Friday Mix-Up

It is Friday, the first official day of the weekend, so I thought I would post some fun remixes of great songs by artists I truly respect. A couple of these picks are surprising nuggets, while others are bound to get you shakin' your booty, which is never a bad thing. I picked these four songs and artists to show what a wonderful array of music is being made by gay men. All four songs are very different, and the same could be said about the artists. I will begin with one of those 'surprises', Casey Stratton. While it might be unexpected from people who are more used to Casey's more emotive/expressive music, I will admit I have a collection of remixes, which kinda inspired this post. I am absolutely crazy for Casey's "Opaline (Clandestine Mix)", which appears on his 'Altered States: Remixes Volume One' album.

Next up, I decided to go with Los Angeles-based B.Slade with a great track from his 'Deep Purple' album. I find there is something so subtle and sweet about "2 GET 2 (Hookah Lounge Mix)", yet at the same time it has a sexy feel, too. The song can be found on the 2012 album, 'Deep Purple', which quickly became a favorite of mine.

Singer/songwriter came to the attention of many when he released his first music video, "End of the World", in 2009. The song is beautiful and expansive, part Chamber music, and part Pop Icon. The song was featured on the album 'Hide Nothing', an enchanting collection. Last year, he released 'Constant Crows', a much more personal, intimate collection. But he also worked on a couple of song with Saul Ruiz, both updates of some great classic songs. One of those was the Fleetwood Mac song "Dreams", written by Stevie Nicks. Ruiz gave it a new feel with the mix, and used the strength of Alber's voice perfectly. Enjoy listening to Saul Ruiz featuring Matt Alber on "Dreams (Original Mix)".

One of the songs featured on the album was released in 2011 as a single, with several remixes available. There is so much strength and power on Angelo's "Hands Down (Famuel Remix)", I found it irresistible. It gets me up and on my feet every time I hit play, smiling and moving in the Studio 54 in my head.

Post-Sandy Dance Party

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I seem to have a bit of fatigue, as if I was hit by the high winds and rain myself. So I am trying to catch up with myself, and get back to the blog after a couple of days off. I was at a loss as to what to post, feeling little inspiration. I looked around at dance music, still uninspired. I even turned on the cable music station, thinking if all else fails, I would just pick the first four songs and post them. As I was doing that, I decided this was not the answer. I would not find inspiration in random songs. So I decided to pick out four songs by out artists I love to listen to, and suddenly it all fell together. It certainly didn't hurt I began with a great track from B.Slade™ off his album Deep Purple. Enjoy as the so very gifted B.Slade as he sings "Phony Pony."

The pairing was called Simulover, and their love of Electronica brought them together to make some sexy, sultry sounds. Listen to one of the songs off the 2011 debut, "Unbroken."

And speaking of duos, I have loved the music of Ivri Lider sing the first time I heard it in a movie soundtrack, and was thrilled when I heard he was making some Electronica/Dance music with a new musical partner, Yonathan Goldshtein. The calleed the group The Young Professionals, often abbreviating to TYP. In 2011, they released the album '9:00 To 17:00 To Whenever,' and I bought it the moment it became available. So enjoy the song "With Me" off that debut.

The fast-paced video with the rich and colorful imagery are perfect for the song, so full of joy. Tyler Conti • No More Room Music Video

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about a handsome young man named Tyler Conti, singing a cover of the great song, "I Will Always Love You". I had no idea he was so close to a new release of original material, but am happy to report that is the case. Conti makes his Suxxess Records debut with this a fantastic single "No More Room". The song was written, produced, directed, and edited by B.Slade™, another fantastic artist often featured on the blog. The song is fantastic, but I wouldn't expect less from the combined talents of B.Slade and Conti. Check out the official music video.

B.Slade™ • Deep Purple • Available Now

The amazing B.Slade™ has released more music available, and Deep Purple is another example of his outstanding work, offering up the very best of R&B and Hip-Hop seasoned with just the right amount of sauciness. The out and proud musician offers this 14-track album that delivers over an hour of music, starting with "Mama Jaila's Intro." The music had me ready to move, first while in my chair. It wasn't long before I was out of the chair, dancing around the room. Check out the second cut off Deep Purple, "PHONy PONy," featuring Jaila Simms, Trevon James & DDM.



The music is just amazing, sporting a delicious sheen, just waiting for me to lick it like frothy whipped cream. It was a perfect listen over the holiday weekend, from the smoothness of "TwerK" to the yumminess of the title cut, which recalled the best of Janet Jackson's musical spirit. Give a listen to the sixth cut off Deep Purple, "2 Get 2."



I swear that B.Slade sows seeds of great music to make such strong new music. Listening to the album is like planning an exquisite meal for someone you love. With each cut, you feel it can't top what you have already heard, but quickly you feel the salivary glands kicking in, and you just want to take in some more. I find myself standing up, my hips moving and my fingers running through the hair. I open my eyes to discover I've been moving around the room, turned around from where I started. Take "Never Love This Way," another great cut. It sends me out once again, ready to dance with the rest of the world.



Yeah, that one recalled some of the greatest pop ballads of the 80s, without ever feeling dated or nostalgic. Deep Purple is filled with just joy, such heart, you can help but be touched by it, from beginning to end. B.Slade is in top form, making amazing music I find impossible to resist. Tributes • Chris • Sacha • Anthony • B.Slade™

As the week progressed, we began to see a few tributes to the music of Whitney Houston. Now, since it has been long enough to take a look at a few brave souls who have not only decided to lift their voices to honor Whitney Houston, but they have managed to do it exceedingly well. Now, my criteria for this was for it to be an artist I have covered on the blog before, and doing the song justice. I would say that the four that are below not only do the song justice, they are doing it right. I will start with an artist I have started to really just love. I first learned about B.Slade™ from dear Wonder Man, and when I looked up his music, I was over the moon. So when I saw and heard his cover of The Greatest Love Of All, I was just moved. This cover was recorded a year ago, but reposted to honor the passing of singing great Houston.

When I found this cover by Sacha Sacket, I was doubly excited. Not only was it a wonderful artist covering good music, he he also mentioned he was back in the studio, meaning a new album would be coming soon. I love Sacha Sacket, and not just because he is so damned hot. When I am listening to his musicthat is all I hear, and all I want to hear. What as he sings How Will I Know live.

I am not sure what I can say about Chris Cornell that won't get me arrested. The man is outrageously talented, and droolingly sexy. The music, whether it be his stuff with Soundgarden, Audiosalve, or his solo stuff is all magnificent and memorable. His voice has so much grit, it adds a bit of extra weight to each song. And when it comes time to show the range, there is always that fear it won't be there. Yet it is, beautifully. Listen as he gives a bravura performance of I Will Always Love You, the Dolly Parton song brought to iconic levels by Whitney.

Well, like the first clip, Anthony Callea's song wasn't recorded this week, but instead was sung a couple of years ago, but can be given a new look now that Houston has passed on. Callea sings When You Believe, the song by Stephen Schwartz from the animated film Prince of Egypt. The song was originally sung by Houston and Mariah Carey. As he always does, Anthony delivers a spectacular performance, well worth hearing. This was recorded even before he opened for Houston on the Australian leg of her 2010 World Tour.

B.Slade™ • Stealth Album Released

The oh-so-talented B.Slade™ released a new album on Christmas Day, and somehow or another I managed to miss it. Well, I have it now, and couldn't wait to share it with you. I don't know how B.Slade does it, but he puts out amazing music, with great depth and range, and it was not his only release in 2012. The music is fantastic, running the gamut from retro-R&B to something new and clean, ready to take on the world. From the title track, which certainly tips a hat to the King of Pop and that era of music, but also has a sound that escapes time, feeling fresh and now.



The twelve-song offering has a little something for all R&B lovers, and a whole lot to offer those who love music. There is the haunting and beautiful December, the last track of the album.



The entire album is, in fact, a joyous journey. You can feel the love as you listen, warming you to the core. You can listen to other tracks on the widget below.

Great Music From 2011

As I continue to look back on the great music released in 2011, I can't help but give a listen to Derek Nicoletto's amazing Kind Ghosts. As an album, it explored Derek as a solo artists, giving some great pop, a little rock and a lot of Derek. The lead single was also the title track, Kind Ghosts.

And with his first new release since 2007, handsome Darren Hayes was back on the scene with Secret Codes & Battleships, a collection that proved his still making great Pop music after a hiatus. You could also get the latest release from the magnificent voice of Jason Walker. I have to admit I am relatively knew on the B.Slade™ train, after he was pointed out to me by Wonder Man and Nhojj. And I am grateful to both, as I immediately fell in love this B.Slade's inventive sound on the album Diesel. I have to admit I went a bit crazy, also purchasing A Brilliant Catastrophe (Alpha) and A Brilliant Catastrophe (Beta). B.Slade's voice is also amazing, as you can hear ion the title track, Diesel.

B.Slade™ • Sequel Video

I just finished watching the official video for Sequel, from latest album by the incredible B.Slade™. Diesel is a fantastic Primer for R&B music, from start to finish. The album is teeming with groove lines, seemingly inspired by some of the greats of the genre, channeling decades of music into a full collection of 18 songs. The release of this video brings forth an amazing song, one of my favorites from Diesel. Sultry, suggestive, and smouldering, B. Slade brings the heat and the heart like he was channeling the great Marvin Gaye, preaching to an aroused choir.



Good Lord, after watching that, I felt like I needed a cigarette, or maybe a nap, or perhaps a shower... It is an amazing combination of the sensual and the sexual, romance with a leer. It is truly a wonderful and amazingly balanced performance.

B.Slade™ Releases DIESEL Today

B. Slade releases his latest album, DIESEL, today. About three weeks ago, I told you about the album's availability for pre-order here. I don't know about anyone else, but I placed an order then. So I was quite pleased to hear I could get my download, and give it a listen. Man, is it good - has the depth and beauty of great old R&B classics, but doing so in a way that is not dated or sounding old. It's just great music. In that earlier post, I gave you a chance to listen to two songs. Here is another, this one called I'm Done, B.Slade™, featuring Yummy Bingham.

The Music of B.Slade™

On July 19, B.Slade™ will release his new album, Diesel. Formerly known by the moniker Tonex [or TON3X], B. Slade is a musical powerhouse, a virtual tour-de-force who, on top of his own career, wrote, developed and produced for many other artists in the Gospel and secular world. He won many awards for his work, as well as the respect of many. And recently, he came out, to much less fanfare than others. That, however, did not slow him down, and he has been creating music that is just amazing to me. And last night I placed my Pre-Order for his Diesel, and was able to download 2 tracks right away.
