Aris • The New 'Pulse' of Kickstarter

Aris Ziagos photo ArisZiagos001_zps1caa48f4_1.jpg
Aris Ziagos (Photo by Michael Sibler)

A little bit less than a year ago, I received an email that invited me to check out the music of Aris, a Brooklyn-based Electro-Rocker. I can tell you I am glad I accepted that invite, and not just because Aris is a handsome devil. 'Twilight Revival', his second full-length release, rocked me out and I haven't bee the same since. Song after song made me hoping it would never end. There was something bright, hopeful, and at times very sexy about the music Aris makes. Check it out for yourself with the official music video for "Twilight", a dance track with just the right amount of edge.

Needless to say, I was thrilled when heard Aris had started working on a follow-up to 'Twilight Revival'. He is calling the new album 'Pulse', and I like the way that sounds. And a great part of that sound is his voice, which manages to have a deliver each song perfectly, with a rough-hewn edge that draws me in deeper. As he prepares to go into the studio for 'Pulse', Aris has started a crowdfunding page to give us all the chance to be on board early for this project. I'll let Aris speak about it in his own words.

I have decided to be a part of it, and think you should too. If you like the music, you must step up and all your money to do the speaking for you, and place your vote to hear more great music from amazing LGBT artists. Whether you are signing up for a digital download, or a private house concert by Aris, supporting the artist is how we get to be sure they can continue to make more! To be a part of the project, visit the official Kickstarter page. To learn more about Aris, visit his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter, and 'like' him on Facebook. 'Twilight Revival' is available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.

Gregory Douglass • New Album Coming

Gregory Douglass photo gregory-douglass_zps301c9565.jpg

When it comes to Gregory Douglass and his music, no one could say I've been in the closet at all. I am a big fan, just loving it all. So when I heard Gregory was starting a Kickstarter campaign to garner crowdfunding for a new album, I knew I would be on board. After all, I have loved every one of his releases to date, always eager to devour his music as soon as I can.

Gregory Douglass photo gregorydouglass_zpsf651aee9.jpg

I think I first came across his music in late 2005 or early 2006, when I came across the music video for "Upside Down", a track off the 2005 album, 'Stark'. There is a wonderful layered feel to the song, and Gregory's vocals add even greater depth to the song. It strikes me that even now, nine years after the release of the song, it still speaks to me, and sounds like something I'd want to hear on my radio. This is the official music video for "Upside Down" by Gregory Douglass'.

It might come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, but once I discovered his music, I needed to find and purchase Gregory's earlier music. And I was delighted yet embarrassed to discover there were several albums I had missed out on. Four, in fact. And there were more to come. I was particularly fond of the 2008 release, the moody 'Battler'. I had several favorites off that album, like "Broken Through", "Ordinary Man" featuring Grace Potter, and "Cathedrals". In fact, the latter was the first single, and had the official music video. It captures the textured and nuanced performance beautifully, and reminds me why I love the entire album. This is the official music video for "Cathedrals".

The following year, Gregory released a series of singles, all familiar songs written by other artists. This was his 'Cover Art' series, and it was a delightful discovery for me. Gregory took on Katy Perry, Adele, and Britney Spears, among others. One of those 'others' was Florence + the Machine, when he delivered a sensational performance on their huge hit, "Dog Days Are Over". His rendition of the powerful song was one of the last in this series, but certainly not the least. It delivered on the strength and vibrance the song needs. The music video also featured art done by Gregory's husband, artist Glenn Nadeau. This is Gregory with "Dog Days Are Over".

Gregory's most recent single was "The Great Wide", a song he put out in September of 2012. The song is a return to the introspective material I have come to expect from Gregory, with colors of light and dark punctuated by his exquisite vocals. I really love this song, and and pleased to share it with you. This is "The Great Wide" by Gregory Douglass.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, Gregory has started a Kickstarter campaign, and if you enjoyed the music here, I invite you to check it out. On the page, you will find a detailed business plan for the money raised over the next month, and how he would spend the money. As is the case with these things, there are many different levels of donations and rewards. It isn't really a donation, for it is more like an investment. You will receive a reward for your money, from a download of the new album before the public release, to autographed albums, to private online shows, and so much more. Visit the Kickstarter campaign to see what Gregory can offer you. To learn more about Gregory Douglass, visit his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter, and 'like' him on Facebook.

Matt Zarley • Still Time To Be Hopeful

Matt Zarley photo MattZarley_HopefulRomantic_zpsa37b1703.jpg

I just wanted to offer up a little reminder that you have until Wednesday afternoon, December 18, 2013, to be a part of the romance with Matt Zarley. Just one look at a picture of the handsome and talented actor and you can see how easy it would be to feel the romance, and be quite hopeful about it. 'Hopeful Romance' is the name of the upcoming project from Zarley, the new album he is looking to release in the coming year. And I am not the only one offering up reminders, for Matt has released a couple of pictures to remind people out it.

Matt Zarley photo MattZarley02_zpsd11e29c6.jpg Matt Zarley photo MattZarley01_zps96f56ee1.jpg
Matt Zarley photo MattZarley03_zpse95c9fff.jpg Matt Zarley photo MattZarley04_zpsddc01fae.jpg

And, by 'it', I mean his Kickstarter page, set up to help Matt raise some of the money needed to album, and the accompanying music videos. The videos are helpful in promoting the music, as anyone who reads this blog regularly must know. Another given is the fact that Zarley is a natural on camera, as he has been wonderful to watch in previous music videos, like one of my favorites, for the song "Trust Me".

"Trust Me" was written by Matt, Mark Picchiotti, and Joe Hurt. The track appears on his last album, 'Change Begins With Me'. The video was directed and edited by Benjamin Pollack, and choreographed by Benjamin Allen. And while Matt does sexy and flirty so very well, he also can deliver the goods when it comes to heartfelt and sweet. The song was written by Matt and Andy Zulla, and produced by Grammy winner, Zulla. This video was directed by Randal Kirk II. This is the music video for "Perfect", also off the latest album.

It didn't take shirtless shots to get me to be a part of Matt's campaign. It is all about the music, and damn, does he do that so well. I will admit I have the Matt Zarley discography in my collection, including his wonderful Christmas song, "One More Christmas With You". So I became a supporter, and would encourage you to do the same. With only a few days remaining to make a pledge, you can give as little or as much as you'd like. For $15, you can get a download of the album before it is available to the public.

If you would like to learn even more about Matt Zarley, visit his official website. You can also 'like' him on Facebook and 'follow' him on Twitter. But most importantly, you can find Matt Zarley on Kickstarter. Check him out, I'm sure he'd love to hear from you on any of the above!

Matt Zarley & Jeb Havens • Let Me Let Go

Jeb Havens & Matt Zarley photo Matt_Zarley-Jeb_HavensSM_zps5ccc9869.jpg
Jeb Havens, left, and Matt Zarley, right.

The other day, Singer/songwriter Matt Zarley posted a video of him singing a new song slated to appear on his 'Hopeful Romantic' album, with co-writer Jeb Havens. First I gotta say it, damn, there is a whole bunch of sexy going on in that video. I mean, damn, they are both handsome men. Then, I must point out that these men might be even more talented musically than they are gifted genetically, and that is saying something. But they give a trial run for "Let Me Go", a song still in the process of a musical birth. If this is any indication of what is coming on 'Hopeful Romantic', I an even more excited than before! This is Jeb and Matt singing "Let Me Go".

I loved it, and think the voices of these two men work incredibly well together. I have been a fan of both men individually, and when they team up, the excitement goes up exponentially. And this also gives me the opportunity to remind everyone that there are less than two weeks left to invest in your aural pleasure with a pledge for Matt Zarley's 'Hopeful Romantic' on Kickstarter. There are plenty of perks from which to choose, from a digital download to a role in three music videos to be shot in February of 2013. To find out more about the project, click on Kickstarter, or on the widget below. To see my original post on the subject, click here.

Matt Zarley is a Hopeful Romantic

Matt Zarley photo mattzarley3_zps875821ce.jpg

I've used many adjectives to describe Matt Zarley on this blog, from handsome to sexy to talented, and many more in between. But it seems as though I have a to amend my list to include 'hopeful romantic'. No, we haven't started dating... (Unless you want to, Matt, I am single... DM me!) I know because I watched a video Matt made for his new Kickstarter page, trying to raise funds to make a new album, entitled 'Hopeless Romantic'. This is Matt speaking from the heart about the new project.

Zarley comes with an impressive resume, having several hit Broadway shows on it, as well as winning two RightOutTV Music & Video Awards in 2012, for Best Song So Far and Best Video (Pro). The awards were for two different songs off his excellent album, 'Change Begins With Me'. The video award was for the music video for "W T F", a song off the album. The video was directed by Randall Kirk II, and features a cast of hot men. Just a slight word of warning, explicit language is used, so if you are in an office situation, turn the volume up!

While his bold and bright voice seems like a natural for upbeat songs with remixes made for the clubs, Zarley is a man of many colors. One of those colors is most definitely red, for he can sing so beautifully from the heart. The title cut from the album, "Change Begins With Me". The song, written by Zarley, Andy Zulla, and Chris Curtis, is a sensational song, and it is sung to perfection by Matt. This is the official music video for "Change Begins With Me".

And while we are getting to know Matt a bit better, I cannot miss his holiday single from 2012, "One More Christmas With You". You can also just click on the word Kickstarter! Matt co-wrote the tune with Shoshana Bean, whose album 'Superhero' was a big success, and she took over the role of Elphaba from Idina Menzel in Broadway's 'Wicked', and Aron Forbes of X-Factor fame. The song has the feel of a current Pop song, with a hint of the holiday on top to make it special. This is the lyric video for Matt Zarley's "One More Christmas With You".

If you are impressed by his music and that very special voice, you can click on the wigdet below, and invest in your aural future. You can give as little as $5, and get a digital download of the album before it is officially released, to, well, whatever you you'd like to give. There are plenty of options for giving, all with great and wild rewards on your investment. For $1,500, you can be listed as Associate Producer in the liner notes for the album. Other rewards include digital downloads of all of Zarley's music, karaoke versions of his music, and shout outs on Facebook and Twitter from the handsome man himself!

If you would like to learn even more about Matt Zarley, visit his official website. You can also 'like' him on Facebook and 'follow' him on Twitter. Matt's album, 'Change Begins With Me,' is available on iTunes and Amazon.

David Raleigh Kickstarts Work On A Definitive Album

I am proud to say I am a big fan of David Raleigh. Now, anyone who has paid attention to my posts would know that was not breaking news, for I've shared his music over the last couple of years. In fact, it's been a little more than two years since I traveled to New York City to see and hear David and his friend/producer Nathan Leigh Jones perform at Joe's Pub. And it has been almost three years since the singer was featured on the blog for the first time, with the music video for 'That's What Friends Are For', which also featured recent Tony-winner Billy Porter, Sir Ari Gold, and Emmy-nominated Alan Cumming, all interested in raising funds for the Ali Forney Center, a New York City shelter for homeless GLBT youth. There was so much talent on this project, and it introduced me to some talented I didn't really know before, always a great thing.

David Raleigh photo DavidRAleighbanner_zpsac723bbd.jpg

When David recently announced he would be heading back in the studio to work on a new album, I got excited. And when he announced the Kickstarter page, to begin a crowdfunding campaign, you better believe I wanted to be a part of it. You see, I am the type of guy who wants people making music I love to keep it going. And David certainly falls into that category. Now that I have made my pledge, I was able to bring my mind back to the blog, and had to chance to ask a few questions of the singer/songwriter, which I am thrilled to be sharing with you now. First, I wanted to know how David decided to take a swim in the Crowdfunding pool? "Am I swimming?! Yay," he exclaimed! "Well, I was in the studio with my producer, Nathan Leigh Jones, working on the tunes for this next album. We were sitting around shootin' the shit, and the question of how the album would be financed came up. (As unfortunately it always does) Nathan brought up the idea of using Kickstarter. I had heard of artists having success on various crowdfunding sites and had been intrigued by the idea, but had never actually thought of using one myself. But I looked into it and and researched a few of them. Kickstarter won me over. I loved the platform, it's 'reward' concept seemed fun and engaging. So I decided to jump in head first! I hope that a few of your readers will jump in the pool with me too! The water's warm!." I am always interested in how an artist sees and hears their own music, so I wanted to know how David would define his own music. "Funny that you ask that question," he answered with a smile. "Well, actually NOT funny, but you know what I mean. People always ask me that and I'm always hesitant to answer. I feel as a lot of artists do that my music isn't always easy to define. I like all different kinds of styles and want to be able to explore everything. It's a dilemma! Ha Ha! But when pressed, I like to say that my music is pretty much a cocktail (and who doesn't like COCKTAILS!) A generous pour of R&B mixed with a dash of Jazz, poured into a large, chilled pop/rock ice filled glass with a floater of Cabaret on top. YUM! Uh-huh, don't be shy, you know you want some!" His piano-driven songs are definitely a mix of styles, a wonderful melange of influences. You can see how well this works in this clip from last year of David singing "I Do", off his album 'Beginning Again'.

On his Kickstarter page, David talks about the budget for the album, and that would include costs to record in Australia. While I know David shares time between New York and Australia, I wanted to know why in Australia? "I split my recording between New York and Sydney," he remarked. "I've been working and collaborating with my producer for five years now and he happens to live and work between Sydney and New York, so with the bi-continental studio and engineering connections that he has, and the bi-continental musical connections we both have it just makes sense to create and record in both cities. I think it really gives the project a rare depth that we are lucky to experience as a part of our lives." So I dying to know if the different homes inspired him musically? "I would say not really, but I don't know if that would be entirely truthful," he admitted. "I LOVE NYC. It's in my blood and I feel it's who I am as a person. I'm inspired and juvenated by it, even when I'm not in it. The way I act, live, respond, create and perform is the embodiment of being a New Yorker. That being said, I feel as a writer, I'm at my most creative when I'm in Australia. Specifically Sydney. I LOVE that city as well. It's my "safe place" my haven. Every breath I breathe there is nourishing and inspiring. So even though I don't think the two countries, or cities inspire "different" music, I approach writing differently in each city because of the different forms of inspiration they give me."

David Raleigh photo DavidRaleighby__zpsd04d153a.jpg

Now, I was intrigued, and wanted to know if there is a difference between playing shows in New York City and in Sydney? "Well one fantastic benefit of touring as a musician from New York City is that everyone loves New York City. In theory if not in actuality," he said with a smile. "My experience is that Australians more so than most are hugely influenced creatively and artistically by America. Vegas, LA, and NYC being at the top of their "favorites" list. I love that my style, my music and my story are unique and a bit exotic to them and It brings me happiness to share my music with them, because I know that deep down inside it highlights the similarities and "oneness" that we all have with each other."

On his Kickstarter page, David talks about wanting to make a 'definitive' album. So I couldn't resist asking him what albums by other artists would he would call definitive? "Ha! Another good question, H," he said, once again offering that trademark smile. "Well, I'm attracted to and highly influenced by the pop/rock and singer/songwriters of the 70's so I would have to say MY biggest "definitive" album influences are Carole King's 'Tapestry', Stevie Wonder's 'Songs in the Key of Life', 'Hotel California' by The Eagles, The Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway album, and 'Escape' by Journey. There are tons more that moved me and some were even recorded in the 80's and 90's! Ha! Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' and Prince's 'Purple Rain', Maxwell's 'Urban Suite', Erykah Badu's 'Baduizm', and Pearl Jam's 'Ten' to name a few. I'm a sucker for emotional singers." Well, I can certainly identify with that!

David Raleigh photo DavidRaleigh_OneTogetherVideo_zps54a179a2.png

There are two weeks left for you to join in the crowdfunding campaign! You can find David on Kickstarter, which closes out on August 15, 2013. Once on the page, you can see the pledge levels, from $5 to $10,000. There are plenty of rewards for those pledges, from personalized thank yous, to the chance to hear the album before anyone else, and give it a name! For more about David Raleigh, visit his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter, and 'like' him on Facebook. I know he'd love to hear from you, and to say "hello". You can find his last album, 'Beginning Again', on iTunes and Amazon.

Derek Bishop • PreOder For New Album

Derek Bishop photo DerekBishop001_zps9a5dc7f6.jpg

I was first introduced to the music of Derek Bishop by another musician I respect greatly, Brett Gleason. When I get a recommendation like that, I certainly make sure I give it a good listen. I am glad to say that I wasn't disappointed, for Derek's "Resistance Is Beautiful' was a charming listen, one I fully enjoyed. And when he recently put out word that he was back working on a new album, and you could make a pre-order now, no one had to tell me twice. You see, I still had such great feelings about his first album, I was eager for more. In case you didn't get the chance to listen, here is a great music video for the wonderful song "Why Hold On" from his debut album.

The album is filled with songs that have strength not only in the influences, but in the strong essence behind them. Bishop writes his songs, and they are obviously all close to his heart. The album appealed to me right away, and has held me since. That would include a track I was particularly fond of, and the music video only made me love it more. "Take Him Away" featured a guest starring role for Brett Gleason, a piano man who plays through some high party drama, while Derek takes things into his own hands...

Now that I have had that walk down memory lane, you can see why I was so excited about hearing new music from Derek Bishop. In case you might be interested as well, I guess I should let Derek tell you more about it himself. Give a listen, and just be careful the handsome devil doesn't steal your heart.

To place your pre-order, or to learn more about the new music, visit Derek on his Kickstarter page. You can also read my review of 'Resistance Is Beautiful' here.

Still Time To Support Dudley Saunders

You still have time to offer your support to singer/songwriter Dudley Saunders as he raises funds to release an album of new music. His music is very special, a great amalgam of the power of great Folk music with the haunting soul of strong poetry, and the jolting edge of Punk. check out this music video for "The Winding Sheet" from his album The Emergency Lane.

Dudley started his Kickstarter campaign to raise money to help with the marketing and promotions for his new album, Monsters. Like all campaigns, there are levels of donations, each offering a gift in return. If you pledge $10, you will get an early download of the album, much like you have pre-ordered the album. For $25, you will get the early download, as well as an autographed copy sent from the artist himself. For $50, you will get the early download, plus signed copies of the latest AND Dudley's last two CDs, and a download of his out of print debut. There are many more, including an opportunity to have Dudley come to your house for a private show for you, your friends and loved one!

Dudley Saunders Monsters

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you must have already heard my belief that we music lovers can not rely on others supporting musicians we want to hear, it is up to us. In election years like we are in now, I often wonder what would happen if we limited the amount of money that could be raised and spent, and instead placed that money into the arts, including music. Think what it would mean if Mitt Romney spent as much money on the arts as he has in his attempts to run for political office? But that will not happen. It is up to us, the people who appreciate music and the artists who make it, to support them when we can. Whether it is a little or a lot, You send the message that their voice is heard, their message is received, and their work appreciated. This is especially important for LGBT artists, who have recorded the history, raised their voices when no one would listen, and told our stories when it was not popular to do so. They've been doing it at Pride festivals, bars, or coffeehouses. A quick tour of AM or FM radio will tell you all you need to know about the corporate support. To hear music that speaks to our lives, our struggle, our loves, our losses, we need to stand up and be counted. We need to support the LGBT artists by purchasing their music, and attending their live performances. When we do, they have reason to believe they can continue to raise their voice. And that is exactly what Dudley is looking to do, with a voice that combine the beauty and musicality, well-worth our support. Check out this video for the song "Love Song For Jeffrey Dahmer", also featured on The Emergency Lane album.

So stand up and let our voices be heard. Back Dudley Saunders, in a way you can afford. He is looking for your support, be it $1 or $1,000. Be open to hear his voice, when his sings a song about his life, and our life. There is less than two weeks remaining to offer your support. Click on the widget below speak up, and let all our stories be heard.

Dudley Saunders • Kickstarter Campaign

I am a recent convert to the church of Dudley Saunders, only finding his music late last year. Since then, I keep coming back to it, like an addict to his crack house. And not just because of the strong handsome features or his sexy build. On his albums, Dudley combines intricate and beautiful music with unexpected and haunting lyrics. You never quite feel like you are on even ground, as he keeps you off-balance, cuddling you one moment, running a chill down your spine the next. His albums are definitely a journey you take with the artist, almost bordering on a love affair. There are moments of infatuation, lust, love, recoil, disgust, anger... You get the idea. So when I found out he was working on a new album, I was excited, to say the least. But rather than allow me to prattle on about it, I'll let Dudley tell you himself.

Dudley is looking to raise just $4,000 to help with the marketing and promotions. Like all campaigns, there are levels of donations, each offering a gift in return. If you pledge $10, you will get an early download of the album, much like you have preodered the album. For $25, you will get the early download, as well as an autographed copy sent from the artist himself. For $50, you will get the early download, plus signed copies of the latest AND Dudley's last two CDs, and a download of his out of print debut. There are many more, including an opportunity to have Dudly come to your house for a private show for you, your friends and loved one! You can hear him performing his award-winning song "Monsters", also the title cut off the new album.

By now, we all know my theory about supporting the artists whose voices we and others need to hear, right? We can't expect everyone else to invest in your aural pleasure, for a listen on commercial radio will quickly tell you the LGBT voices never get the support they deserve, unless it is from our own community. And voices that combine the beauty and musicality with the focused eye of Dudley is well-worth our support. Check out this video for the song "The Undoing (Every Day)", featured on The Billy Whiteacre Sessions+ album.

So stand up and let our voices be heard. Back Dudley Saunders, in a way you can afford. He is looking for your support, be it $1 or $4,000. Be open to hear his voice, when his sings a song about his life, and our life. Click on the widget below speak up, and let all our stories be heard.

Marshall Crenshaw's EP Plan

Marshall Crenshaw

Now, I have been a fan of Marshall Crenshaw and his music for a ridiculously long time. In truth, I think I was introduced to Marshall by my sister Kim, way back when, over 30 years ago. In an odd way, I kinda consider Marshall to be my first singer/songwriter. While there were others before him, he was one of the first of my own generation, although all helped me develop a taste for music, and a greater understanding how music can speak directly to your heart and soul. I still love listening to his 1985 album Downtown, one of my favorites. It has one of my favorite songs on it, Little Wild One (No. 5), a song which continues to intrigue and beguile me with it's sexy and sultry ways.

When I got an email this weekend that Marshall was not following me on Twitter, I practically squealed with delight. I had to catch up with whatever was up for Marshall, since I last checked him out, which wasn't all that long ago. in 2009, I purchased Jaggedland, a surprisingly good album. However, I discovered he was trying to get the funding together to release a series of six EPs. Well, Why don't I let him tell you about it.

Well, needless to say, I had to jump right on this. You see, it is Marshall, for God's sake! Crenshaw manage to combine the soul of R&B and the storytelling of Country, the classic recipe for Rock 'N Roll. His lyrics were smart, and often funny, something we could use more of in music. That was true on my first listen, and still true today. Check out his first bit hit, Someday Someway, from his eponymous first album in 1982.

So that takes me back to a time when I saw Marshall performing live, and realize it has been way too long since I did that. And so many songs I just loved, like You're My Favorite Waste Of Time, There She Goes Again, Cynical Girl, Blues Is King, I'm Sorry (But So Is Brenda Lee), Maryanne, and one off the latest album, Eventually.

So, if you are ready to make an investment in your aural pleasure, I would suggest you step up and check out the incentives on Marshall's Kickstarter page. Don't have the money right now? Post the link on your Facebook or Twitter accounts, and see if someone you know would like to partake. To find it, you just have to click on the widget below.

Don't Forget to Check Out This Angel

I have come out of the closet with my love for Angel Adams. Okay, I will admit that I was never in that particular closet, not for her, nor her talented brother Jimmy Dean Adams, nor her former bandmate Eric Himan. Okay, so if I don't keep it cool, they all might consider filing court papers, but still... One of my favorite songs on the Eric & the Adams EP was the beautiful Hear Your Breathe. It was written by Angel, who recently did a live acoustic performance of it for YouTube.

So Angel has been a bit busy. She recently had a baby girl with her partner, Heather. And she started an account on KickStarter, I had to race over to check it out. It details her plans to put out a new album, one made up of hi great music. A full album? A music video? Damn, I'm in! You can be, too! Want some great music by Angel, check out the incentive to invest in your aural pleasure. You can invest $5, $10, $15, $20, $25? Or even more? Well, there are plenty of reasons to do just that. I Support Angel Adams

Angel Adams

I luvs me some Angel Adams. I first came to know her when she hooked up with Eric Himan and her brother Jimmy Adams to form Eric & the Adams. I became so attached to Angel and Jimmy during that period, I was crushed when their partnership came to an end. I know I loved Hear You Breathe off the Eric & the Adams EP, and it was written by Angel.

I knew I needed to stay in touch. And I did. So I know Angel recently had a baby with her partner, Heather. So when I discovered you were starting a KickStarter account, I had to race over to check it out.

A full album? A music video? Damn, I'm in! You can be, too! Want some great music by Angel, check out the incentive to invest in your aural pleasure. You can invest $5, $10, $15, $20, $25? Thawing Out with Brett Gleason

Brett Gleason

After hearing his first EP, The Dissonance, I knew I wanted to hear more from Brett Gleason. So I was quite excited to hear he was hard at work on his next EP, The Thawing. All five tracks have been laid down, and now comes the time to finish it off. There is mastering, design, videos, and more to do. It all costs money, and Brett is looking for some assistance, but not as much as you might think. Here, I'll let him explain it to you.

Jason & deMarco
Jason & deMarco

The always adorable couple of Jason & deMarco are making a new album featuring live recordings of some of their favorite and most soulful spiritual songs, something to look forward to. But like many who are putting out their own music, they could use a little helping hand to make that music available. Not to worry, they aren't asking for a donation, you will be getting your choice of many things in return. I'll let deMarco explain it to you.

You might remember Jason & deMarco from earlier posts, where I played songs like their wonderful This Is Love.

So, with choices as varied as autographed CDs to singing phone calls to dinner with the boys to a live show in your living room, all you have to do is click through to Kickstarter. Check them out here. You can also check them out on their official website here.

Revisiting Jason Walker

If anyone has been paying the slightest bit of attention to what I type in here, you know that I am a huge fan of recording artist Jason Walker. I just love his voice, and the music he is putting out. He's worked with some of the top producers, like Babyface and Junior Vasquez. He's topped the Billboard Dance charts on more than one occasion, his voice a clarion call to the dance floor for many. His voice just seems to grow in volume and intensity, feeling the driving beat and feeding off it. Check out one of his hit songs, Can't Get You Off My Mind.

But with the last album, Leave It All Behind, he proved to be way more than a disco belter. Sure, he can still get that done, but he can also sing with the nuance and deft touch of a true chanteuse, draining your emotion with a whisper when needed. Like he did in this video for The Song In My Heart.

I've said it before, and I will say it again: I am a selfish. I want more Jason Walker music, and you should too. Music this good is hard to come by - something made evident just by listening to the radio for a couple of hours. To get more of his music, I made my pledge on his Kickstarter page. Why, you might ask? Well, I'll let Jason tell you.

Also, from my vaults, comes the other thing I say all the time. If you enjoy having great out singers/songwriters/musicians/artists, then you have to support them. Whether they are Ricky Martin or Declan Bennett or Jason Walker, they have bills to pay, rent that is due. They must get paid for doing their job, making music. How would you like showing up to work on today and finding out you aren't getting paid? That is what you are doing when you find that free or illegal download. Instead, why not jump on board early, and place your pledge with Kickstarter, and, for $10, get music you will love in return? Or pledge a little more, and you might get a call from Jason singing Happy Birthday. Or maybe a chat on Skype? Or be a special guest at the next show in your area? Or would you prefer to appear in the liner notes of the album? Maybe you would like a private concert in your home? All this could be yours. Just click on the widget below, and it will take you to Jason Walker's Kickstarter page, where you can make a pledge, an investment in your future happiness.

Go on, I know you wanna do it.

Adam Joseph's New Music Videos

Adam Joseph Adam Joseph

I've been a fan of Adam Joseph's music since the moment I heard the first minute of Flow With Your Soul, and I'd even say my appreciation of his talent has gotten stronger over time. My fingers went straight to iTunes, and before I knew it, How I Seem To Be was a valued part of my collection. And all because of this...

Well it has been far too long since this talented boy had a new album available, but I understood why. He is an independent artist trying to eek out a living, pay his rent, and fall in love, all in the big city of New York, which ain't cheap. And if you want to talk about studio time, well, forget about it! But, it turns out he has the music under control, it is the music videos he needs a hand with. Hey, I'll let Adam talk for himself about it.

So you have the story now. I know I want to have music videos I can put on this blog for you to see, so I clicked on the link, ponied up my money, and think you should too. And remember when I mentioned looking for love? Well, he is making music and video to stand up for the chance to for everyone to express their love and affection equally, so when you get the chance, why not stand up for him? How, you might ask? Well, you can fess up a bit of money so he can make videos like Finally, his ode to marriage equality.

You see the quality the boy strives for, don't you? Want a shout out from Adam on FaceBook or Twitter? An advance copy of the first single off the new album? A digital copy of the whole album? An autographed photo? Have Adam call you and sing a song? A chance to visit the set of the video? A cameo in a video? Well, all you have to do is click on the widget below, and be prepared to spend a bit of money, maybe $10 or $25, depending on what you want. It could be more, But in the end, it is up to you to make this happen!

Kickstart Jason Walker's New Album

Kickstart Going Down In LA-LA Land

Going Down In LALA LAnd
Going Down In LALA LAnd
Going Down In LALA LAnd

I was late to this party, but it certainly seems like one worth attending. Writer/Director Casper Andreas is looking to secure the final bit of funding to complete the film that is so nearly finished, he has made a clip available. And it looks pretty damn interesting, and good! The funding is 76% pledged, but there is only 9 more days - fundraising closes on April 29th.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Andy Zeffer. It is a candid, sexy, and outrageously funny look at what and actor can -- and will do -- to survive in Hollywood. This dark comedy takes a riveting and uncensored look at our celebrity-obsessed culture and some people's need to be loved, adored, and adulated at any cost!

Going Down In La La Land

Like our other films "Going Down in LA-LA Land" was made on a very low budget, thanks to an amazing and hardworking cast and crew. (I am familiar with several in the cast, including the delightful Bruce Vilanch, Judy Tenuta, and Alec Mapa. Love them!) Still it's our most ambitious and expensive film to date, and we are out of funds. To cover the final costs of finishing the film (color corrections, sound mixing, credits) as well as promotional expenses (poster artwork, website, festival submissions) we need your support. Donate what you can and please help us spread the word about this campaign on facebook, twitter, and email.

Going Down In LALA LAnd

Please help us finish the film by essentially pre-ordering the DVD for $30, (Check out all the great rewards offered to the left: premiere tickets! signed DVDs! your name in the film's credits! Associate Producer credit!) and join us in bringing "Going Down in LA-LA Land" to life and to audiences everywhere. You can click on the widget below to find out what you will get in return for your investment! There are only a few days left, and if they don't meet the goal, no money will be collected. But don't be afraid to step up and place your money where your heart is, and support this movie now. Don't wait for it to be on your cue in Netflix, order it now with a simple pledge of $30.

Waking Up With Levi Kreis

Photobucket
Levi Kreis
Levi Kreis

Wipe the sleep from your eyes, grab a cup and join Levi Kreis this morning to discuss future plans for his music, including a new album. As someone who went to two of the stops for the recent SideXSide Tour with Eric Himan, I can tell you I am a big fan, and really look forward to some new music. As Levi prepares to leave Million Dollar Quartet, where he won the Tony Award for his incredible performance as Jerry Lee Lewis, he is thinking of what is on the horizon for the talented singer/songwriter and actor. And he is invited you to take this journey with him.

So, if you are interested in supporting this talented independent musician, stop by his kickstarter page here. For a donation of $10, you can get an advanced copy of the new album, 2 weeks prior to release. For $25, you can get that advanced copy, as well as an autographed copy mailed to you. There are a variety of perks, and you can check them out here. Need more convincing? Try watching the video for Not Afraid, a song from the recent album, Where I Belong.

Now, go to Kickstarter, and let Levi know you are on his team.

Happy Birthday Derek Nicoletto!

Telling On Trixie
Telling On Trixie

Tomorrow is not only Thanksgiving, it is also the birthday of one of my delightful musical crushes. It started when I heard his voice singing lead for Telling On Trixie, and I saw the video for Orion's Light and the next thing I knew, I was searching the internet learn about them. As anyone who reads this blog can tell, I love all kinds of music, but I loves me some rock. TOT made some cool rock. The music was hot, and Derek's vocals just elevated the sound to a different level.

When I discovered Derek was an out and proud frontman, I was doubly delighted. In my younger years, I discovered rock crowds are not the most welcoming crowds, so this was big for me. I jumped on board with TOT, and wrote to Derek, to express my appreciation. He was very sweet in his reply. I've never looked back. I was wad when I got the tweet that TOT broke up, but stayed in touch with Derek. I was thrilled when he started a new project, Derek & the Darling. I was near giddy when I saw the first video, shot by the amazing Julian Rad, for Hustler With A Rescue Plan.

DATD Hustler with a Rescue Plan Music Video from Julian Rad on Vimeo.

Alas, that group soon came to an end, but once again, I stayed in touch. And I have gotten so excited when I heard Derek was planning to go back in the studio to start a solo project. OK, so maybe near-giddy is a better explanation. To try to speed up the process a bit, Derek is looking to raise some funding for studio time, and started a Kickstater page. You can find it here. It is easier to let Derek explain it all to you.

Like other similar projects, it is not about just donating money, but also getting back on your investment. You can give what you can afford, and in return, you can get a return, be it an autographed copy of the album, invites to the release party, included in the liner notes, or a private house concert. The list is on the Kind Ghosts page here or by clicking on the Kickstarter widget belo.

I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it. If you like good music, music that really talks to you, that nourishes your soul, you should support it. I try as much as I can, even more so in these tough economic times. I don't listen to the radio much any more - if I hear another tween/tween wannabe warbling I just might scream. I find the music I want to hear, and support those artists. I try to go to as many shows as I can, buy their music, buy their t-shirts, whatever. If I can help them make more music, it means I will have something to listen to, and I won't be forced to hear the shrill garbage the studios put out. Sure, it isn't all bad, but most of it is. For every Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber, there are amazing artists like Derek, Eric Himan, Levi Kreis, Tom Goss, Christopher Dallman, Aiden James, Casey Stratton, Andy Moore, and so many more. These are the artists who really need our support, and who have mine.
