I have been enjoying the music by Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter Dave Patten for a couple of years now, and am so happy for him that he is starting to get some radio time with his self-produced music. And while he records and releases original music, he did do at least one cover than I know of, a really nice one of Maroon 5's Sunday Morning. The acoustic vibe fits this video so very well.

You can find out more about Dave Patten at his official website here. You can purchase his music on the familiar places, like iTunes, Amazon, and the like.

Dave Patten • Come Over • Free Download

Dave Patten, one of my favorite Philly str8 boys, has a new video out, for the song Come Over. The song is an interesting one, with Dave offering up the offer of a booty call in a veiled attempt at reconciliation. He also channels great Philadelphia musicians like Bobby Darrin when he dons a tuxedo and steps up to a microphone, delivering a song with a rock swagger.

Courtesy of Dave, you can download the song for FREE here. You can also purchase the album, Exposure, on iTunes here, and you can get it on Amazon here, a real bargain at $6.99 for 14 tracks. It is funny, but I have been a fan of Dave's for a while, and first posted about him on this blog two years ago. And I kinda feel like in that period of time, I have watched him grow from a talented kid to a sexy man making great music and amazing videos. You can find out more about Dave Patten at his official website here.

Sunday Morning with Dave Patten

Dave Patten lives and works out of Philadelphia, and he certainly manages to include some of that great Philly-soul to him music. He does pretty well, for a straight boy. But this Sunday morning, I thought I would listen to the softer side of the handsome musician, starting with a song off the Exposure album, Beautiful.

Now remember that not only does Patten write his own songs, he is also directing the videos. He seems to be a man who can handle multi-tasking rather well, and pull off looking like he is really loving what he is doing. I suspect, of course, that is is loving his life. The next song up is Too Proud, off the Boomerang album.

See, her really does an excellent job, the videos are just fantastic. Now I wanted to pick up the tempo just a little with one of my favorite songs, Wait Jenny. It is the second song off the Boomerang album, but I really like both quite a lot. Here is the video so you can see for yourself.

If you like what you hear, you can buy Exposure by clicking here, and Boomerang by clicking here. You can find another favorite of mine, No Direction, on iTunes here. You can find out more about Dave by checking out his official website here.

New Dave Patten Video - Melt

To commemorate the recent heatwave that settled into the area, I thought I would offer up the new video from Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter/filmmaker, Dave Patten. I am a fan of his music, and thought this would be a great time to watch his latest video, Melt.

Yes, it has been scorching hot here since Easter Sunday, and it was a bit abrupt. That is, however, something that is never said about Patten's music, which is sweet, smooth and rolls up up in it. Melt is off his latest album, Exposure. You can get it on iTunes here. You can find his official website here, and his FaceBook page here. I am thinking Dave made the video thinking that the young blond woman would make his fans melt, but I tam thinking it was the handsome young guitar player who can be seen shirtless for part of the video.

Exposure from Dave Patten

Dave Patten in How Good
Dave Patten Exposure Cover

Today, the Philadelphia-based artist will be releasing his latest album, Exposure, on iTunes. You can buy it by clicking here. I'll let him you see the web commercial he made for it.

The third cut on Exposure is How Good, a pop tune with a great island feel, complete with some tin drums. It also features a collaboration with Meek Mill. Meek's rap break is pretty good, and definitely adds to the song. Check out the beautiful and sexy video below.

There is plenty more great music to be had on the album, but you certainly have a taste so go check it out on iTunes and buy it. You Can get it here. You can check out Dave's FaceBook page here.

Today is the official release day for the latest video from Dave Patten, the musician/singer/songwriter/movie maker. Back is from his latest album, Boomerang. The video is very cinemagraphic, a perfect compliment to the song. I am a fan of Dave's music, including Boomerang. This track is Dave's favorite off the EP, so I was looking forward to the video. And here it is.

For more on Dave Patten, check out his official website here. Not only do I enjoy his music, buy my 17-year-old nephew does as well. You can purchase Boomerang from iTunes here. You can pick up the EP for under $7, and surely it is worth it.

New from Dave Patten

Above: Dave Patten from the Echo video.

I just really enjoy the music of Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter/filmmaker Dave Patten, and his latest video, Echo, should be a breakout hit this summer, if only radio would break the stranglehold music labels have on the airwaves. The music is all kinds of catchy, and is accompanied by a great video directed by Patten himself for his latest single. I've been a fan of his urban-rock sound for about a year, and have enjoyed his music and his videos. After all, as I am wont to say, str8 boys need love, too. Here is his new video. You can purchase the single from iTunes here.

I have a little catching up to do, as Dave has released a couple of videos since I have last posted about him. Seems the filmmaker is quite prolific, and does a really nice job with it as well. In fact, I am thinking other musicians in the Philly-area should be seeking him out to make a video or two for them. The guy has talent.

This is the video for Too Proud, from his album Boomerang. You can find the album and individual songs on iTunes here.

And, finally, here is the video for Discovered, also from the Boomerang album, which features actor Josh West. You have to admit both Dave and Josh are easy on the eyes.

For more on Dave Patten, check out his official website here. Not only do I enjoy his music, buy my 16-year-old nephew does as well. It is always nice to be able to support independent artists such as Dave Patten.

The song is from the No Direction album, which you can check out on iTunes here. His sounds is very modern, a combination of rock and an urban sound, quite fun!

New Video - Dave Patten - Inside

I received the most wonderful email on Monday from Dave Patten. There was a link to his latest video, the first since he signed with Clark Productions. I coincides with the release of his latest collection, Boomerang. Dave put together the project, which is more than a music video, more of a short film with music. I have just recently purchased Boomerang, and am once again impressed by the young man from Philadelphia. The 7-song collection has a rockier edge, kinda like Nickelback with some Philly soul tossed in. All seven songs are wonderful, a strong rock vibe laced with an R&B rhythm. I would highly advise anyone who likes the following song to buy all seven songs, and you can on iTunes here.

So, in the email, one suggestion is made before you hit the link to see the video. I would wholeheartedly agree, and think you should do the same. My one request is that you watch INSIDE at night, with headphones, and FULL SCREEN IT! (for the best viewing experience) ;) Enjoy.

Favorite New Artists - Dave Patten, Toby Madigan & Chris Keys

I thought I might take a look at the favorite new performers I mentioned on this blog this year. These would be the artists who released a debut CD/EP and I just discovered them. In the first post, I covered Mikey Wax, Theo Tams and Syd, while in this one I will choose my favorite video for Dave Patten, Toby Madigan & Chris Keys.

Dave Patten

Philly's own Dave Patten is a multi-dimensional artist, having his had as a singer/songwriter in many genres, as well as taking an active role in his videos. His gritty vocals have just the right mix of tone and throaty fullness to pull off rock or mix it up with a little hip-hop. He hasn't made a video for my favorite song, Back To School, yet, but I hope that will happen at some point. But you can here it on his website here.

Toby Madigan

I found Toby Madigan this summer, and was amused as hell with his first video, Chatroom Romance. I also thought he was a sexy man, and that hasn't changed either. I found his website, and downloaded his Left Brain/Right Brain CD, and it has been a part of my musical rotation since. He combines some heartfelt emotions with a great sense of humor into really sweet pop songs. For more info on Toby, you can go to his website here. An out performer, Toby also was a featured artist at the recent March on Washington.

Chris Keys

Next comes my friend from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Chris Keys. I happened across his music on MySpace, and it was instant love. His voice has beautiful tone, but also contains just a light smokey quality that adds depth to each song. I immediately thought Shooting Star was my favorite, but I am a fan and love them all. He has some mp3's you can download, and you can find out about them on his website here. And the handsome lad has a kind of James Dean quality to him, so I can't believe we don't see him in his first music video, but since he wrote and performed the music, shot and edited the video, I can't complain too much.

New Music - Dave Patten - So Much Free Download

dave patten
dave patten

Philadelphia's Dave Patten released his latest song on YouTube, and created a bit of a sensation with his strong and vocal fanbase. He posted a video for So Much, a new song to tease an upcoming album. Turn on the radio these days, and you will hear an awful lot of auto-tuned voices, so Dave decided to try the same with his song.

Well, suffice it to say his fans were less than impressed. Part of this love for Dave is his distinctive voice, and they weren't buying into the computerized version, nor were they shy about telling him just that. After reading the commentary, Dave went back to the studio, and released a revised version of So Much, minus the Autotune. While I wasn't as put off as others were, I almost regret saying that losing the Autotune did make the song better. Good call fans!

To get a free download of the song, sign up for Dave e-mail list here. And as a bonus, you will get all the news on this wonderful up-and-coming artist.

New Video- Dave Patten - Won't Give Up

dave patten

Dave Patten is an independent artist based out of Philadelphia, his music brimming over the the influences of the urban scene, from hip-hop and rap, to the smooth sounds of the acoustic jazz scene. Philly certainly have been the epicenter for blue-eyed soul, a phrase carved out and owned by Hall & Oates.

dave patten
dave patten

At first I didn't know what to make of Patten, his music seemingly scattered, but once you listen, you hear the through line, sort of an Uncle Kracker with a stronger voice and a better look. He mixes some rap, r&b, with a strong rock base. He is just as comfortable with that as he is when takes it back to the smooth and simple sound of a folk/jazz mix, a la Ben Folds or Jason Mraz. Patten has a sense of humor, often seen in the lyrics and production of the music. He has built up a following for his music with a presence on YouTube, taking advantage of his film school training to make some videos for his music.

His latest video, featuring the song Won't Give Up (performed with rapper Fese), has been nominated in a contest that awards the winner $10,000, the winner being figured by YouTube hits. Well, I think it is a pretty darned good video, and a good song, so why not see if others might think so! You know I believe that every once in a while, Str8 boys need love too.

YouTube link to the video is here. I you like it, or know someone who might, feel free to forward it on. You can learn more about Dave Patten at his website here. Be sure to check out the 'Music' section, where you'll find some free downloads. You can also find links to his other pages there.
