SyFy's Being Human • 'Ruh Roh'

This is the season finale of Being Human, Season 3 Episode 13 of the SyFy Channel's version of the great series first produced on the BBC. Since the early episodes of the series, the SyFy version, set in Boston, Massachusetts, found a narrative of its own, allowing the ghost, the vampire, and the werewolf to step out of the shadowy constraints of the British original and find a life of their own. I love both series!

Last week, we were left with amazing mixed emotions as Josh and Nora married due to the insistence of his sister, Emily. They went on their honeymoon, only to be followed by Liam McLean. We know Liam has been relentless in his trying to find out who killed his purebred werewolf cubs Brynn and Connor. And while we know it was Nora who took out Brynn, we are also aware Aiden admitted to killing her while Liam was torturing him. Liam was also the wolf who returned the curse to Josh, as he was rescuing Aiden. And speaking of the sexy vampire, Aiden seemed truly happy dating Kat. So much so, he doesn't seem to notice that while Kenny lays in the basement, certain deformities are starting to appear. Of course, he was distracted not only by Kat, but with preparations for and officiating at the wedding, as well as joining Josh and Sally in her attempt to battle Donna for her soul. Yes, Sally's zombie life had ended, and her friends the werewolf and the vampire passed through the door to fight the practitioner of Black Arts. While Josh took on a reanimated Ray, Sally and Aiden went to battle with Donna, and eventually were victorious. Sally returned to being a ghost, clothed in the great dress Nora gave her just before her passing. But were they truly the winners? As people came and went in the house, the candles lit up, went out, all while Sally looked on frightened. What is next for our favorite supernatural trio? After all they have been through together, what is next?

As the season finale begins, we find Liam talking to Nora outside her honeymoon cottage, and soon they are joined by Josh. Nora tells him to leave, but he isn't budging. Liam is there to warn them that their belief in the vampire virus cure is misplaced. He wants them to go with him somewhere. And he pulls a gun to enhance the invitation... Back at the house, Aiden and Kat are sharing an intimate evening, with leftover reception food either being an aphrodisiac or a sinfully delicious foreplay toy.

 

Sally pops in for a moment, disturbing Aiden. At first he tries to send Kat away to deal with Sally, but his lust gets the best of him. Upstairs in her room, Sally chats with herself on the bed. I mean, literally chats with her dead corpse. She seems to have a secret we have yet to hear about.

Nora and Josh follow Liam into what looks like an abandoned building, explaining they need to see something. Josh still cannot trust the man, and wished they had a phone to call Aiden, though Nora doesn't want to drag the vampire into this werewolf soap opera. They follow him into the empty building, not sure what is waiting for them. What he brings them to is a pile of bodies. They are vampires, after having drank werewolf blood. They are creating a new species. Back at the house, Aiden is in bed, naked with Kat, and he takes my breath away in a few of the shots. He starts to remember his life with his wife, and his son. He is still hiding from people, for fear of how they will react to his coming back from the dead.

He is awakened by Sally, who needs him to see about Kenny. He is banging in the basement, and when he gets there, Kenny's head is deformed, swollen and pitted. Aiden tries to calm him. Back with the others, Liam is talking to Josh and Nora, and trying to take them into his pack. The resist vocally, with Josh and Liam getting heavy. Suddenly, Nora announces she killed Brynn. Back in the basement, Aiden and Sally try to sooth Kenny, who wonders aloud what he has become. He drinks blood from a hospital bag, and is angry and confused. Aiden is not sure what has happened, but wants to try to figure it out. Sally tries to help, but as they talk, they hear a scream upstairs. Aiden runs to the scream, recognizing it is Kat. She is up in Sally's room, looking at the rotting body in the bed. Aiden tries to explain, but is not sure what to say. Sally panics, slamming the door shut. Kat is freaked out, and runs out. Sally apologizes to him,but when he runs after Kat, she is gone.

After the break, Liam shoves Josh and Nora into the fenced area with the bodies, and they start waking up. He gives them a wooden stake, wanting them to kill all the vampire mutants. One came after them, and Josh kills him. Then another, and the woman throws Josh aside before Nora stakes her. Josh then sees a can of gasoline, and wants to set the pile of bodies aflame. Back at the house, Aiden is talking with Kenny, trying to offer him wise words, although he can't quite come up with the answers. It reminds Aiden of a time with his son. The boy came to Aiden, to tell him the villagers had figured it out, and were calling both Aiden and his wife were the work of the Devil. Back in present day, Aiden and Sally talk about their desire for a family, and the mistakes they have made to try to get one. As they talk, Liam comes in, and shoots Aiden in the forehead. He has come to kill Aiden's "son", but the vampire won't tell him where Kenny is. Liam shoots him a few more times, and then hears Kenny yelling from the basement. Liam goes down there, and Sally appears near Kenny, and Aiden falls down the steps. Liam grabs a shovel, and smacks Aiden with it. He also stabs him with a pipe in the stomach. Then he breaks the shovel off, and moves to stake Kenny. Sally screams, and the handle bursts into flames. Josh and Nora come in, and Josh goes after the werewolf. Liam takes out Josh, and then Nora. While she is out on the floor, Kenny feeds from her. Liam makes a move to kill more, but Aiden grabs him and pulls him in to himself, impaling the purebred on the stake. He turns into the wolf, and dies. Everyone notices that Kenny is feeding, and pull him away, and Josh cradles his wife.

They all wake up, and Aiden is drinking from a bag, looking out of sorts. Josh is sitting with Nora, who looks drained but alive. Aiden goes out, to see what he can do about Kat. But first Josh asks him about Kenny, and Aiden knows what he needs to do. But first, to deal with Kat. He goes to see Blake, hoping she can compel Kat to forget all she saw. Back at the house, Nora wants to talk to Josh about his relationship to his wolf, and how he not only didn't get to kill his maker, he showed no signs of wanting to do it. He agreed, talking about how recent history has changed him. Blake knocks on Kat's door, and enters her house. Aiden soon joins her, and Kat freaks out. She tries to call the cops, but Aiden stops her.

After the break, Blake has compelled Kat to forget about seeing Sally's corpse, and to remember what a wonderful time she had at the wedding. She puts her to sleep, and leaves after reminding Adien he owes her a favor. He hugs Kat. Cut to the woods, and Aiden is walking with Kenny. The new vampire understands what is about to happen, but wants to talk. Aiden flashes back to colonial times, and the villagers murdering his wife. Aiden runs up with Isaac in his arms, and as the villagers attack and beat him, he tells his son to run. After Isaac is out of sight, he takes his revenge on the people. It ends with a primal scream, and Aiden back with a pleading Kenny. He grabs him like he did the preacher, but then looks into his eyes, and tells him to run. He lets Kenny run away.

Back with the trio, Josh is burying Sally's body in her grave, and they walk away to give Sally a moment alone with her body. Once they were away, Josh asks about Kenny. Aiden lied, and told him the boy never had a chance. Back at the house, Aiden talks to Sally about things, and asks about them doing something together. They chat, and bring up last night was the first night Josh turned again. Sally brings up Kat, and Adien avoids answering, and leaves. Sally is alone in the house, and Donna is sitting on the stairs, and she talks to Sally, telling her they are linked. But Donna wants to leave the house, for Sally is too strong there. In fact, Sally, Aiden, and Josh are the strongest beings Donna has come across in a very long time. Sally threatens to fight back, but Donna pushes her down the steps once again, and the stoop begins to crumble. Quickly, Sally fights to climb out, but Donna pulls her back down. They disappear, and the stairs and stoop repair themselves, like nothing had ever happened.

After an exceedingly long commercial, we see Aiden walking down the street, alone and distant. Soon, a cab pulls over, and a beautiful women gets out, and seems to have her eyes on Aiden, and walks down the street. In the woods, Nora wakes up after being a wolf all night, and calls out to Josh. She walks a bit, and then she hears growling. She sees a huge wolf, and realizes it is Josh, with the blood of the purebred in him now. She is worried about her husband, and then the credits roll. And the 2011 American Idol Is...

After all the auditions, the drama of the Hollywood and the semifinal rounds, and 12 weeks of finalists being sent home by the voting public, it is at last time to crown a new American Idol. In the tradition of Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze, tonight will end with either Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina joining that list. But before we learn who will wear the crown, we will be entertained by stars old and new who will look to create ratings magic tonight.



The show starts off with a mercifully short recap of last night, and a minimum of jabbering. It seems there were 122 million votes cast last night, and nearly 750 million cast this season. The Top 13 sing the first group number of the night, Lady GaGa's Born This Way. James is the first to perform solo, joining Judas Priest on the stage for a bit of Living After Midnight. James shares the lead vocals with Rob Halford.



They follow that up with Breaking The Law, and I seem to remember there was some sort of deal that James was going to duet with Steven Tyler. But it was fantastic seeing Halford, the first out Heavy Metal singer/musician on the music scene. Speaking of which, next we have Jacob putting that 'Lusky Stank' on a gospel hit, Kirk Franklin's I Smile. Soon they were joined by a surprise guest, Gladys Knight, which seemed to give Jacob reason to take it up a notch. I could've lost Jacob & Kirk, and let Gladys have the stage. She's an Idol to me!



After the break, resident 'artiste' Casey struggles with the opening notes for Queen's Fat Bottomed Girl before it became a duet with Jack Black. Quickly, it is once again official, I don't get it. I just want it to stop. No, please don't... Ugh, too late. He scatted all over that stage.



Next up we have the seven ladies of Idol, minus Lauren. They sing a medley of Beyoncé hits, starting with Single Ladies. All the ladies get a chance to solo, and then they are joined by Beyoncé, working the wind machines better than anyone should. She sings Crazy In Love, and I try to figure out why she and the ladies didn't utilize the moment to do the girl empowerment song, Rule The World (Girls).



After trying to sell more tickets for the tour this summer, it was time to make fun of Steven Tyler. They show the arc of his story, from loose cannon to behaved child. Laughs galore. Next up, Haley comes out to sing with Tony Bennett. They sing the jazz great written by Irving Berlin, Steppin' Out With My Baby. Tony sounds fantastic as he is about to turn 85, although he did manage to lose the lyrics. Thankfully, he found them.



TLC come out to perform next. Well, T-Boz and Chili come out. They were introduced by Lil Jon and the ladies of the top 13 had their backs for the number.



Live Like You Were Dying Scotty shares the stage with Tim McGraw for his big song. This goes better than one would expect. But I have to say, thank heaven's Tim is so pretty. He was also willing to stand back and pose pretty while Scotty went over the top. Teach him something, Tim.



Now we have the tribute to the odd acts of the audition process. It is announced by a Crusty wannabe, something scary indeed. That is followed by a number by Marc Anthony, who is joined on stage by the stupendous Sheila E! And soon, Mrs. Anthony is dancing with him on stage. There is enough salsa to go around! Have no idea if this is the right song or not, but watch Marc Anthony.



Soon, Casey and James chat about their shocking eliminations, only to be put in their place by Pia. Don't worry, it will all be forgotten soon... Next up, the guys of the Top 13 come out to perform the songs of Tom Jones, starting with Stefano singing Kiss, Paul singing She's A Lady, James with What's New Pussycat, Scotty on Green, Green Grass of Home, Jacob with Love Me Tonight, and Casey with Delilah. They are then joined on stage by Tom himself, singing It's Not Unusual. At 70, Tom is over three-times their age, and he takes over the stage. He owned them boys...



There is a last chance for the Ford Commercial, and to sing another Carrie Underwood song - you know, the last Country Idol to take Nashville by storm... They do a nice little bit with teachers who have influenced the kids, and both Scotty and Lauren invite a teacher, courtesy of Ford. They also surprise them with a car! And Ford will be offering money for educational programs! Hooray! To keep the excitement going, Crusty introduces Lady GaGa, there to sing her latest single, The Edge of Glory. GaGa is singing atop a giant rock formation, and dancing with a beautiful half-naked boy, writhing on the precipice. Of propriety, that is. This number worked. Not for a family show, but for me.



Lauren is up next, and she is singing Carrie's scorching song, Before He Cheats. We all know what is coming up next.
Carrie comes out to sing with Lauren. And we all remember why she won - Carrie's voice is exceptional.



Then there is a cute bit with the others teasing the youngsters about how young they are. It is mercifully short. Then they bring Beyoncé back out to sing One Plus One, her latest single. It is a lovely, expressive ballad. After another break, Crusty introduces the star of Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark, Reeve Carney, to be joined by Bono and The Edge to perform Rise Above.



And, with just 6 minutes left, they bring out Steven Tyler to sing Aerosmith's iconic hit, Dream On. He is amazing on it. So good!



So, with less than just 6 minutes left, the time has come. And, finally, the work of the night. Crusty finally announce that Scotty McCreery is the winner of American Idol. He thanks God and Lauren Alaina, and sings the lame song they had for him, falling apart on the way. Surprisingly enough, the show ends on time. Congratulations Scotty,

GLEE Redux - New York

The show opens with George Gershwin's brilliant and legendary Rhapsody In Blue, and Rachel glowing in Times Square, with the iconic billboards and buildings all around her.



Puck is busted ordering a cocktail in the hotel bar, and Mr. Schue calls a meeting in the room, getting the kids to write the original songs. He leaves them there to write songs while he goes to check in to his show with April Rhodes. Back in the Room, Artie & Brittany sing their offering, My Cup (Original Song).



Puck and Quinn want to head out to check out the city for inspiration, and Finn wants to stay put. Quinn convinces everyone to go out in the city, and they sing Madonna's I Love New York while they are exploring.



There are hints in the song of a mash-up with New York New York from the Broadway musical, On The Town.



As the boys huddle together a bit, they try to convince Finn he nees to make his move on Rachel, and ask her out for a romantic date. In the theater, Mr. Schue sings Still Got Tonight (by American Idol champion Kris Allen, Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner) which appears on Matthew Morrison's newly-released self-titled album (on iTunes here).



He takes her to Sardés, where they run into Patti LuPone, who is sweet and tells her to never give up on the dream. They start walking down the street, and the boys start singing Bella Notte, from Walt Disney's Lady & the Tramp.



Rachel and Finn pull in close, and Finn starts to kiss her, when Rachel pulls away, saying she can't, and leaves Finn standing there, with the boys still singing. He seems lost, confused. After the break, Kurt wakes up Rachel, as they must make the pilgrimage to Tiffany's to have breakfast, much like Audrey Hepburn. Rachel admits she wants to come back to Manhattan, and Kurt agrees, saying Blaine is on board. Rachel is confused about Finn, for she loves him, but doesn't want him to get in the way of her starry dreams. To put that behind them for now, they break into the theater that houses Wicked, and convince the guard they need a few minutes. They sing a song from the show, For Good. Of course, Glinda was played by Kristin Chenoweth, who plays April Rhodes on GLEE. It seems as though Rachel and Kurt are having a friendship moment.



Singing the song reminds Rachel that performing and singing is her true love. She can't let Finn interfere with that. Back in the room, Quinn has a melt-down, wanting to sabotage the team to hurt Rachel. She is angry and hurt, and cries. Santana and Brittany try to help her, to remind her that they all need the win, to feel good about themselves. Mr. Schue runs into Dustin Goolsby, who tells him he knows about the Broadway show, but he must keep it from the kids. Of course, the stunningly handsome Goolsby immediately tells the kids, who tell Mr. Schue they know the next time they see him. He decides he can't leave them, they have one last goal together - to win Nationals! After a break, the kids are very excited, and even Mr. Schue thinks they have a strong shot at winning it all! The go into the competition and see a group performing Usher's Yeah!



Mr. Schue runs into Goolsby at the t-shirt table, who is feeling a little smug. He tells Schue the Glee kids have been running around the city all moony, but Mr. Schue tells him that the kids are gonna kick Vocal Adrenaline's butts! Rachel as moment with Sunshine in the ladies room, where they finally make nice together. That allows Sunshine to be ready to sing the first number, As Long As You're There (Original Song). Sunshine is played by the talented Charice.



Before they go out to perform, Finn confronts Rachel about their relationship. She tells him she loves him, but won't let any relationship stand in the way of her desire to be a star. They go on stage to perform Pretending (Original Song). They spend tthe song looking into one another eyes.



At the end of the song, they have a tender kiss on stage. Jessie showed up while the y were singing, to see the kiss. Mr. Schue starts applause, as the audience seems caught up in the emotion. The kids break out into their up-tempo number, Light Up the World (Original Song).



The crowd goes wild. The kids are all excited. Jessie comes up to tell Finn the kiss was unprofessional and vulgar. They start to fight, when the list is put out for the top 10, and the New Directions were not on the list. Everyone is crushed.

After a commercial, we find Kurt telling Blaine about the experience, and how Santana had a melt-down in the hotel, and the absolutely silent plane ride back to Ohio. Blaine tells Kurt he loves him, and Sam and Mercedes stumble upon them, looking for coffee. It is soon obvious to everyone but the cast that Sam and Mercedes are dating. Santana is still angry, and Brittany tells her to let it go, that in the Glee family, they all love each other and accepting of one another. Rachel finds Finn, who has been hiding out. Some kids were till mad he kissed Rachel, and ruined their chances. They talk, with Rachel admitting she loves him, but plans to leave after graduation to go to New York City. Finn just wants to love her till then. They kiss. Soon, all the kids show up for the final meeting of the year, to celebrate finishing in 12th place.

Being Human Season 2 Final Thoughts & Previews

After the excitement of the finale, I was certainly on the edge of my seat. In yesterday's recap, I left it at George and Mitchell leaving the building, with Kemp and Lucy distraught, for their plans have fallen short, with only Annie being sent away. Three weeks later, Mitchell, George and Nina are in a country cottage, and Nina is trying her best to get inside Lucy's mind, with paper clippings and Lucy's book. George tries to stop her, but Nina explains how she feels it is all her fault Kemp was in their lives. George goes to talk to Mitchell in the kitchen, where he tells him that he doesn't want to know what was up with Mitchell, he needs his friend too much. Mitchell goes outside for a walk, and sees Lucy. She doesn't know what happened to Kemp, and she found them through Nina's research. She came to find a way to soothe her own soul, for the death of the werewolves. Mitchell is angry. Lucy wants to see George and Nina. Nina is unimpressed.





The anger is palpable, and they call the meeting for the night. Nina wants to kill her, but George and Mitchell stop her. Mitchell helps Lucy make a bed on the sofa. He explains to her the reason he is not killing her, if he wants forgiveness, he needs to offer it first. Nina wakes up, and hears a noise. She goes down to investigate, still not ready to think of forgiving Lucy. She goes to through her out, only to find Kemp with her as he puts a stake through Lucy's heart. As Mitchell and George come down the steps, they find Nina held hostage. George offers himself in exchange for Nina, and Kemp tells him he plans to kill them all. Nina escapes and there is a whirl of activity. Annie appears, grabs Kemp and brings him through the door. There is static on the TV. Annie appears on it, and tells of her time in the afterlife. It is not great, and the boys are quite moved.







Annie needs to go, but pleads they don't forget her. The TV goes blank, and Mitchell vows to get her back. The show cuts to a snowy field, where two vampires are over a bloody grave, trying to raise the dead. Mitchell told them the bones were there. Are they going to bring back Annie? No, they aren't. It is Herrick.





So, that marks the end of Season 2, but it has been renewed for next season, and they have already started working on it. Since I was able to find them, I thought now would be a great time to give a bit of a preview for season 3. First up there is a quick bit with Aidan Turner, the very sexy man who plays Mitchell.



And here is a clip of the others behind the scenes. While I do enjoy the entire cast - Lenora Crichlow and Sinead Keenan seem every bit as lovely as they are beautiful, I have to admit I think Russell Tovey just keeps getting better looking each year.

Being Human Season 2 Finale

Well, I knew this was coming, but I can't say I am happy about it. Tonight at 9PM/8PM Central on BBC America, the final episode of the second season of the amazing Being Human takes to the airwaves. When we last left our intrepid trio, they were anything but that. Mitchell was on a bender, killing and drinking, having figured out Lucy's connection to Kemp while trying to figure out who bombed the coven. George had started turning while attending a parent/teacher conference, ending his relationship with Sam. His guilt over turning Nina led him to going to the facility run by Lucy and Kemp. Annie went along, telling them it was to take care of George, but in reality, her fear of losing her friends and spending the rest of eternity alone and invisible to the world brought her to make a deal with Kemp to send her over. When we return to the action, we are in the facility getting ready for the new day, with Kemp and his 'altar boys' prepping to do some street preaching to the sound of John Herald's Saved, a Bluegrass gospel song. While trying to find the song, I could only find John Herald's version that I couldn't embed, but here is a link. However, here is a version of the song by Elvis himself.



Lucy is seeing the bloodied body of a werewolf who had no survived the tests weeks ago, causing her some consternation. Annie chats with George, as well as her spirit guide, who George is annoyed by, as he can see and hear her already. But Annie isn't telling George the real reason she is at the facility. There is an odd shadow on the wall, giving viewers pause. On his way back to his room, George chats with Lucy, who admits she made some mistakes, but with the intention of curing he and Nina. George talks to Nina, who, by the way, is looking gorgeous. But then bodies start showing up dead, and the staff of the facility are taking note. Lucy is sure it is Mitchell, and is sent to the observation room by Kemp.





Of course Mitchell finds Lucy, and they have a confrontation, with Kemp watching from another room. He realizes the jig is up, and makes new plans. George and Nina are lucked up, and Kemp performs and exorcism on Annie and kills the guide, opening the door to the other side. Mitchell confronts Lucy while George and Nina share a tender and loving moment. Annie passes through the door.





As Annie passes through the door, we hear David Holmes' No Man's Land play. And Mitchell doubles over in pain, feeling his friend leave this plane. While Nina tries to lead George away, he returns inside, knowing Mitchell is still inside.



Mitchell caught Kemp when George finds him, and stops Mitchell from killing Kemp, telling him 'they're monsters, not us.' He takes his hand, and they leave Kemp to think about what he had done.





What happens next? Have we seen the last of Annie? What is driving Nina? Can Mitchell recover from all he has done, without Annie to touch his heart? Can George, Mitchell and Nina get beyond the events? Are Lucy and Kemp out of their lives for good? Well, you'll have to watch the last 20 minutes of the show to find out. Doctor Who - The Big Bang - Season Finale

Tonight, we get to see watch the season finale of Doctor Who when BBC America broadcasts the episode entitled The Big Bang. The pictures you will see and the storyline I mention will all fall in the first 20-some minutes of the show, so no big spoilers here. But first, I just want to say a few words about the show. Oh, my God [in the classic sense, not in overused internet parlance], this episode is fast-paced, exciting, and loads of fun. Second, Matt Smith was a brilliant piece of casting, so kudos for the production team. He has charm and wit, and just enough quirkiness that he puts the capital 'A' in adorkable. After watching David Tennant for so long I wasn't sure I could handle a new Doctor. Well, I can and just love his take on the iconic role. Karen Gillan portrays his companion, Amy Pond, with just the right enough of bite and brass, like a combination of Donna Noble and Martha Jones, I've grown quite fond of her as well. If they would only bring back [for a visit] the aforementioned Martha, Captain Jack, and Yanto Jones, and, while we are at it, Midshipman Alonso Frame, portrayed by the handsome Russell Tovey, I would be ecstatic.




Now that I have established myself to be a total Whovian geek, the episode starts out where the last episode ended - well, sort of, anyway. So, this episode is, for me, one of the cleverest episodes to date, toying with the time/space continuum in such smart and playful ways. The show starts with a young Amelia Pond is going to the museum to see the Pandorica, thanks to some notes of encouragement from the Doctor. The Doctor jumps back almost 2,000 years to find Amy and Centurion Rory, giving Rory instructions. After museum closing, the Pandorica opens up, revealing Amy is there. The Doctor joins them, but soon a display comes to life, as a Daleks joins the mix. The Doctor, with great elan, spends the next 30-some odd minutes popping hither and yon, leaving notes, post-its or verbal instructions, setting a master plan in motion.




There are flights of fancy with a fez, images of Rory being 'armed' like few others, match-making, and excitement, including an ingenious use for a dish antenna, all culminating on me never wanting this episode to end!





As I said in the beginning, after watching 13 episodes of the 11th Doctor, I give Matt Smith two enthusiastic thumbs up. His inherent charm, quirkiness, adorkability, and amazing energy kept the show moving forward all season long as it was in the process of finding its feet. Truthfully, the show struggled through fewer growing pains than I thought it would. I have greatly enjoyed the season. I will miss having new episodes to watch, but it will be softened by the return of Being Human on BBC America immediately following. To check out Doctor Who on the web, click here.
