sparro • Quantum Physical Vol 1 EP

Sam Sparro photo sam-sparro_zpsde8ec717.jpg

Handsome and talented, Sam Sparro has been a man to watch since he released his self-titled debut album in 2007 in the UK, and 2008 in the US. The second single off the album, 'Black and Gold' was a world-wide hit, giving the Australian-born artist a high profile. His music is sexy, energetic, soulful and bold, and who could ask for anything more? His voice is strong, with an impressive range, which he takes advantage of quite well. Last year, he released 'Return to Paradise', in the UK, although it was never officially released in the States. I posted my review just over a year ago.

Sam Sparro - Quantum Physical Vol 1 photo SamSparroQuantumPhysicalV1COVER_zps596feaea.jpg

I was very excited to hear 'Quantum Physical Vol 1' was being released, and available here in the United States, too! I couldn't resist, and downloaded my copy of the four-song collection, eager to his the play button and hear what yummy delight he has to offer now! 'Quantum Physical Vol 1' kicks off with "Infinite", igniting the album with a driving percussive beat before Sparro's voice takes control. The song toys with the title, offering a digitally enhanced "Don't Stop" under the "Infinite", which made me smile. The song truly gets a groove going, and I love it. The second track is "Hang on 2 Your Love", and it features Durand Bernarr. This song was released a few months ago, and I immediately feel for it. It is amazing to me, how Sparro makes me bite hooked, line and sinker every time! I think the third cut, "Fascism", might be my favorite song off the EP, with the blend of Electronica and Sparro's soulful vocals making for a sexy burst of luscious energy. I found this live performance by Sparro, giving you the opportunity to hear for yourself.

"Fight or Flight" begins with a smooth, mellow flow. I love when Sam allows the music to caress the notes. The song picks up in the chorus, giving an island feel, mixing up the drums, toying with a Reggae feel but never really leaving the smooth R&B sound. Sparro fully engages in this luscious and sexy song, and I just can't listen enough. It completes the EP, one I highly recommend to be added to your collection. You can purchase Sam Sparro's 'Quantum Physical Vol 1 EP' from iTunes, and Amazon. For more about Sam Sparro, visit his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter and 'like' him on Facebook.

That Rogue Romeo • Rebuilt

That Rogue Romeo photo That-Rogue-Romeo_zps728dc4fe.jpeg

Sometimes, you come across a talent that manages to both intrigue and delight you. Earlier this year, one such artist was That Rogue Romeo. After checking out a few videos, I knew I had to have his album, 'Machine & Magic'. With a bit of research, I learned That Rogue Romeo was Kevin Stea, the talented dancer I first noticed in 'Madonna: Truth Or Dare', the documentary that recorded the Blond Ambition tour, where Stea acted as both Assistant Choreographer and Dance Captain. More recently, I had seen him in the film 'Naked Boys Singing', where he proved to be both talented and sexy. Fast-forward a few years, and I was watching those music videos, and going to iTunes. A few of months ago I reviewed the wonderful album from That Rogue Romeo, 'Machine & Magic'. You can read that review here.

That Rogue Romeo - Rebuilt cover photo ThatRogueRomeoRebuiltCOVER_zpsa9f3df93.jpg

Now you can hear the Remix collection from that album, 'Rebuilt'. The 19-track collection includes remixes of seven of the songs from 'Machine & Magic' with several from different DJs on the hits, like "City of Glass","Domino", and the title cut "Machine & Magic". You can get a sample of what is on 'Rebuilt' when you listen to "Domino (DJNB's Club Mix)" here.

I think one of my favorite tracks from the first album was "City of Glass", which had a unique and layered sound I so enjoyed. So I was intrigued to hear the remixes, and three are four offered in the collection. I think my favorite is "City of Glass (AP's Tribal Mix)", and I was happy to find a clip on YouTube I could share with you. I hope you love it too.

I think this is just the ticket to start the weekend with just the right flavor. Hit play and get ready to move with the beat! You can purchase 'Rebuilt' from iTunes and Amazon. To learn more about That Rogue Romeo and his music, visit his official website. He can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

Sam Sparro • Hang On 2 Your Love (feat Durand Bernarr)

Sam Sparro photo Sam_Sparro2_zpsa7374c0b.jpg

Handsome and talented, I don't know if I can ever get enough of Sam Sparro. This week, Sparro released "Hang On 2 Your Love (feat Durand Bernarr)", the lead single from his upcoming EP, 'Quantum Physical Vol. 1'. Sparro brings his soulful vocals to the dance track, making choices both bold and subtle to make the record one you are sure to enjoy. Sam's songs have such an easy feel, I quickly am reminded why I am in awe of the man. His vocals are sexy and strong, a earns a well-deserved spot in my summer 2013 playlist! See if "Hang On 2 Your Love (feat Durand Bernarr)" does the same for you!

I loved this song from the start, the first few bars drawing me in. I had to buy it! You can find "Hang On 2 Your Love" on iTunes and Amazon. For more about Sam and his coming and going, visit his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter and 'like' him on Facebook.

Pride Celebration • Five Decades of Great Dance Music

Sylvester photo Sylvester_zps49363bbe.jpg Pride Musical Notes photo GayNotes_zpse6bafcf1.jpg
Soft Cell photo SoftCell_zpsf2a79c5f.jpg Jimmy Somerville photo jimmy-somerville_zps3a973965.jpg

Clockwise: Sylvester, Musical notes, Jimmy Somerville, Jason Walker, Sir Ari Gold, and Soft Cell.

As we are coming into the final weekend of Gay Pride Month, I thought I would go out with a mini-celebration or retrospective, how ever you'd like to look at it. I am looking to a few out and proud gay artists who managed to make music that was amazing and exhilarating. These are artists that were an inspiration then, and still inspire me whenever I hear their music. I will start with the brilliant and amazing Sylvester. At a time when America was not as accepting of gays and lesbians, this wonderful black man with a big voice started performing, often taking on an androgynous appearance, and using his strong falsetto to deliver songs like "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)", and make them a hit. That particular song made it to the Top 40 in 1978, and became Sylvester's second #1 Dance Hit. Celebrate the season with the great Sylvester singing "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)".

Now Sylvester might have owned the 1970s, but the 1980s were really the property of several acts from the UK, many part of the New Wave invasion that brought together parts of Punk, Rock, and Pop, and a great freedom to carve out your own style. Bands like Bronski Beat, Erasure and Culture Club never shied away from standing out, not willing to fall into the preconceived sexual roles. Another of those bands was Soft Cell. The duo were David Ball and Marc Almond, who rich voice gave such depth to every song he sang. They are perhaps best known for their 1981 hit, "Tainted Love". The song was written by Ed Cobb and first recorded by American singer Gloria Jones in 1965. The record didn't chart, but became popular a decade later in British clubs. Soft Cell eventually decided to record it themselves, only to put a new spin on the production. Well, they certainly did, and it became a world-wide hit for them. Check out the music video for Soft Cell's cover of "Tainted Love".

In the early 1980s, he was with the Bronski Beat. Later, he became a part of The Communards, another band who never shied away from their sexuality, and at times poked fun of the conventional thoughts of it. By the time the 1990s rolled around, Jimmy Somerville had launched a solo career, using his distinctive voice and style to make music I found irresistible. I still listen to whatever he puts out, and love it. But in 1995, he released the beautiful album 'Dare To Love', the second in his solo career. It included the song "Heartbeat", co-written by the Glaswegian himself. I loved it then, and still love it today. Enjoy "Heartbeat".

The new millennium saw even more LGBT artists making music that was perfect for the clubs. There was a new movement with Dance/Pop artists tarting to release their own music, allowing the different cities to have their own wonderful sound. New York had several really talented artists in the forefront, with SIRPAUL making some great music, as well as Jason Walker, who was working with renown DJ Junior Vasquez. The time also saw the rise of a talented New Yorker by the name of Ari Gold, writing and producing his own brand of ElectroPop that often seemed ready to the clubs. In 2004, he released his second album, the wonderful 'Space Under Sun'. It wasn't long before "Love Will Take Over" was playing everywhere, from radio to the clubs. The music proved a great follow-up to his self-titled debut, and the great song "Wave of You", the song that first stole my heart. And I continue to love his music, proving some artists remain relevant, and can, in fact, get better with age. Check out the music video for "Love Will Take Over".

And, finally, I want to pick something very current, showing that LGBT artists are still going strong. Of course, I have to admit that other than the late Sylvester, all these artists are still making music. SIRPAUL is making great music, and I featured two singles just this morning. But I decided to feature C-Rod featuring Jason Walker and the single "Beat Don't Stop", a song that continues to be near the top of the Dance charts, months after it was released. The song is infectious, and after listening, stays in my head and keeps me smiling. So have fun watching the music video for "Beat Don't Stop", the song by C-Rod and featuring Jason Walker.

All this music is available where ever music is sold, including iTunes and Amazon. The songs are great reminders of the time, but they are also just fantastic performances that I still like listening to now. So over the last few days of Gay Pride Month, enjoy these gay artists, and think about supporting them and others, to ensure their music continues to be made.

Singer/songwriter/performer Colton Ford has released a new video for his latest single, "Let Me Live Again". The Black & White video seems to be an homage to the work of Tom of Finland, best known for his highly stylized art featuring gay men for much of the latter half of the 20th Century. In fact, I bet he would find inspiration in Colton Ford, if Tom were still alive. The dance track has a great feel to it, the urgent drive of the percussion, while Ford's vocals are controlled and light as air, allowing the single to elevate. And of course, anytime you have Colton's body on display, that has to be a good time. So enjoy the music video for "Let Me Live Again".

You can find "Let Me Live Again" on iTunes and Amazon. For more about Colton Ford, visit his official website. You can also 'like' him on Facebook or 'follow' him on Twitter.

Earth, Wind & Fire • Live On Stage

Earth Wind & Fire photo EarthWindandFire1970_zps097ed8f1.jpg

I thought it would be great to kick off the weekend with some live music from the immortal funk band, Earth, Wind & Fire. These men were incredible live, making tight harmonies some artists on the charts right now couldn't hit will all the autotune a producer could afford. This was from the mid to late 1970s. This clip features five great songs, all performed live and damn near perfectly! In the following clip, you will hear the 1973 single "Keep Your Head to the Sky", written by Maurice White; the 1974 single "Devotion", by Phillip Bailey and Maurice White; the 1975 single "Reasons", written by Phillip Bailey, Charles Stepney, and Maurice White; "That's the Way of the World", written by Charles Stepney, Maurice White, and Verdine White; and "Sing a Song", written by Maurice White and Al McKay. Crank the volume and be ready for fullscreen viewing!

You can find several of these song on 'Earth, Wind & Fire: Greatest Hits', available on iTunes and Amazon. To learn more about Earth, Wind & Fire, visit their official website. You can also "like" them on Facebook, and "follow" them on Twitter.

Post-Sandy Dance Party

The Young Profesionals B.Slade
Simulover Chris Salvatore
Clockwise: The Young Professionals; B.Slade; Chris Salvatore; and Simulover.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I seem to have a bit of fatigue, as if I was hit by the high winds and rain myself. So I am trying to catch up with myself, and get back to the blog after a couple of days off. I was at a loss as to what to post, feeling little inspiration. I looked around at dance music, still uninspired. I even turned on the cable music station, thinking if all else fails, I would just pick the first four songs and post them. As I was doing that, I decided this was not the answer. I would not find inspiration in random songs. So I decided to pick out four songs by out artists I love to listen to, and suddenly it all fell together. It certainly didn't hurt I began with a great track from B.Slade™ off his album Deep Purple. Enjoy as the so very gifted B.Slade as he sings "Phony Pony."

For more about B.Slade, visit his official website. I have been a fan of SIRPAUL and his amazing music for some time, and when he started working with DJ Alex Lauterstein, I was intrigued. The pairing was called Simulover, and their love of Electronica brought them together to make some sexy, sultry sounds. Listen to one of the songs off the 2011 debut, "Unbroken."

For more about Simulover, visit his official website. And speaking of duos, I have loved the music of Ivri Lider sing the first time I heard it in a movie soundtrack, and was thrilled when I heard he was making some Electronica/Dance music with a new musical partner, Yonathan Goldshtein. The calleed the group The Young Professionals, often abbreviating to TYP. In 2011, they released the album '9:00 To 17:00 To Whenever,' and I bought it the moment it became available. So enjoy the song "With Me" off that debut.

For more about The Young Professionals, visit his official website. And, finally, I will bring in a very handsome singer/songwriter who might be perhaps best known for his acting in the popular 'Eating Out' series, as well as others. I actually first came to know his as a singer/songwriter, enjoying his music. I love 'The Sound of This Beat,' and Salvatore's take on the George Michael song "I Want Your Sex."

For more about Chris Salvatore, visit his official website. Have a great Friday, and an even better weekend.

Dancing With Kristine W

Kristine W

When I was trying to figure out what I was going to post for this wonderful Friday, I thought back to a couple of discussions I had some Dance artists who swore Kristine W was one of the best Dance artists ever, definitely an artist on top of their game. From 1994 until this year, she had 16 songs go to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and another 2 n the Top 5. That is an incredible streak for Kristine Weitz, born in Washington state. In fact, in 1981 she was named Miss Washington State, and won college scholarships in the 1982 Miss America pageant.

Kristine W

By the late 1980s she was working in Las Vegas with her band, Kristine W and the Sting. They were playing the top clubs and casinos, gaining fans. It was there she was 'discovered', and brought into the studio. By 1994 Kristine had released her second single, and her first #1, "Feel What You Want".

By 1997, she was working on her fourth single, and her third #1 song, "Land of the Living". That is an envious streak, but just the start of something amazing. By this time, the best in the country, DJs like Junior Vasquez, Rollo, and Sister Bliss were offering up their own remixes of her music, getting more and more play in the clubs. In fact, they were beginning to remix songs not officially released, distributing them to select DJs, giving her regional hits that were represented in the national charts. Enjoy "Land of the Living".

In 2000, Kristine released "Stronger", written by Kristine, Jud J. Friedman and Allan Rich. The song appeared on an album of the same name. Once again, it topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, keeping her reputation in place.

"Fly Again"was written by Kristine and Jesse Houk, the title cut off the 2003 album of the same name. Once again it topped the Hot Dance Club Songs chart, her seventh #1 song in a row.

To learn more about Kristine W, visit her official website. You can purchase a couple of these songs on 'New & Number Ones', available on iTunes and Amazon.

Ivri Lider • Boys Just Wanna Have Fun

Ivri Lider Boys Just Wanna Have Fun

Since I mentioned my new British boyfriend on Wednesday, I was of course reminded me of my Israeli boyfriend, the gorgeous and talented Ivri Lider. I have been a huge fan of Ivri since I first heard his brilliant theme song to 'Yossi & Jagger', a wonderful movie by Israeli director Eytan Fox. It wasn't until I checked out his music that I realized Ivri was such a hot man, and due to be a future husband. And he happens to be the biggest male star in Israel for the last decade or so. And he is also an out and proud gay man. What's not to love?

IvriLider

Well, Ivri has made a bunch of music over the years, including some fun covers. One was a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", only his was, of course, "Boys Just Wanna Have Fun". There is certainly that certain something added by Ivri, and in the video below, there is a fun group known as the Bee-Boy Dancer Crew, shaking their groove thing who made this video. Enjoy.

Get ready to start your weekend!

Dancing this Fine October Weekend!

Aiden Leslie Naommon
Angelo Sean Ensign
Clockwise: Aiden Leslie; Naommon; Sean Ensign; and Angelo.

It is Friday, and time to get the party started! Don't you agree? I hope you do, because I am ready to shake my groove thing with some great out and proud musicians I really hope you enjoy them as much as I do. You might have noticed in the pictures above, these boys are just gorgeous, but don't let their great looks miss the fact they are also talented! I will lead off one of a couple of newcomers to the blog, Aiden Leslie. He brings us "Diamond Dreams", with lyrics written by him, describing his drive and goals when he was fresh out of high school and moving to New York City to pursue his dreams in music. Enjoy the music video from Aiden Leslie for "Diamond Dreams".

You can purchase the single "Diamond Dreams" from iTunes and Amazon. For more about Aiden, visit his official website.

Our next artist is a French-born singer currently making his home in London. Naommon has a great voice that he loves to use to tackle many different genres, utilizing his influences that are as varied as can be. "Shake To The Earthquake" combines his love for great Pop with his time spent dancing in the clubs to make for a wonderful song.

You can find the single "Shake To The Earthquake" on 'Love Is Struggling', which can be purchased from iTunes and Amazon. For more about Naommon, visit his official website.

I make no bones about the fact I am a big fan of New York-based Angelo, who has been spending some time traveling to the UK and Europe in support of his latest release, 'Narcissus Drowned'. I hope you listen to one of the tracks off the album, "Go'head! (Luv & Jeeve Remix)".

"Go 'Head" is a track off the album 'Narcissus Drowned' and you can purchase it from iTunes and Amazon. To learn more about Angelo visit his official website.

With the final entry in tonight's post, I will offer you one of the favorite songs of my friend, Ricky Morgan. He is the first one to get me turned on to the music of Sean Ensign, and it was the single "Boyfriend" that did it! It is saucy and smart, two things I love in music.

You can find "Boyfriend" as part of 'Boyfriend: The Remixes' and can purchase it from iTunes and Amazon. To learn more about Sean Ensign visit his official website. Have a great weekend!

My Dance Party

Gavin-Creel-2 Christopher Dallman Angelo
Kris Searle SIRPAUL featuring Candy Apple Blue
Clockwise: Gavin Creel; Christopher Dallman; Angelo; SIRPAUL featuring Candy Apple Blue; and Kris Searle.

Well, since I figured out I wasn't going to Philadelphia to see Jay Brannan, I decided to make up a post that was music I might very well be dancing to at home tonight. I would of course include artists seen here on the blog before, that are in regular rotation on my playlists. And as you can see from the pictures above, they are all delicious eye-candy, just waiting to be nibbled on. But mostly, they are amazing artists I also seem to return to when I want to be moved. And they are all independent musicians, working to not only make great music, but trying to promote it on their own. I will start with a talented Broadway veteran whose most recent album, Get Out, remains a favorite of mine. That would include a great song that immediately grabbed my attention, "Whitney Houston".

You can purchase Gavin's Get Out album on iTunes and Amazon. Christopher Dallman writes such personal and honest songs, I can always find a song that will match a mood I am in. In fact, I can usually find several. But I wasn't expecting a dance track, but when DJ Radboy got hold of Chris' marriage equality single "Anthem", I found a great one. So enjoy "Anthem", the Radboy Radio Edit.

You can find a FREE Download Radboy's remix of Christopher Dallman's "Anthem" SoundCloud. Now, Angelo is positively edible in every one of his pictures, but don't let that fool you. His music combines honesty and pain, often wrapped in a jacket ready to go to the club. I absolutely love his latest album, Narcissus Drowned. There is plenty of great music on it, including a bonus track, "Time Bomb" (RAC Remix).

You can purchase Angelo's Narcissus Drowned album on iTunes and Amazon. Somewhere in a musical laboratory, you will find a beaker that combines the chemicals for Electronica and the ones for great Pop music, and you will find a label that simply says SIRPAUL. I've been a fan for some time, and have been thrilled to see constant evolution in his music, always sounding not only current, but just ahead of Pop. I loved the album Music & Me, and one of the singles off the album was "Mistaken", This is one of the wonderful remixes, featuring the talented Candy Apple Blue. Together, they make some incredible music.

You can purchase SIRPAUL's "Mistaken" remix featuring the talents of Candy Apple Blue on iTunes and Amazon. Finally, I will listen to a song from a British transplant making a home for himself in Los Angeles. Kris Searle is making music that combines the UK aesthetic with a growing American one, making interesting tunes. One of those is "Falling For Your Light", a single that really grabbed me, and continues to do so.

You can purchase Kris Searle's single "Falling For Your Light" on iTunes and Amazon. These are some incredible talents, all who would be grateful for your support by purchasing their music. If you do, the joy when you hit play on your iPod will quadruple the return on the investment.

Israel's Uriel Yekutiel and Eliad Cohen

Picture 16
Picture 21 Picture 18

I have seen Uriel Yekutiel before, part of a couple of videos from The Young Professionals, Ivri Lider's fantastic new band. Uriel list his profession as entertainer, including as both an dancer and choreographer. Ivri, TYP and Uriel are all based in Israel. In fact, so is Eliad Cohen, a former member of the Israeli military who lists his talents as producer, actor, model, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Gay-ville, an LGBT-oriented vacation service. Eliad is also smoking hot, and totally crushable. It seems Eliad hosts a weekly party at the Arisa club in Tel Aviv, and will at times include Uriel in the shows. The parties feature Middle Eastern music. Check out this promotional video.

Now I bet that woke your ass up. It does make me crave some Middle Eastern to nibble on or lick...
