'Love Is All You Need?' is a short directed by Kim Rocco Shields, who collaborated on the script with David Tillman. The short takes a look at social norms, and what would happen if someone decided to mix things up, all because they just want to be true to themselves. The film features a really touching performance by Lexi DiBenedetto as Ashley, the young girl who only wants to be true to her heart.

Date Night • The Language of Love

Tonight I bring you a beautiful short film written and starring Kim Ho, 'The Language of Love'. I first discovered this jewel via my friend J.D. Doyle, founder and curator of Queer Music Heritage. There is something so sweet, so honest, and so familiar to the story, I can't stop watching it. It details the rough terrain of young love, and how trying to navigate it while figuring out you are gay in a straight world doesn't make it easier. But somehow, in the end, we must all learn how to speak the language that is honest and true to ourselves. Enjoy 'The Language of Love'.

For more about this Australian film, check out the 'Making of...' video below. It includes an interview with the writer/actor, Kim Ho. He gives some background information that is fascination.

You can also learn more about the process that helped to make it here. There is some wonderful information about the history of the film.

Date Night • 'Love And Deaf' & 'In The Light'

Love & Deaf short film photo DateNight001_zps1499ed08.jpg

For Date Night tonight, I have included two different short films with distinctly differing takes on love. And when I say short films, I mean it! One is just 6 and a half minutes long, the other 7 and a half! First up is the 2004 film from writer/director Adam Baran, 'Love and Deaf'. The film seems to prove the old saying that there is a very special someone for everyone, the secret is opening yourself up to find them, even at the oddest of times and places. Enjoy 'Love and Deaf'.

In The Light short film photo DateNight002_zps40333339.jpg

In the second half of this Friday Night Double Feature, we have 'In The Light' written by Danijel Margetic and directed by Glen Wood. The film shows us two men waking up together, after a surprising night before. It examines how we can have moments of clarity in some of the oddest of circumstances.

Enjoy your weekend with those you love!

Date Night • Thirteen or So Minutes...

Carlos Salas, left, and Nick Soper, right.

For date night tonight, I thought I would offer up this beautiful short film, 'Thirteen or So Minutes...', written and directed by William Branden Blinn. In less than fifteen minutes, the film tells the story of one young man who is very comfortable with himself, and one who is less so, and how their paths cross. I happen to think Lawrence, played by Nick Soper, is particularly yummy. This is one of several gay themed films from Blinn. I hope you enjoy 'Thirteen or So Minutes...'

Enjoy your weekend!

Many still consider Friday night to be 'date night', although that hasn't been true for me for a very long time. However, that doesn't stop me from enjoying great movies on Friday nights,at least when I can find one. So tonight, we can all watch 'You Can't Curry Love', a charming 24-minute short film I recently found online. The movie asks the probing question, "can a young man from England go to India for work and come back with love instead?" The movie stars Ashwin Gore and Rakshaak Sahni, both absolutely adorable. And both Russell Reynolds and Upasana Beharee put in hysterical performances as the flirty boss and prying best friend, respectively. It was written and directed by Reid Waterer, and manages to not only tell the story, but to also capture some stunning footage of the country of India. The film is the Official Selection of more than 65 festivals on six continents, and has already earned seven Jury and Audience Awards. I say put the film in full screen and enjoy 'You Can't Curry Love', because I loved it!
