I have been enchanted with the music made by the gorgeous siblings from Pittsburgh, known as Candy Apple Blue. I was first introduced to them by SIRPAUL, and they have remained a steady feature of my playlists. Carly and Hoyt Emerick make catchy Electropop songs I find impossible to resist. Recently, they have recorded with singer Nick Bramlett, and it sounds like a collaboration that is great for everyone. Together, they released a new music video for the song "Detonator", and I couldn't be happier. Bold and colorful visuals compliment the song, as well as the handsome artists performing the song. Ryan Amador with Jo Lampert & Gyasi Ross • Spectrum

Ryan Amador first came to my attention with his startling video for his single, "Define Me". Ryan teamed up with another out artists, vocalist Jo Lampert, to deliver a strong statement with the touching song and a sobering music video. Amador once again joined forces with Lampert to bring another statement to life with the song, "Spectrum". The song is the second single off the EP '4S'. Ryan and Jo are joined by Gyasi Ross, an acoustic Hip-Hop artist who delivers a soulful rap. "Spectrum" discusses the range of sexuality found in the world today, which is also reflected in the couples featured in the video. "Spectrum" offers the topic a real but lighthearted treatment, offers some insight as well as a chance to dance while you listen. Valentine 2015 • Spencer Day • Never My Love

I know Valentine's weekend is coming to a close, but I just couldn't stop. But I do feel as though this might be a good place to stop it. Because Spencer Day is a lot of things, and a finisher might be one of them. For the moment I first heard him singing, I was finished. I was instantly a fan, and will be for as long as he makes music. That first song was "Till You Come to Me", off the album 'Vagabond'. Well, I have purchased a few more since then, and I only get more excited with each one. The latest, 'Daybreak', is a delicious combination of original songs and covers of great records from the 1960s, with just the right amount of Spencer in each one. "Never My Love" was written by American brother Donald and Richard Addrisi, and was best known from as a hit for The Association in 1967. This is the classic song as sung by Spencer Day.

Valentine 2015 • Brendan Maclean • Only Boyfriend

It seems I am not the only one celebrating the Valentine holiday. Aussie cutie Brendan Maclean wrote this song "Because no one ever writes decent Valentines for homos." And he may have a point. But then again, I don't care why he writes some of his songs, only that he keeps doing it. For "Only Boyfriend", Brendan collaborated with Lance Horne, and not just in the writing of the song. In his notes, Brendan explains that Lance played "...every bloody instrument." Well, "Except Cello: Andrew Nielson, And the dodgy drums: Brendan Maclean." When I found out there was new music coming from Carly and Hoyt Emerick, better known as Candy Apple Blue. The news alone brought a smile to my face, as I am a big fan of their music. Not only are the siblings gorgeous (I mean, look at that picture above!), they are also very talented, creating Electronica I love to play. I discovered them through my buddy SIRPAUL, and since then, I've been hooked.

Recently, Carly and Hoyt have been working with vocalist Nick Bramlett, and from the sound of the first single, it is a collaboration made in heaven. Nick's voice is bold and clear, with an earthy quality that gives him a sexy edge. Carly joins him on the backing vocals, and they blend well. Hoyt and Carly brought the production together, as the track was written, arranged, produced, engineered and mixed by Candy Apple Blue. And there is a seriously cool guitar solo by Kris kHz. Spencer Day • I Only Have Eyes For You

Just over a year ago, I was fortunate enough to see the amazing Spencer Day performing live at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, PA. I really enjoy the space, for it has a wonderfully intimate feel, and I have been able to take some good pictures of performers there through the years. Above, you can see a few of the pictures I took of the handsome crooner, who kept my rapt attention for the entire performance. He not only had a strong set list, he was also game for taking requests from the audience. One of the requests was "I Only Have Eyes For You", a popular love song written in 1934 by composer Harry Warren and lyricist Al Dubin. It debuted in the film 'Dames', starring Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler. However, the best known version might have been the 1959 single by The Flamingos, which made it to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. But this is Spencer Day with "I Only Have Eyes For You".

You know, one of my favorite versions of this song might just be this one. While Spencer has yet to record the classic song, I pretty much love almost everything that Spencer sings. Brett Gleason • I Am Not

The first song I heard by rocker Brett Gleason was "I Am Not", and I have been hooked on his music since. The Brooklyn-based songwriter had carved out a sound, a style, that was part Progressive Rock, part Alternative, both served with a big helping of heart and soul. All of the songs on his first EP, 'The Dissonance', had such a a strong core, I was quite excited when I head Brett was going back in the studio to rerecord those songs, as well as those on his second EP, 'The Thawing'.

I was also pleased to see Brett reworked his music video for "I Am Not" with the new new version off his self-titled full-length album. There is an added depth to the song, and it works so very well with the horror theme of the video. There is a strong inner dialog with much of Brett's work, and this video captures that so very well. It still remains a special song for me, and not just because it was my 'first'. There is something about the song I find intriguing, no matter how many times I hear it. Eric Himan • "Everything to You" Music Video

I've been a fan of Eric Himan since the first time I found his music on the internet, and all it takes is hitting the play button for any of his albums on my iPod, or for any of his music videos on YouTube, to remind me why. Speaking of which, he has a brand new music video out, and my first thought when watching is "how the hell does he keep getting better looking with each passing year?" Once that is out of the way, I am reminded why I love his music so damn much - it is amazing.

The new music video features the fifth track of the latest release, 'Gracefully'. "Everything to You" is a beautiful love song, and it makes my cold heart melt just a little bit more with every listen. The video is so much fun, with Eric assuming many different professions, and doing so with style. It captures the light and bouncy spirit of the song, and allows me to smile more than I usually would during the course of my day. It also allows us to see a bit of the charm I see whenever I go see him performing live, which I do when I can! K Anderson • F**k Around

Since the first time I heard the opening bars of "This Changes Everything", I have been at the mercy of British singer/songwriter K. Anderson. Smart, sexy, fun, and intriguing are just a few of the words I could use to describe his music, but I could also throw in ever-changing. What started out as Rocky Blues on "This Changes Everything", was followed by the Folky charm of "Bruise Like A Peach", and the quirky confessional of "14-Year-Old Me". Well, you get the idea. But now, he had a new music video out, and it is something unlike the others, but keeps my attention nonetheless.

In his latest single, K. offers a view of the freedoms of youth, when love and sex were offered freely and generously. Stylistically, the song is part Arlo Guthrie, and part Macklemore. Somehow, Anderson has combined the tradition of Folk storytelling with the Hip-Hop vibe more familiar to the current generation of music lovers to make a yummy treat with "Fuck Around". Yes, the theme might be more adult in message, and perhaps not safe for viewing/hearing in the office or around children, but I know it works damn well for me. In retrospective, when you are young, the trajectory of love and sex were not always running in parallel, even if, at times, they intersected. Sometimes, we are just left with memories, photographs, and some lube. This is K. Anderson with "Fuck Around".

In the old days, I would say this single included a B-side, although now it is seen as another track on the EP. In this case, that honor goes to "Sunburnt Bodies", a delicious song that combines Pop with the music of spaghetti Western movies, sounding both mysterious and desolate. There is something quite sexy about the song, be it the reflective nature of the lyrics, or the sexy delivery of them. Brett Gleason • Full-Length Debut

What an exciting time today. You can now purchase 'Brett Gleason' by Mr. Gleason, the rockin' New Yorker. I am truly excited to share it with you, for I will admit I've had it for a bit. I had so much faith in Brett, I was a part of his Kickstarter crowdfunding project, and I am happy to tell you my investment paid off. You see, not only is Brett a handsome young man, he is also a talented musician with something to say. I have enjoyed his EPs, and I have also been impressed by his articles on Huffington Post. There is much to admire about this man.

'Brett Gleason' a combination of Brett's two EPs, 2010's 'Dissonance' and 2012's 'The Thawing'. For both those collections, Brett recorded the songs he wrote, playing all instruments and laying down the songs in his home studio, much like demo tracks. With the eponymous album, Brett has gone into a professional studio with a producer, giving the songs new life and new sounds. There is a new richness to the songs, as can be heard on the first track, "The Worst Part". Originally found on 'Dissonance', the new recording has added depth and strength. I talked about the first official music video shot for the album last week, and you can find the post for "Imposter" here. Earlier, Brett had released the music video for "Calculated" with the new track. You can listen to the track on this music video.

"Destruction" was the lead cut off 'The Thawing', and I enjoyed it greatly, But with the re-imagining, I think there is a stronger feel, and a greater crispness that serves the song well. I must admit, when I saw the music video for "I Am Not", I knew I was hooked on Brett's music for life. There is a wonderful honesty to it, as well as the exquisite musical progression that I found instantly irresistible. The new recording has a tightness that only intrigues me even more. "Polarity" was off 'The Thawing', but this new recording has a resonance that I just love. It really accentuates the experimental feel of the song. The seventh track is "Unruddered", and I feel the new version really pumps up the contrast. You can hear the new "Unruddered" for yourself.

Next up, we have the title track for the 2012's 'The Thawing'. The 2014 rendition is somehow both smoother and more discordant, and I don't know if I could love it more. "Futile and Fooled", the nineth track on the 10-song collection, was an instant favorite when I first heard it, and this recording only brings it closer to my heart. There is the improvisational feel of Frank Zappa, the smoothness of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and the psychedelia of King Crimson, all while sounding just like Brett Gleason. The album closes with "Idealize the Dead", which manages to be both dark and reverent, not an easy task. This one gives me a Moody Blues kind of feel, yet still fresh and new. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I love his music, for it allows my inner Rock geek to come out and play, and not to fear getting beat up by the straight boys. I can, and often do, crank it up on my iPod, and let Gleason transform my mindscape to places and textures I haven't imagined before. Brett Gleason • Imposter

Brett Gleason is less than a week away from releasing his first full-length album, and to get us all ready, he has shared with us the first music video shot for the occasion. It features the song "Imposter", and it offers a vision of Brett's work by director William Murray. The video is shot in a stark black & white, With that in mind, when the screen splits I cannot help but think of the age-old struggle of yin and yang, visiting the duality of our personalities, and how there are parts of us that are so much alike, while other parts could not be any more different. So check out the inner struggle of 'Being Brett Gleason', where I think Brett exposes a bit of himself, and if I am not mistaken, we get a sneak peak of his 'Id'...
