2010 Bloggie Best Weblog About Music

Champagne for everyone!

Yes, as I and several others mentioned yesterday, Soundtrack to my Day was named Best Weblog About Music in the 2010 Weblog Awards, or Bloggies. I discovered this when I noticed increased traffic from the Bloggies site on my FEEDJIT traffic feed, and I went there and found this:



I went back and checked several times, for I was in disbelief. I will admit to being in a bit of a winter funk, with what seemed like endless snow, and a rough week or so at work. Then I read the rules, and see that the winners were announced on Sunday night via Twitter, so I had missed this:


So it was true, it seems the blog had won. I was totally prepared for the whole 'I am just thrilled being nominated' thing, because that is so very truth. It was not that long ago that David Dust and Tranny Beth talked me into blogging, and then through setting it up. My goal was to talk about the music I love. My first real post was about Casey Stratton, for I had just purchased his album and decided to review it. I've covered my favorite out and proud singer/songwriters, their videos, new releases, and the live shows I have attended. So I feel once I have thanks David & TrannyBeth, I must thank all the musicians, signed or unsigned, gay or str8, who have made music that inspired me on this blog. Casey, Eric, Tom, Aiden, Levi, Matt, Chad, Chris, Gareth, Guy, Toby, Syd, Travis, Ari, Ivri, Wes, Lee & Alex, Theo, Mikey, Shane, Ronan, Jimmy, Paul, Stewart, Anthony, Garrin, Daniel, Angel, and others, thanks. Y'all do the hard work, I just chat about it. And to the readers, I owe appreciation as well. Your comments keep me on my toes, and remind me there are people out there who, like myself, appreciate good music. Whether you appreciate the new artists or the old favorites, without your support and kindness, none of this would be possible.

To celebrate in the traditional 'Soundtrack' way, I offer you Daniel Cartier, who has a new album coming out soon. Here he is singing an a cover of the Eurythmics Here Comes The Rain Again as I look out the window to watch the rain, grateful it isn't more snow.

Today's Mantra - OMFG

Well, as some have seen, this blog was named the winner for the 2010 Best Weblog About Music in the Bloggie Awards. I am still wrapping my feeble little brain around it, but for the moment I would like to thank everyone who supports and voted for the blog. I am beyond grateful. And I will come back to this, once words and a functioning brain are my friend again, or I might have my online Sally Fields moment...

New Followers - Chad & Jennifer

Trying to stay ahead of the curve here, since a big snow storm is coming and I don't know if the power and/or internet will be staying on here in rural Delaware, I'd like to welcome two new followers of the blog, Chad and Jennifer.

Chad is Chad Cavanaugh, the California singer/songwriter featured recently on Soundtrack. Can I just say, not onl is that picture adorable, but there is something kinda hot about a proud father. Is that wrong? If so, I apologize now. Anyway, Chad also has his own blog, Stay At Home Rock Star, which you can find here. And I am still crazy for his music, which you can find on iTunes here. Jennifer joins us via Twitter, checking in from Johnson City, Tennessee. She is a wife, mother of two, and a lover of music - should fit in very well here. She is a big fan of Dwight Yoakam, so I can have no argument there. She might not have her own blog yet, but you can check her out on Twitter here. While it might be easy to welcome them with a video of Chad, if I was thinking I would of saved the video of him and his daughter for now, but...I didn't. So I am tossing out there a video of Dwight Yoakam doing a greatest hits medley live from the Grand Ole Opry. Enjoy!

Welcome New Followers

This has been a busy time here at Soundtrack to my Day. There are three new members, and I am proud to welcome J.P, {live.a.life.of.love}, and Funkybatty.

J.P. is a handsome 34-year-old librarian assistant from Kentucky just brimming with personality. His blog, called This And That, is about books, sex and politics and can be found here. Check out his post on make-out albums. {live.a.life.of.love} is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a beautiful single lady. Her blog is live the life you love, where she posts about what she comes across in her daily life. Funkybatty has joined us via a Twitter account, found here. Unfortunately, there are no pictures or information, but Funkybatty is most certainly welcome here.



There has been an increase in traffic coming thru the site, and I have to thank the 2010 Bloggies for that. I have most certainly seen an increase in traffic, new followers, and some very nice emails. Whether or not you voted for Soundtrack to my Day, I am most honored you stopped by for a visit. Since voting is closing on Sunday evening, I suspect things will be settling down a bit, and hope when they do, the new followers will be joining in the conversation. In the meanwhile, to celebrate all the new members of the family, as well as those passing thru, here is Livingston Taylor, JT's brother, singing Good Friends.

Imagine my surprise and delight when I happened across the Tenth Annual Weblog Awards and saw this blog nominated in the category Best Weblog About Music with four other accomplished blogs. Truthfully, shock might best describe it, as I hadn't realized the blog was even under consideration, let alone be among the finalists in the category. To whomever made the original nomination, I am grateful for your appreciation of Soundtrack to my Day, which is a labor of love. For the preliminary voters who put us in the finals, I am honored. For those of you who would like to vote for us, you have my appreciation.

A big part of any blog are the comments, and I have been lucky to have a great group of regular followers as well as the occasional visitor who have added to the great atmosphere enjoyed on these pages. Your contributions are certainly a contribution to the success of the blog, and, for me, a part of the reason for the nomination. Thank you so very much.

I checked them out, and all are quite nice and deserving of support. Also, in the Lifetime Achievement category, Joe Jervis is nominated, and deserving of support, as his Joe.My.God blog is incredible.

Voting is open from now until Sunday, January 31st at 10PM. To place you vote, go here, where the screen goes horizontally, not vertically. The music category is about halfway across. But do check out all the categories and blogs, there are some fascinating entries. At the far right, there is a place to fill in your email address and an anti-spam word device before completing the process. A verification email will be sent to the address to finalize the vote.
