"Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" is an interesting new holiday standard, written by Celine Dion, Peter Zizzo, and Ric Wake for the 2000 release by Dion. It should come as no surprise the recording became a seasonal hit. It was also recorded that same year by Avalon, a Christian group who did a great job with it. Four years later, it was recorded by Clay Aiken for his great holiday collection, proving the song was not just a momentary thing. Fast forward 10 years later, and among the many who have recorded the song, we can add Matt Zarley's name to the list. Handsome and talented, Matt turns it out for a great Christmas single you must add to your holiday playlist. This is Zarley with "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day".

For a limited time, Matt has graciously offered "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" as a FREE DOWNLOAD! I know it instantly went into a heavy rotation on my iPod! For more about Matt Zarley, visit his official website. You can also 'like' him on Facebook, and 'follow' him on Twitter.

Dance Hits From 1994

General Public - I'll Take You There photo generalpublicilltakeyouthere_zps75a3ca55.jpg C photo CelineDionMisled_zps5ff85eb2.jpg

Clockwise: General Public, Céline Dion, Madonna, and Kristine W.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the songs that topped the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1994, and I thought it was pretty damn impressive. Stars like Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Bjork, CeCe Peniston, Deee-Lite, k.d. lang, Mariah Carey, C+C Music Factory, Patti LaBelle, and Ace of Base topped the chart that year, and didn't make this post. Some even had two different songs go #1! Who were the four lucky artists and which the lucky songs? I will begin with the song that went to #1 the week of June 4. That is when General Public, the British New Wave band I just loved, had "I'll Take You There" on the soundtrack to the film 'Threesome', and it caught on with the, well, general public. The song went to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was in the Top 100 on the year end chart. It also stood on top of the Hot Dance Club Play chart, so here are General Public with "I'll Take You There".

You can find "I'll Take You There" on 'The Best of General Public', available from iTunes and Amazon. It was about this time French Canadian songstress Céline Dion was beginning to make a mark on the American charts. Her first US #1 song was "The Power of Love", the first single off the album 'The Colour of My Love', in 1993. The second single was "Misled", which went to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. But it also went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart the weeks of July 2nd and July 9th. This is "Misled" by Céline Dion.

You can find "Misled" on 'The Colour of My Love', available from iTunes and Amazon. During the summer, almost 20 years to the day, it was the start of something pretty darned special. The week of July 23rd, "Feel What You Want" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, the first of eight songs in a row to go to the top of the chart. As a matter of fact, she had 14 of her first 15 songs make it to the top, the other one only going to #2. But it was her first single off the album 'Land of the Living' that started the run, and it is easy to understand why. The song is smokey, smart, sexy, and powerful, and you couldn't ask any more from a song, could you? And the video is, well, amazing. This is "Feel What You Want" by Kristine W.

You can find "Feel What You Want" on 'Land of the Living', available from iTunes and Amazon. For our final song of the post, I can't say it was the artist's first #1 song, nor even her first of the 1990s. Madonna had her first #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1993, with "Holiday". Fast forward almost 11 years, and 18 Dance chart toppers, and Madge releases the album 'Bedtime Stories'. Of course the album is a success, as is the first single, "Secret". Sexy and moody, the song went to #1 on the Dance chart the weeks of November 26th and December 3rd.

The Voice - Season 5 - One Last Note

The Voice Season 5 photo the-voice-nbc-tv-show_zpsd8c8c167.jpg
Left to right: Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton.

Last night, Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin, and Jacquie Lee all gave their fans plenty to cheer about with strong performances, the type that earned them a berth in the finals. Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera also worked hard, doing duets with their artists, and beaming proudly when they were singing. Coaches Blake Shelton and Cee-Lo Green seemed surprisingly more interested than I might have guessed, despite the fact Carson Daly rarely asked for their thoughts on performances. But they stayed engaged and polite, allowing the three artists to take over center stage. And with the show tonight, we can expect less deference to them, as the producers have signed up some stars to make the evening a celebration worthy of crowning a champion.

The Voice Season 5 Top 3 photo TheVoiceTop3_zpsc407d558.jpg
Clockwise: Jacquie Lee, Will Champlin, and Tessanne Chin.

When all was said and done, when the last notes were sung, and the last instruments played, I came to the conclusion that Tessanne Chin had won the night, earning the title of 'The Voice', at least in my eyes. Her talent to sing every song given her this season has been remarkable, showing off her power, as well the softness and vulnerability of her voice. Her recording of "I Have Nothing" starting up the iTunes chart the minute it was released, and soon made it to #1. Her duet with Adam Levine, "Let It Be", went to #4 on iTunes at the close of voting. Jacquie Lee also scored with "And I Am Telling You", making it to #9, while Will Champlin's recording of "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" went to #10. Will and Adam's "Tiny Dancer" clocked in at #11, while Jacquie and Christina's "We Remain" went to #21. While signs might point to Tessanne being crowned, we never know for sure until the announcement is made, about 115 minutes into the 120 minute broadcast.

The show kicks off with Carson on stage with the finalists, and he introduces the coaches. He begins to recap last evening. Then he speaks with Adam, who talks about how much he enjoyed performing with his team. And Christina is just thrilled with Jacquie and her performances. But it is time to bring back all the talented singers as the Top 20 sings "Tonight Is The Night", the hit from Outasight.

The coaches seem relaxed, and happy to be there. Adam is sad a winner must be named, they were all so good. Cee-Lo remains impressed they were that good, after a long and arduous process. Christina is still excited about Jacquie's performances, and the great night it was. Blake wants to first mention he has presents for the coaches, and then makes the announcement that he can tell us who the winner will be - either Tessanne, Will, or Jacquie. And speaking of Christina's artist, she is the first one up to bring back some friends to join her. Jacquie sings with Matthew, Caroline, Cole, and James, taking on the iconic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. The song is great fun. Then we learn that Tessanne will be singing with one of her favorite artists, when she joins Celine Dion on "Love Can Move Mountains". They are fantastic together, just electrifying. The audience goes wild! Carson is quick to point out Celine will be back on to sing again later in the program. Then we are reminded that Ryan Tedder wrote a song for the winner of the show to sing, once the announcement is made. But first, Tedder comes out with his band OneRepublic to sing their new single, "I Lived".

"I Lived" can be purchased from iTunes and Amazon. It was great the band played it totally live, and had the audience out of their seats. I cannot wait to hear the song he wrote for the winner! After a commercial break, it is time for more music, but first there is a tribute to Cee-Lo Green, and his use and occasional abuse of the English language. Ray, Preston, Matt, Nic and Josh sing a Bruno Mars song, "Treasure". They sound great, and very boyband. Nic is jamming, as expected, but while he sounds great, Ray was not buying into the dance moves. And I respect him for that. For his song, Will has asked Jonny, Cole, Caroline and Austin to join him singing "Wagon Wheel". The song was written by Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor, and perfect for this group of artists. It is a wonderful and rootsy performance. After a break, Carson talks with the parents of the finalists, and it is a sweet moment. Then it is time to pay a tribute to Christina, and the magnificent noises she can make. And then Jacquie Lee gets to sing with the band Paramore on their hit "Ain't It Fun".

This is a great pairing, and allows Jacquie to really shine. I wish she had sung some music like this during the season. Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" can be purchased from iTunes and Amazon. Carson introduces some amazing ladies for the next performance when Amber, Shelbie, Stephanie Anne, Kat, Tamara, and Grey sing Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without U". It is a rousing rendition, bringing the coaches to their feet. Next, we see the finalists getting a private tour of the backlot of Universal, and soon we find out all three are getting a brand new car from Kia Motors! Then we see the final confessional, and the touching words from the finalists who explain what winning could mean to them. Then it is time for Celine Dion to return to the stage to sing her new single. Celine is joined by Ne-Yo to sing "Incredible".

Their voices work really well together, and it is a lovely song. "Incredible" can be purchased from iTunes and Amazon. After the break, Carson talks to Ryan Tedder about the song to be sung by the winner. We learn Ryan will continue to work with the winner in the new year, creating more music with them. Will returns to the stage to share the spotlight with Aloe Blacc to sing "Wake Me Up", and they sound great together. This is a fantastic song, and Will seems so happy to be singing it. After a break, Tessanne brings back her friends, so she, James, Preston, Olivia and Grey sing "Hold On, I'm A Comin'", the big hit for Sam and Dave in 1966. The group has a bunch of fun, and James is a live wire! They bring the coaches to their feet once again. And it is time to pay our final tribute of the night, to Blake Shelton and his inability to dance. But it is time for out next guest of the evening, as Lady Gaga comes out to perform "Do What You Want" off the album 'ArtPop'. This is the official video for "Do What U Want" by Lady Gaga featuring R.Kelly.

But for the performance tonight, Gaga is joined by Christina Aguilera, with the ladies in beautiful matching outfits. They both sound wonderful, and Christina's fellow coaches are brought to their feet. "Do What U Want" by Lady Gaga and featuring R.Kelly can be purchased from iTunes and Amazon. And after another commercial break, and 113 minutes of programing, we finally get to hear some results. The finalists are brought out on stage, and each takes a turn to thank their coach. Then it is time to learn the artist in third place, and it is Will Champlin.

Will Champlin 291 photo Will_Champlain_zps2a801031.jpg Jacquie Lee 291 photo Jacquie_Lee_zpsff2dd997.jpg

That leaves Tessanne and Jacquie, and we learn that Jacquie Lee places second and the winner of 'The Voice' is Tesssanne Chin! The confetti falls, and it is time to sing her new song.

American Idol 12 • Top 4 Sing One Hit Wonders & More

The Top 4 of American Idol Season 12 take to the stage tonight, the first time since Season 3 that the remaining four are all women. Heck, that is the only time in the history of the show one sex has dominated the top 4 positions. But in season 3, the producers stacked the deck, as the Top 12 was made up of 4 men and 8 ladies, as opposed to the 5-5 split this season. But that was also back in the day when the contestants needed to adhere to the themes of the shows, unlike this year, when the announced themes seem more like loose generalizations, "as long as we can praise Amber." This week, the fans voted what musical theme they wanted to see/hear, and they picked One-Hit Wonders. But after seeing the list of spoilers, I seriously am confused about the concept of what exactly makes a One-Hit Wonder. Procol Harum had three songs in the Top 40, and yet their biggest hit, "A Whiter Shade of Pale", makes the list here. "McArthur Park" was a one-hit wonder for Richard Harris, although he did appear in the film version of Camelot playing the lead on a fairly successful soundtrack album. Of course, most people will remember the version by the late, great Donna Summer, which is more like the version we shall hear. The second theme of the night, Contestant Free Choice, is perhaps the best of the season, as we finally get to hear music that is hopefully more current so we can judge how the young ladies sound in a contemporary setting, rather than a karaoke contest. Oh, let's just get this thing started.

American Idol 12 Top 4 photo american-idol-season-12-top-4_zpsf841ecbd.jpg
Left to right: Candice Glover, Angie Miller, Kree Harrison, and Amber Holcomb.

The show begins giving us a look of the Top 4 during their auditions, to give us a thought toward how far they've all come. Thankfully Angie reminds us that we have a really tough choice to make, and then we are introduced to the judges and Crusty, who comes down the steps to the delighted screams of the audience. He reminds us there are only a matter of a few weeks left, and Amber, Angie, Candice and Kree all want to be in the final. He introduces them, and the audience goes crazy. Crusty sends them back to get ready for the show, and tells us about the ladies going to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. First up, we hear Amber's thought on her trip, and hear her singing a song by Celine Dion. She will be singing "The Power Of Love", originally sung by Jennifer Rush, and then popularized by Celine Dion.

As she begins to sing the song, I hear she is doing nothing really new with the song, and her voice lacks the volume and power of Dion. She does bring the song to a soft landing, easing off the volume. In truth, that is where her vocal strays a bit, sounding strained. I have yet to hear her really bring anything new to a song, save maybe costuming. Keith loved it, and thought it was a perfect choice for her. Nicki loved it as well, and thought the song was made for her. Randy thinks she has come the furthest this season, starting a girl, but now a woman. Mariah also loved her range and tone, and gave her the "hashtag POW" critique. I guess I remain "hashtag HUH?" Jimmy gets a chance to talk, and also heard the strain as well. But he still thinks the song will be tough to beat. Candice is up next, and she will be singing a song by Drake, who she had met a year ago and liked him. But first she tells us how moved she was by the kids at the hospital, who she saw as being so strong and brave. She will be singing Drake's "Find Your Love".

She slows it down a bit, taking it in the jazzy ballad route. She is in great voice, and this is a fantastic performance. She owned the song, and could not have sounded better. It was radio-ready, and I would buy it myself. Nicki starts off the critique, and wishes she hadn't changed it up so much, and thought it sounded too old-fashioned. Randy thought she over-worked the song, and needs to get out of church sometimes. Mariah disagrees, and thinks she takes chances, and takes her on the journey with her. Keith agrees with Mariah, and thinks she brings so much with her music. I am stunned, for I didn't see that critique coming, and just don't know what they are thinking. We don't get to see Jimmy this time, and go right to Kree and her time in the hospital. She seems very sweet and tender with the kids. She is going to be singing "It Hurt So Bad", a bluesy song by Susan Tedeschi.

I love the song, and think Kree delivers it so well. She added just the right amount of grit to her gorgeous voice, letting her star shine bright. I thought that was beautiful. Randy came on to basically feel the performance was alright, but nothing special. Randy is confused by it. Mariah loved it, and thought she delivered, and also connected to the audience. Keith thought she lacked the emotional connection to the song, and Nicki thought it was just not good enough. Wow, I am at a loss. After the stellar critique of the mediocre karaoke performance, and the beating down of two singers trying to give some artistry. Jimmy returns, and not only downs Kree's performance, he also disrespects the song. Sweet. Angie seemed to come alive with the kids, all smiles as she remembers the kids. She will be singing "Who You Are" by Jessie J.

Angie is back at the piano, where the judges love her. I am not sure this is the right key, for her voice sounds a little shrill on the high end, and a little "pageanty" on the wordy parts. This just seems over-wrought to me, a big mess of sound that gives me nothing but a bit of a headache. She is met with a standing ovation by the judges. Heavy sigh. Mariah loved it, but wants her to deliver more original material, for that can deliver her a career. Keith loved it, but pointed out how it takes a while to get her into the performance that wasn't stilted. Nicki loved it, and thought it was amazing. Randy, of course, thought it was better than the original, and the best of the night. I am so damned lost by this panel, cause that isn't what I am hearing on my television. Crusty brings Angie's grandmother up on stage for a quiet moment, and it was sweet, but really, I am getting annoyed. Before a commercial break, Crusty tells us we are getting the first duet of the night, as Amber and Kree will be singing an Adele song. Well, isn't that original. Le sigh. Jimmy spares a few seconds to say he is thrilled Angie had control of her instrument, and has Amber and Angie neck and neck. Then back to Crusty, and her discover Kree and Amber will be singing "Rumour Has It". This is a great, but over-done song. Kree is in great voice, and there is such a depth to it. For me, Amber's voice pales next to it. Keith enjoyed the performance, but was looking for them to cut loose. Nicki thought Amber had a command of the stage, and that Kree lacked personality. Wow, I was watching another show altogether. They don't give Randy or Mariah a say this time. After the break, out second and final duet will be Angie & Candice, who sing Rihanna's "Stay", which also features Mikky Ekko. During the performance, both ladies struggle a little bit at times, and that surprised me with Candice. The performance got all messy for me, with lost notes and squandered lyrics. Of course, the judges gave them a standing ovation, and loved it, saying that is how a duet should be done. WTF. Moving on, like I am passing by an accident on the highway. The AT&T Theme contest named One-Hit Wonders as the theme, and the first one to take it on is Amber as she sings “MacArthur Park” by Richard Harris, later covered by the late, great Donna Summer.

This is not good, showing a lack of a bottom end of the voice, and some rough notes on the top end. And once again, it is a cover of the Donna Summer version, with nothing new or interesting added. I was a bit bored. Donna Summer added such fullness and depth to the song, not easy with those silly lyrics. Now, of course, Keith thought it was great, and Nicki thought she is ready for marketing. Randy is ready to sign her, and complimented the high notes that I thought she missed. Mariah loved the great low notes, which I also heard differently. Obviously, I have the judges for American Idol, but the singers for American's Got Talent on my television, cause what I am hearing ain't lining up with the judges. Jimmy gets a few moments, and disagreed with the judges, thinking the song was terrible, and not even Amber could save it. Nor those bad notes, Mr. Iovine. Next up, we have Candice singing “Emotion”, the song written by The Bee Gees and sung by Samantha Sang.

Candice was singing really well, and sounding great. The backup singers were not on, however. I thought she took the song and massaged it well. Nicki loved it, and thought she was back on her game. She also bitched about Jimmy calling out the judges, and Randy joined in. He also loved Candice. Mariah loved it, and mentioned she had a cold, and Keith mentioned he wished the ladies would sing something more current. Talk to your producers, babe. Then Crusty dragged out Jimmy, and stupidity reigned supreme, and poor Candice was lost in the shuffle as the judges and Jimmy whined at one another, refusing to leave the topic of Amber. But Jimmy did say loud and clear that Candice was better than Amber this round. Go figure, he got one right. After the break, it is time for Kree to return to the stage, and she will be singing “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” by Procol Harum, alhtough it was also covered by Annie Lennox more recently.

She walks to the microphone with some attitude, which seems to be what the judges are looking for. She is once again on top of the song, pitch perfect as she tells the story. She goes big on the notes, hitting the high end with ease and grace. That was a lovely performance, one I would surely download. Randy loved it, and thought she really redeemed herself. Mariah loved it, and looks forward to download it for her phone. Keith didn't love it, and thought it was a middle-of-the-road song, nothing special. Nicki loves her, loves the voice, but fears she will be in the bottom, and maybe going home tomorrow night. Now, that would be truly disappointing, for not only do I think she was far from the weakest performer, I also seriously doubt anyone is going home - there are three weeks remaining, and only two singers to eliminate. So, in my opinion, this week is all about drama with no conclusion. But I could be wrong. And after a long break, it is time to close the show out with Angie, who is singing “Cry Me A River”, originally a hit by Julie London.

Well, Angie is singing the song, and it sounds very dated, and very beauty pageant. She also lost some notes on the shouty section, veering off to the sharp end, with no sense of current at all. Of course, the judges all love it, and in fact, Randy calls her the best of the night. How Keith could call that celestial, but not point out the out-of-date aspect is beyond me. So I will move past the critique, and get to the recap. Hearing it back, I am reminded that inherently speaking, we have two singers in the competition, and Angie and Amber, too. Candice and Kree have so much more to their voices, and a greater knowledge of music, and I fear how this season will come to a conclusion. At the end, Ryan mentions a surprise twist tomorrow night, and I have to guess they will combine the votes from tonight with next week, to get back on schedule. But if I had to rank them on tonight's performances, I would say Candice took the evening, followed by Kree. For me, Amber's wan performances puts her at the bottom, while Angie was just above her. But we won't know until tomorrow night, so turn in to your Fox station at 8PM to get the twist. Who knows, maybe they are bringing Lazaro back!

GLEE Redux • Nationals

Wow, this is the second hour of GLEE-TV we are getting tonight, and once all is said and done, there is only one more hour left for the season, and the senior class will be moving one. Some might come back to visit, and others will have a story Glee will continue to follow. But tonight, the New Directions head to Nationals, and see if they can make their dreams come true, and bring home a championship!

Glee Cast
Celine Dion The Who Lady GaGa Nicki Minaj
Meat Loaf Grouplove Queen
Clockwise: Celine Dion; The Who; Lady GaGa; Nicki Minaj; Queen; GroupLove; and Meat Loaf.

Mercedes comes down with food poisoning, and Sue is trying cold baths and Pedialyte to get her ready for the show. Coach Beiste comes to Mr. Schue, she needs his help. The kids are imploding downstairs, fighting like cats and dogs. He tells them to focus the passion, and it will help the performance. Outside, Rachel runs into Jesse St. James, who tries to shake her confidence. She doesn't let him, and tells him he will lose. Backstage at Nationals, Mr Schue is about to give his speech to the kids, but Finn stops him, and gives his own speech, explaining how Mr. Schue is the teacher of a lifetime, to the cheers of the kids. More cheers when Mercedes comes in the room, thanks to steroids, witch doctors, and Coach Sue. It is their last performance, and Mercedes wants all the girls to join her in a great performance. In the audience, the judges are announced, with a local politician, Lindsay Lohan, and Perez Hilton. Coach Bieste, Coach Sue, and Mr. Schue are freaking out, but soon the curtain opens, and the girls are singing "The Edge of Glory" by Lady GaGa.

They are met with a resounding ovation, and from the wings, Rachel sees that Madame Tibideaux isn't in the seat she reserved for her. Finn grabs her, and explains it is her moment, one she needs to take advantage of having. She walks out on stage, and sings Celine Dione's bombastic "It's All Coming Back to Me Now."

As she sings, she sees Madame Tibideaux taking her seat. After the song, she gets a standing ovation, including from Tibideaux. Quickly, Finn starts the next number, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf.

Of course, this song is so over-the-top, the very definition of bombastic, making it a natural for the kids. The audience was on their feet, clapping to the beat by the time they were halfway through. They crowd is in a frenzy, including Tibideaux, who is clapping and whistling. Kurt and Mercedes go to wish Unique to break a heel, but Unique is melting down. The pressure of being the only performer in drag, and everyone is looking at him, has finally gotten to him. They calm him down, offering support. They aren't really enemies, they tell him, that is not the way the New Directions roll. As they leave, he thinks he might need to transfer schools. Unique takes the stage in full drag, and sings "Starships" by Nicki Minaj.

Next up, Unique and Vocal Adrenaline launch into "Pinball Wizard" by The Who, from the seminal Rock Opera, Tommy.

At the end, they get a standing ovation, and the McKinley coaches look worried. The judges are meeting trying to name the top three groups, with Perez constantly blogging about Lohan, and the politician coming out of the closet as a show choir groupie. They are arguing, and no one knows what is going to happen. In the lobby, Jesse St. James stops Madame Tibideaux, to tell her that Rachel is the most talented person she would want to have in her program. She remembers his audition two years ago, and gives him a nice compliment. Back on the stage, it is time for the awards. Unique is named the MVP, an honor Rachel was hoping to get to make her NYADA dream come true. The Portland Scale-blazers are in third place. As tons of confetti falls, the New Directions are named National champions. There is screaming and hugging all around. This leaves Vocal Adrenaline in second place, and a handsome but disappointed Jesse St. James on stage empty handed.

After a commercial break, the kids and Mr. Schue walk into McKinley high, and are met with slushie cups filled with more confetti, and there is joyous celebration everywhere. Then we hear the kids sing "Tongue Tied" by Grouplove.

Thinks are happening, like Rachel being asked for an autograph, and Mr. Schue getting laid. They bring the trophy into the school, and put it in the case. They are smiling. Rachel and Finn are called into Principal Figgins' office, congratulated for winning. He also tells them he wishes kids didn't get married until they were 29. But he really wanted to invite the New Directions to sing at an event tomorrow. Mr. Schue and Miss Pillsbury are basking in the afterglow a day later, only to speak of their love, not lust. They are walking to the ceremony, Sue stops them to tell Mr. Schue she thinks she will be named teacher of the year. Mr. Schue agrees she deserves it, for helping the New Directions win at Nationals. In the auditorium, Principal Figgins brings out Finn and Rachel, who announce Mr. Schue was named Teacher of the Year. They both thank him sincerely, and then the curtain opens and the New Directions sing "We Are the Champions" by Queen.

The kids pull him up on stage, and there are hugs to everyone. Even Coach Sue is smiling, and singing along. Soon, the whole student body in the auditorium is on their feet, celebrating the music geeks and the geeky teacher with a standing ovation. Next week is the final episode of the season, looking at graduation and those final goodbyes...

GLEE Redux • Props

As we approach the end of season three of Glee, it feels much like the end of high school. We are going to be saying goodbye to some friends who have been felt like an important part of the high school experience, but we have no idea when and if we will see them again. There are three episodes remaining, but two of them will be happening tonight!

Glee Logo
Celine Dion Irene Cara Jason Mraz Taylor Swift Michael Sembella
Left to Right: Celine Dion; Irene Cara; Jason Mraz; Taylor Swift; and Michael Sembella.

Kurt and Mercedes are brought in front of Coach Sue, who blames them for the rise of "Unique" with Vocal Adrenaline, who has been getting all the media attention, since Sue made them tell Unique it was great to perform in high school choir in transsexual attire. She wants Kurt to wear a flapper skirt, and be called Procelina. He refuses, and Sue fears they will lose. Cut to Rachel sitting at a mirror, and starts to sing "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz.

She calls the NYADA judges, asking for another chance. If she will come to the National competition. Back in to chorus room, Sue tells them they will recreate Flashdance, and Tina Cohen Chang walks out, upset she has spent three years in the background, watching Rachel as the star. She storms out, and only to be told to keep in her place, she's just a junior. Her time will come. She's been patient, waited all these years, and is never doing more than costumes and background vocals. She's at the mall, still arguing with Michael via text, and she falls and hits her head. When she wakes up, she is greeted by fellow students, sort of. Puck is, well, Blaine, and Finn is now Kurt. As she walks down the hallway, everyone thinks Tina is Rachel. In fact, Santana and Artie have switched, as have Brittany and Mercedes. And Sue and Mr. Schue have switched, too! Of course, she sings the lead on "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion.

She sounds great, and wears a cute pink frock, just like Rachel would. After getting an ovation, she gives a pep talk to Tina (Raachel), who tells her she needs to keep trying with Madame Tibideaux. And that she, Tina (Rachel) knows she must be patient, and helping Rachel (Tina) gives them the best chance to win. Suddenly, Tina is waking up in the mall, and is Tina again. She is greeted by the real Klaine, or is it the real Blurt? Cut to Sue in charge of practice, with the kids in welding helmets, leg warmers, and sparks flying from the metal grinders. There is a battle of wills, as Sue still tries to push Kurt into the whole drag thing. Cut to the girls going to talk to Coach Beiste, for they found out she is back with Cooter, and they want to to get out of the house, and go with them to Chicago. She thanks them, but still refuses. Tina goes Rachel, and offers to take her to see Tibideaux, teaching a class nearby. Back in the chorus room, Sue wants to add more props to the routines, and has ordered 18 little people. She ordered them online. Or wants Kurt to don the drag, but he still refuses. Puck volunteers, willing to do drag for the win, but looks awful. Mr. Schue steps forward, and demands the props stop, and the kids just rehearse the number already. In the hallway, Puck is approached at the locker by Rick "The Stick" Nelson, with his mullet in full display. He rats out Puck on the drag earlier, and wants to fight him after school. In the car on way to see Tibideaux, Tina and Rachel are chatting about pans for the future, with Michael Sembella's Maniac playing in the background.

Puck meets "The Stick" by the dumpster, and the mullet-bound meat-head, and gets his ass kicked. They toss him in the dumpster, and he comes out brandishing a knife. Coach Beiste breaks up the fight, and pulls Puck into the locker room. Puck starts to say how he feels, flunking out of high school again, with a father who ran out on the family, a mother who doesn't care, and what a loser he is. He starts to cry, and Coach gives him a hug, and starts to cry herself. She understands what it is like to be strong, and people think nothing can hurt you. It can. Rachel catches up with Madame Tibideaux, who smacks her down again. Tina jumps to her defense, and softens Madame Tibideaux, but she still sends them away. As they leave, sh is left thinking. Back at Coach Beiste's house, Cooter has a line of crap to say, and she pulls out a knife, the one Puck had in the fight. It's not real, but the one in the kitchen, the one she sleeps with, that is real. She drops the ring on the table, and leaves. He is hurtful, and asks who will love her like he has? She will, she tells him as she walks out. She goes to the theater and sings "Mean" by Taylor Swift with Puck.

They are sharing a moment, that is for sure. Puck was rehearsing for Nationals, but Coach has some news. He will be retaking the test he needs to graduate, and she will help him get ready. He's helped her more than he'll ever know, getting out of the abusive marriage. In the chorus room, Sugar Motta is complaining about Rachel, but Tina steps up, and defends her. She tells them to show some respect for the team, and put in the work. their day will come. On the stage, Rachel is rehearsing, singing "Flashdance... What a Feeling" by Irene Cara.

She calls Tina out from the wings, and the duet on the song. Soon they are running through the hallways together, and get on the bus, bound for Nationals.
