Robert German • Xmas Bells/White Xmas (Not Bing's Version)

Robert German photo RobertGerman_zpsf9bd6cf9.jpg

Robert German Is another very special artist I just love, and can't get enough everything he does. In 2010, he wrote an original tune for Wanda Wisdom's 2010 Online Special, 'A Christmas Wanda'. There is something very special about Robert's Christmas song, filled with humor, charm, and a big dose of adult content. This is a song from the special, 'Xmas Bells/White Xmas', performed by Robert.

You can find 'A Christmas Wanda' on YouTube. For more about Robert German, check out his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter, and 'like' him on Facebook. To find his first album, 'Sirens of Brooklyn', it is available on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. I remain hopeful I might get some new music sometime soon!

Looking Forward in 2012

Clockwise: We The Ghost, Robert German, Dudley Saunders, and Chad Cavanaugh.

I think there is plenty to look forward to in the New Year, but I will only touch on a couple of those things. Four, to be exact. Yesterday, we already had the great fortune of knowing that songster Aiden James released a new album. The great thing about a new year is just that, it is new. As the ball drops in Times Square, it can act like a great eraser, clearing out some mistakes so we can start fresh. We can promise ourselves we will try to get to see more live music, and to support those artists whose music we love. And, to the best of my knowledge, I think there are some people working on new music that get me more excited than it should.

That would include a band from Tulsa, Oklahoma, that is starting afrresh, writing some music and getting ready to put on some shows. We The Ghost, which features Beau Tyler, Dain Samuelson and blog favorite Jimmy Dean Adams, have started working together to make their own music. We can start with a clip of Beau singing an acoustic version of a song they wrote, Let The Love In.

You can find We Are The Ghost online at Facebook and ReverbNation.

When it comes to Robert German, I am completely coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs. I love his music, and have practically worn out my version of Sirens of Brooklyn. So when I heard he is working on not one, but two new projects, I get a bit giddy. I understand they will be released separately, but it certainly means something is coming, something is in the pipeline. And I love that he sent out little teasers, videos with demos of songs, giving us a view into the creative process. In the following clip, we get a taste of Duct Tape & Super Glue, and I love it!

It has been far too long since I have had some new music from San Diego-based Chad Cavanaugh. I eat up Coffeehouse Rebellion, and adored We Got Love. The miltary veteran's pairing of classic folk with interesting rhythms keeps me wanting more. I know he was talking about going back in the studio, and certainly hope he has made it there. Until then, check out this live performance of his song Troubadour.

You can find Chad on Facebook, ReverbNation, and Twitter.

I know that handsome Dudley Saunders has been writing new music, and I hope he has been hitting the studio, or is making plans to do so, for I would love to have some new music from him. I enjoy the Billy White Acre Sessions, and just love The Emergency Lane, but still, I am greedy, and want more. Here is a taste of some new music, Monster. He posted it on YouTube from a live performance. I love it.

Robert German • Xmas Bells/ White Xmas

Christmas tree

The amazingly talented Robert German made his seasonal tribute available to be heard on SoundCloud, and I simply couldn't resist posting it. He sings Xmas Bells/White Xmas, and it is distinctly NOT Irving Berlin's White Christmas.

For more about Robert German, check out his official website here. You can find his first album, Sirens of Brooklyn, on iTunes here, and on Amazon here. It is amazing, and I know I will be a fan for a long time to come. He has some new music coming out soon, and I know I can't wait to hear it!

After reading a post by Robert German about this video, I watched and was enthralled by the visual beauty of the video, and how well it flows with the song. The Australian singer/songwriter has long been making interesting and amazing music. And Soon We'll Be Found is not different. It is just that the video is so visually arresting. Watch and enjoy.

You can find out more about Sia on her official website here. You can also find her on Twitter here, Facebook here, and on Tumblr here.

Sunday Evening with Robert German

Robert German

I have been unbelievably charmed by Robert German for a few years now, since I happened upon the video for Open Wide, and immediately went out to buy his album, Sirens of Brooklyn. Robert's music tends to defy definition or quick description, so don't bother to try to pigeon hole him. He is one of the only artists I can think of who can be both nostalgic and forward-thinking at the exact same time. Check out his wonderful song, This 2 Shall Pass.

While there is a simplicity to the song, and the instrumentation might seem a bit nostalgic, the subject-matter, tone, and the deep textural nature of the production defies the dated bit, and quickly brings the song to a different, very current place. You can also see it in a series he is doing, called Eat My Shorts. It offers abbreviated songs as little taste morsels, an aural snack. I can tell you, I eat them up! This is Nerdy Boy.

I have yet to see Robert German performing live, but I do hold out hope that it will happen, and happen soon. If you need some more convincing, there was also the somewhat disarming, and a bit disturbing Volume 5: Murderer. There is such an eerie quality, making me think of classical and operatic works.

As one could surmise from the music, Robert is a bright man. He also happens to be sweetheart as well. He lives in New York with his partner, Konstantine Malakos, who sometimes writes with German. You can find out more about Robert by visiting his official webpage here. You can also find him on Twitter here, FaceBook here, and on Google+ here. I will leave you with one more of Robert's delectable treats. He did some reworking of the memorable hit by Destiny's Child, Bootylicious. And while Robert's name might not be the first one that comes to my mind when I think dance music, that might change after hearing this...

Robert German - Unplug & Others

While I am enjoying An Intimate Evening with Levi Kreis in Philadelphia, I thought I would talk about another talent I can't seem to get enough of. What with all the holiday comings and goings, with holiday music to post, shopping to be done, I kinda lost a couple of weeks with little new music, and now have some catching up to do. Early in December, out singer/songwriter Robert German released the video for his song Unplug. Now, I am already a fan of German's music, and posted a charming short film, A Christmas Wanda, over the holidays that had featured his song. You can find that short here.

If I was asked to describe German's music, I don't know it would be quite so simple to answer. His music has a bit of quirk, a bit of philosophy, a touch of folk, a spot of pop, a dash of honesty, a pinch of punk, a hint of jazz, and a whole lot of charm, all put together to make for some truly unique and mesmerizing songs I truly enjoy. I have his album Sirens of Brooklyn, and talked about it the first month of the blog here. That post featured his video for Open Wide, the first song I herd of his, which sent me right to the web to find out more about him, and download the album! However, Unplug was not on the first album, but released later as a limited edition single. You can find it on iTunes here. The song is pretty amazing, this mix of gospel song on xanax and social statement about unplugging our minds and reconnecting to ourselves. Here is the video.

As part of that single, can also purchase a new version of a song that was on the first album, Mr. Carpentier. It is much more traditional folk/pop, or at least as traditional as Robert German is going to get. It is lovely and sweet, with a certain amount of innocent charm that warms my heart. Here is a clip of Robert singing the song live.

As I was getting things together for this post, I came across another video that I somehow missed from nearly a year ago. How I missed it, I have no idea, but I am happy to say I have it now. The song, Walking Song, was part of Sirens of Brooklyn, one I listed among my favorites in the previous post. It makes me want to snap my fingers, and start singing with him. This is a video Robert shot himself, so enjoy!

Now I have to figure out when I can see him perform live. I hear he has a new album he is getting ready to release, so I hope I can see him on a support tour. For more about Robert German, you can check out his official website here. You can find his music on iTunes here, or on CD Baby here. Youcan also find him on FaceBook here, and drop him a line about how much you enjoy his music. I know you will cause I just love it. If you don't develop a crush on him after hearing the above songs or Lemon Scented, I might have to check you for a pulse.

A Christmas Wanda

A Christmas Wanda
A Christmas Wanda
A Christmas Wanda

Life can be a drag for Wanda, even if she has music by Robert German on the soundtrack? Well, the people who worked on the film might be able to explain it better...

What happens when you take the ORIGINAL podcasting drag queen and a cast of wacky, wonderful characters, add incredible filmwork by Adam Carmichael and original music by singer-songwriter Robert German? You end up with a zany, wack-a-doodle telling of a time-worn tale that's sure to become an annual holiday classic!

So, if you have a half-hour of time, and if you just need to laugh and have a good time, watch this movie. If you only have 5 minutes, watch and listen to the opening song, White Christmas, by Robert German, and like me, you'll need to buy it ASAP!

Robert, tell me where I can get it! No, really, you should watch this movie. For more about Robert German, check out his official website here. You can find the first post I did on Robert here. I am hoping to do another very soon! I love Robert's music.

Great Music - Robert German

Robert German

Robert German is unique, gifted, and a tad on the eccentric side. His Siren's of Brooklyn CD is quirky, cool, and most likely ahead of it's time. He is a smart and talented writer, and an excellent singer. He is definitely an out man, singing of his feeling, both emotional and physical. Open Wide, Walking Song, Well Formed Man, Lemon Scented, Sirens of Brooklyn, and Marlboro Man are my favorites from the CD. Yes, there are a few more, but I didn't want to type in the entire list from the CD and look silly... Oh, I really like Mr Carpentier and Unplug.

You can find out more about Robert and his music at his website or his MySpace page. His music can be found on iTunes and CD Baby. It is well worth the cost to have the Sirens of Brooklyn CD in your collection.
