Alaska, Courtney Act & Willam • Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)

Now, I don't think anyone can bring holiday cheer quite like a trio of drag queens. And I had to look no further than the alumni of RuPaul's Drag Race to find the new single from Willam (Season Four), Alaska Thunderfuck (Season Five), and Courtney Act (Season Six), the stars of the music video for "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)". The song was written by Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer for The Weather Girls for their 1983 album, 'Success', which also gave the world the classic "It's Raining Men". It is a powerful song, and both Courtney and Willam prove they can sing, and Alaska can bring her own special blend of humor and drama to complete the trio. This is Alaska, Courtney Act and Willam singing "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)".

Uproarious and outrageous, I can't get enough of the song. You bet it went into my Christmas playlist! And now I know exactly what I want for Christmas this year... You can purchase "Dear Santa, Bring Me A Man" from iTunes and Amazon. For more about Alaska Thunderfuck, visit her on her official website, Facebook page, and Twitter page. Jason Walker • Quicksand

Jason Walker photo JasonWalker001_zpsf0941723.jpg

I can say it loud and proud, I am a huge fan of the music of Jason Walker. His vocals reminds me of some of the great voices who have recorded before him, like Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor. His voice can inspiring, energizing, and enthralling, sometimes all at once. And when he changes things up, and moves from Modern to Classic, he can take on Etta James and bring me to tears. I am telling you, I just can't get enough of his music.

Jason Walker - Leave It All Behind photo JasonWalkerLeaveItAllBehindCOVER_zps2007af75.jpg

Recetnly, I was doing some chores around the farm, and put my iPod on shuffle. Up came a tune I instantly recognized, and found to be perfect in every way. I thought it was great to keep me going as I mucked the stalls, and even brought a smile to my face. In fact, I started to feebly sing along. That is just the type of song when I listen to "Quicksand", a track off the album 'Leave It All Behind'. The song begins simply enough, with a catchy electronic beat, when Jason's voice cuts through it all to demand your attention. While he makes it sound so effortless, so easy, I can't resist falling in love every time. This is Jason Walker singing "Quicksand".

"Quicksand" can be fournd on the album 'Leave It All Behind'. You can purchase the album from iTunes or Amazon. To learn more about Jason Walker, visit his official website. Dance Hits From 1994

General Public - I'll Take You There photo generalpublicilltakeyouthere_zps75a3ca55.jpg C photo CelineDionMisled_zps5ff85eb2.jpg
Kristine W - Feel What You Want photo KristineWFeelWhatYouWant_zpsb8780411.jpg Madonna - Secret photo MadonnaSecret_zps8fa4c30b.jpg
Clockwise: General Public, Céline Dion, Madonna, and Kristine W.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the songs that topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1994, and I thought it was pretty damn impressive. Stars like Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Bjork, CeCe Peniston, Deee-Lite, k.d. lang, Mariah Carey, C+C Music Factory, Patti LaBelle, and Ace of Base topped the chart that year, and didn't make this post. Some even had two different songs go #1! Who were the four lucky artists and which the lucky songs? I will begin with the song that went to #1 the week of June 4. That is when General Public, the British New Wave band I just loved, had "I'll Take You There" on the soundtrack to the film 'Threesome', and it caught on with the, well, general public. The song went to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was in the Top 100 on the year end chart. It also stood on top of the Hot Dance Club Play chart, so here are General Public with "I'll Take You There".

You can find "I'll Take You There" on 'The Best of General Public', available from iTunes and Amazon. It was about this time French Canadian songstress Céline Dion was beginning to make a mark on the American charts. Her first US #1 song was "The Power of Love", the first single off the album 'The Colour of My Love', in 1993. The second single was "Misled", which went to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. But it also went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart the weeks of July 2nd and July 9th. This is "Misled" by Céline Dion.

You can find "Misled" on 'The Colour of My Love', available from iTunes and Amazon. During the summer, almost 20 years to the day, it was the start of something pretty darned special. The week of July 23rd, "Feel What You Want" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, the first of eight songs in a row to go to the top of the chart. As a matter of fact, she had 14 of her first 15 songs make it to the top, the other one only going to #2. But it was her first single off the album 'Land of the Living' that started the run, and it is easy to understand why. The song is smokey, smart, sexy, and powerful, and you couldn't ask any more from a song, could you? And the video is, well, amazing. This is "Feel What You Want" by Kristine W.

You can find "Feel What You Want" on 'Land of the Living', available from iTunes and Amazon. For our final song of the post, I can't say it was the artist's first #1 song, nor even her first of the 1990s. Madonna had her first #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1993, with "Holiday". Fast forward almost 11 years, and 18 Dance chart toppers, and Madge releases the album 'Bedtime Stories'. Of course the album is a success, as is the first single, "Secret". Sexy and moody, the song went to #1 on the Dance chart the weeks of November 26th and December 3rd.

You can find "Secret" on 'GHV2', available from iTunes and Amazon.

Kazaky • The Sun

When I think of Kazaky, I think of the music and the astonishing images they create in their music videos. Those images show handsome men doing incredible movement, in various states of dress (or undress, as the case may be). It tends to me a multimedia experience, one I look forward to all the time. The Ukrainian-based group include the handsome and talented Kyryll Fedorenko, Artur Gaspar, and Stas Pavlov.

Kazaky - The Sun photo KazakyTheSunCOVER_zps77e88c05.jpg

Recently, they released a new single and music video, 'The Sun'. As can be expected, the music video includes sensual and gorgeous images of the trio dancing to the dark and sultry song. A bit of dance, a bit of rap, and a part Gregorian chant, the song has a mesmerizing effect, but watching the music video can certainly break the spell. The images of the boys moving has an intoxicating effect, and is a bit addictive as well. This is Kazaky with "The Sun".

"The Sun" can be found on their latest release, 'I Like It (Part 2)'. The album is a collection of Electronica and Dance Music, combining style and substance with a European flair. You can purchase 'I Like It (Part 2)' on iTunes and Amazon. To learn more about Kazaky, visit their official website. You can also 'follow' them on Twitter and 'like' them on Facebook.

Sir JET • Shout Out to the Lonely

Sir JET photo SirJET006_zps976f89b7.jpg
Sir JET photo SirJET004_zps213d2d43.jpg Sir JET photo SirJET007_zps5f9c6ac2.jpg

I first became acquainted with the music of Joel Evan Tye when I saw his music video to "I'll Keep Smiling" on LOGO. I loved the song, and thought the singer/songwriter was quite handsome. As enchanted as I might have been, I must admit I lost contact with him after I purchased the single - the only music I knew was available. That was back in 2009, I think, and only recently, I found him once again. Now going by the name Sir JET, his monogram, as it were, he has a new sound, and a new image, losing the earnest vibe for sure. He released "Shout Out to the Lonely", an explosive and energetic dance track with a strong message.

Sir JET - Shout Out to the Lonely photo SirJetShout-OuttotheLonelyCOVER_zpsa940df87.jpg

When Sir JET talks about his journey, it now includes listening to himself, and allowing his appearance, the clothes and the styling, to be an extension of himself, of what he is feeling. This lead to the gender-bending look of Sir JET, as he allows both his masculine and feminine sides to be on display, and not to be afraid of either. This new expressive freedom seems to have served him sell, for the 'Shout Out to the Lonely' EP is bold, honest, and authentic. You can see and feel that in the official music video for the "Shout Out to the Lonely".

I really enjoyed the four-track EP, and really loved the last song, "Like God". There is a wonderful honesty in the song, and I just can't get enough of it. In fact, I really enjoyed all the tracks, and recommend it highly. You can purchase the 'Shout Out to the Lonely' EP from iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon. Kazaky • Magic Pie Music Video

Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky001_zps3a5edb4a.jpg Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky007_zpsf673eba4.jpg Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky002_zps1e767029.jpg
Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky003_zpsfe0a2419.jpg Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky004_zps09b2788e.jpg

Kazaky are Kyryll Fedorenko, Artur Gaspar, Stas Pavlov and Oleg Zhezhel, at least when in the recoding studio for this song. "Magic Pie" can be found on their release, 'I Like It (Part 1)', which hit the streets last June. Since then Kazaky has released another collection, 'I Like It (Part 2)', where the quartet became a trio, as Oleg opted to step back out of the spotlight, although he would remain as artistic adviser to the group he helped form in 2010. But for their next video, they reached back to Part 1, and remaining a trio of Kyryll, Artur, and Stas.

Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky008_zps79786563.jpg Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky005_zps630aa442.jpg Kazaky - Magic Pie photo Kazaky006_zps7f0a772c.jpg

I can honestly tell you I have no idea whose voice I was listening to at any point in time, for I feel as though their music videos have been truly multimedia events. It would be easy to be mesmerized by the visuals in the music videos. The Ukrainian boys are so very beautiful to look at, and their dancing is sublime. The music is driven, sleek, and fairly sexy. When you put all that together, this old man can tend to break out into a sweat, but continue to smile. This is the music video for Kazaky's "Magic Pie".

I know the minute I finished hearing it for the first time, I had to play "Magic Pie" time and again. There is a wonderful combination of EuroPop and Dance, otherworldly Jazz and deep-rooted sensuality. You can purchase 'I Like It (Part 1)' on iTunes and Amazon. To learn more about Kazaky, visit their official website. You can also 'follow' them on Twitter and 'like' them on Facebook.

Dance Hits From 1986

Grace Jones Gwen Guthrie
E G Daily Dead Or Alive
Clockwise: Grace Jones; Gwen Guthrie; Dead Or Alive; and E. G. Daily.

There was some interesting music coming out in 1986, including in the clubs. With names like Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie, Klymaxx, Patti Labelle, Michael McDonald, Mr. Mister, Whitney Houston, Eddie Murphy, Survivor, and Robert Palmer making the Pop Top 10, you know the dance floor was delivering some great stuff as well. A prime example is the song that was #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for the week of February 1, 1986. It was the incredible Grace Jones singing her brilliant song, "Slave To Rhythm". Jones was a model-turned-celebrity-turned-icon, and had some great music and amazing visual imagery to go along with them.

Some might recognize our next entry. Last season, she appeared on NBC's 'The Voice', and managed to stick around for a few weeks. But back 30 years or so, actress E.G. Daily set her sights on more than just dialogue. The pretty blond wanted to pursue a career in music, and after several years of working, including a role in the cult classic 'Valley Girl' featuring a young Nicholas Cage, E.G. was signed to A&M Records. She was soon working with Jellybean Benitez and Stephen Bray. The pair were already working with another young talent who was a breakout star by this point. Yes, I am talking about Madonna. And on May 17, E.G. had the #1 song on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart with "Say It, Say It".

Our next entry is a dance anthem that sat on top of the Club charts for two weeks at the end of August. It was probably the best known song by R&B Diva Gwen Guthrie, and it caused quite a stir, and not just because it was a hit. "Ain't Nothing Goin' On But The Rent" took the attitude that the man must be a Sugar Daddy, ready to pay for the privilege of dating Gwen. Some men got hurt feelings, others in the Village bars like myself just loved to dance to the song. Guthrie also had a songwriting career, co-writing songs for acts like Ben E. King, Sister Sledge, and Roberta Flack.

The band Dead Or Alive was one I loved the very first time I heard/saw them in a video. Late in 1984, I fell for the New Wave band and their frenetic hit "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)". I was enchanted by the voice of singer Pete Burns, whose androgynous look was perfect for the time. He had such charisma, he was almost hypnotic to watch. For two weeks early in December of 1986, Dead Or Alive topped the Dance chart with "Brand New Lover".

In recent years, Burns become a controversial figure in the British media, with his extravagant cross-dressing and unusual relationships. Although androgynous in appearance, and known to date men, he also married a woman for 28 years. He said he was bisexual, but also went public with a relationship and subsequent civil union to a man, only to see it come apart. He later said in an interview that gay marriages could not work, and it was easier for him to be married to a woman. But he since reunited with his partner, Michael Simpson. He also had issues with plastic surgery, including botched treatments on his lips that he has said cost him his life's savings to fix. Controversies like this have fueled his career in the last decade or so, including a season of the UK's 'Celebrity Big Brother', and some time as a . But in the 1980s and 90s, he made some amazing music.

Johnny Dangerous • More Dirty Stuff

Johnny Dangerous - White Heat cover

A couple of months ago, I had a post featuring the music of Hip-Hop artist Johnny Dangerous. Well, five months ago, and it is long past time I kicked off another weekend with more of his music. So this Friday morning is a great time to start your weekend with a little attitude, a lotta energy, and a sexy good time. And when it comes to Johnny and his music, that is what you are going to get. Before we get started, I will say both his music and videos are not safe for work, nor child-friendly. But they are meant for consenting adults, like some of the best things in life. I will begin with the music video that first introduced me to the handsome man, if my memory serves me right. A while ago, when Logo was still pretending to be a network supporting the LGBT community, they would play music videos, and it was there I say "Dirty Is The New Black", a single off the 2008 album, 'White Hot'. In the music video, Johnny takes it underground - literally - as it starts with him taking a stroll through an underground structure, shedding a little light on the dirty secrets some might hold about their sex lives. It certainly doesn't stay there, heading out to the stores, and to the clubs. The video was produced by Tori Fixx, and directed by Brian Lange. It also features the talents of God-des & She. Johnny Dangerous wants you to release your inner freak in "Dirty Is The New Black".

In our next clip, Johnny continues with that raunchy edge on "(Wan Dat) Azz Iz". The music video was directed by Jaybones of the Butterhouse, and was shot in the best clubs Chicago had to offer. When speaking about the song, Johnny definitely had a point of view he wanted to share. "I wanted to make a fun, party club record" he explained, "one that makes you want to get up and shake your ass, regardless of where you are!" And that he does, with a great song and music video for "(Wan Dat) Azz Iz".

With the next song, we once again see Johnny doesn't mind sharing some screen time with other talented artists. The music video for "Hotline" was shot on location in Chicago, and feature's UK's QBoy and New York City's Soce, the Elemental Wizard. Once again, it was directed by Jaybones for Butterhouse Studios. Johnny gives new meaning to hot phone conversations, as he lays out for us all just what he enjoys with a partner. QBoy isn't shy either, and you can see with the music video for "Hotline", featuring QBoy and Soce, the Elemental Wizard.

Finally, this is not a song off 'White Hot', but a single from 2011. "Work" is one again sexy with some raunchy special sauce, but I wouldn't expect anything different. I mean, when Johnny explains he likes him men "you, dumb, and thick", you know he means business. The song is a collaboration between Dangerous and Tori Fixx, with a stronger electronic, industrial feel than the others.

The first three songs can be found on the album 'White Hot', which can be purchased on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon. To purchase the single "Work", you can find it on iTunes, CD Baby, and Amazon. For more about Johnny Dangerous, visit his official website. You can also 'like' him on Facebook, and 'follow' him on Twitter.

Fun with Pandora Boxx!

Pandora Boxx photo PB_Pandora001_zps782f9516.jpg

I have been a fan of Pandora Boxx since watching the second season of 'RuPaul's Drag Race', when I was on Team Pandora the entire time. Pandora was funny, smart, and pretty, all the attributes I thought needed to be named the 'Next Drag Superstar'. And I must admit, once Pandora left the show, the season began to lose interest, for none of the remaining dragtestants really grabbed my attention. And after the season, Boxx was the only one I have made to to keep my eye on.

I Wanna Have Some Fun photo PB_SomeFun001_zps549ca634.jpg
I Wanna Have Some Fun photo PB_SomeFun003_zpsa0e163c8.jpg I Wanna Have Some Fun photo PB_SomeFun002_zps9c3b8a11.jpg

And, thankfully, once the season was over, there was still plenty to watch when it came to Pandora Boxx. I was especially glad when Pandora teamed up with one of my favorite musicians in Los Angeles, TimPermanent. Both are smart, funny, and kinda sexy, so it seemed to me like a perfect pairing. And that is most certainly true with the wonderful song, "I Wanna Have Some Fun Tonight". Smart and sassy, the song makes me smile and want to dance. The video, well, it is something special. This is Pandora Boxx with Timpermanent singing "I Wanna Have Some Fun Tonight".

You can purchase "I Wanna Have Some Fun", the single by Pandora Boxx featuring TimPermanent from iTunes and Amazon.

Bougie photo PB_Bougie002_zps360fce32.jpg Bougie photo PB_Bougie003_zps44cce75a.jpg

This next song is not by Pandora, but by Jessi Malay, a Pop & R&B singer. But the music video features Pandora Boxx, Todrick Hall, Michael Silas, Colby Melvin, Rhea Litre and others, all who are willing to get fabulous to the new song by Malay, "Bougie." For those who might have just gone "Huh?", bougie means to aspire to a higher class than you now belong in. So, in many ways, this video elebrates a bunch of people being "Bougie Fabulous", and it just made me laugh. To please enjoy Pandora and a list of amazing people in the music video for "Bougie".

You can purchase "Bougie", the single by Jessi Malay from iTunes and Amazon.

Do blondes have more fun? If the music video featuring Sherry Vine and Pandora Boxx is any sign, I'd have to say it is true. Although if might start out with a bit of 'West Side Story', with Leonard Bernstein's music for "Jets Song", with the boys for both Pandora and Sherry representing their loyalties for their gang. But this isn't a take off on that classic show at all, it is a parody of a Madonna song. "Give Me All Your Muff" breathes new life in "Give Me All You Luvin'", as both drag queens give 'Bad Girl' realness. Oh, how I love this video!

At this point, "Give Me All Your Muff" is not available for purchase. To learn more about Pandora Boxx, visit her official website. You can also 'like' her on Facebook, and 'follow' her on Twitter.
