BBC's Being Human • The Last Broadcast

This is the recap for Season 5 Episode 6 of Being Human, the final show of the BBC's series that inspired the SyFy Channel's retooling. The series follows the lives of a supernatural trio, a ghost, vampire, and werewolf, as they live together and attempt to lead a 'normal' live. It blends domestic comedy and horror drama to tell the story. The show was a breakaway hit in the 2009 debut, the show continued with the success, with a hot new cast! Unfortunately for those who love the show, the BBC recently announced this would be the final season.

We last saw our trio, things were not good. Alex and Tom thought Hal had killed Natasha, and Tom has vowed to get his revenge. Then Alex saw Natasha (the ghost), who told her Hal was not to blame, but did mention Captain Hatch, aka The Devil. When Alex went to talk to Hatch, he pushed her into a mirror, where she disappears. Tom was off sharpening stakes, and filling vials with werewolf blood. We also saw Alex was trapped in a coffin. It was her own coffin, and she was beside her rotting corpse. And Hal was heading off into a bar, and it was obvious Lord Hal was coming out to play.

The final episode begins with Alex as she figures out she is in a coffin, underground. I would call that the intersection of Panic and Hysteria. Then we cut to the bar, where Lord Hal is kind enough to offer us some entertainment, and he sings Irving Berlin's great song, "Puttin' On The Ritz", as he awakens his newly-made progeny in the bar. Instead of a cane, Lord Hal uses a pool cue to great effect. He is quite debonaire, for an outta control blood-fuelled vampire.

Back at the Hotel, the body count was mounting, with the corpses of kitchen staff and diners littered about the place, some entombed in appliances, others with silverware sticking about, and still others, well, you get the idea. It seems after a thousand years, the Devil will be released, to prepare the world for a great battle. This doesn't sound good at all, and looks a fright. Hatch is up and walking, and leaving the Hotel. Back in the coffin, it seems as though Alex has calmed a bit, but not entirely. She can't just pop out, nor can she pass through the coffin like they do in X-Men movies. With concentration, she can, and soon her hand pushes through the grass above the coffin, and she manages to pull herself up. Once free, she vows to get Hatch. Back in the bar, Lord Hal is giving a rousing speech to his new progeny extolling the joys of vampiric living. Just as he begins to mock werewolves, Tom walks in, as if on cue. He is prepared for battle, and proceeds to take out Lord Hal's crew, either by staking them, or tossing werewolf blood on them. Hal, of course, remains calm and cool. After offering Tom a glass of water, Hal tells him that Tom friend, 'good' Hal, was gone, and it is not Lord Hal's turn to enjoy what the world offers. Tom accuses Lord Hal of killing Natasha, and once again the vampire tells him he did not, that she killed herself. I must say, this Hal is way sexier than the wimpy one we've seen as of late. But back to the story. Lord Hal tells Tom that good Hal put up a great fight, and he loved Tom and Alex very much. Tom thinks not, but Lord Hal points out good Hal thought Tom smart, but Lord Hal finds him stupid. Tom regrets his good and kind friend is gone, but soon the two are engaged in hand to hand combat. Just as Tom gets the upper hand and tries to stake Hal, the stake disappears. Alex is there, and she wants to talk to her friends.

Back in his library/office, Rook is sitting when Hatch walks in, complaining about the fight some of his victims put forward as he killed them. Rook is surprised to see him, not sure what to think. Hatch tells him he is the Devil, and a look of recognition comes over Rook. And the Devil needs one more favor from Rook. Back in the bar, Alex is keeping the two boys apart, trying to explain what is going on. She tells them Hatch is the Devil, and tells Tom the vampire is telling the truth, Natasha did kill herself, having been sent to cause this divide by Rook and Hatch. Lord Hal laughs, realizing they have ben played. He explains the Devil feeds off the conflict between vampires and werewolves, and just a century ago, the two joined forces to strip him of his power and banish him. Tom wants to repeat the ceremony, and Lord Hal thinks he can remember it all. But Alex wants to know if they can trust Lord Hal. He thinks they can, or the apocalypse is not good for anyone. Hal points out, on the other hand, that while good Hal was struggling to remain good, Alex and Tom both refused to trust Hal. Alex doesn't want to get bogged down in this chatter, and instead wants them to go out of the bar and see what they can do. But Hal realizes one of his progeny is still alive, and he must take care of him first. The ghost and werewolf exit, leaving the vampire alone. He goes to the guy, fills his flask with his blood, and then kills him. Outside the bar, Alex tells Tom they must trust Hal, at least until the ceremony is done. Tom acknowledges that afterwards, they will need to take care of him. Then Hal joins them. The obnoxious but hot Hal says they need to go back to the Hotel, and leads the way. They walk down the middle of the empty street, seeing the carnage everywhere. Outside the Hotel, they find three dead bodies, lying still after jumping from the roof. It seems whenever the Devil whispered to people, they killed themselves. Tom is grateful he can't whisper to the entire world. The trio soon realized his proximity to the vampire and werewolf as they had their silly fighting, like over the 'Employee of the Month' thing is what restored the Devil's power. As Hal mentioned that Rook certainly aided in the fighting, they seem him walking up. Once he sees them, he starts to run away. They catch him, and he tells them he did what he did for the greater god, to protect society. He tells them Hatch came to see him, to get the codes to take over the television and radio broadcasts, something Rook's department had on file. Hal suddenly realizes the Devil now had a way to whisper to everyone.

We cut to Hatch walking up to a broadcast center, a smirk on his face. Back on the street, we see Rook walking alone, when a car pulls up, and his governmental boss tells him to get in. AFter some static hits the screen, the 'Emergency Broadcast' sign goes up, and we see Hatch in the picture. He wants to talk to everyone out there, but first he has a few things to say. Outside the center, Alex, Hal and Tom walk up, finding dead bodies on the ground, a sure sign the Devil was near. As they go in the building, we hear he talk about how he suspected the while he was away, humanity would build a Utopia. Alas, we did not. He tells everyone God made humanity so He could retire, having created the pinnacle of all things living. Instead, we elected leaders who abused privilege, and made war, not peace. People have polluted the world, and tried to take away the dignity of others. He speaks of how we have found the lowest common denominator, and worshiped it, like false Idols. He might as well mentioned Honey Boo Boo, the Amish Mafia, and almost everything Andy Cohen has programed on Bravo. In his absence, we've done much of the Devil's work for him. Just as Hatch is about to 'whisper' to all, our trip walk in to the studio. The Devil pauses his show, to deal with Hal, Alex and Tom. They tell him the are united now, he can't use them. He mentions they are not a clear as they might think, but he doesn't really need them, for he will break up the work into four quadrants, and take on each, recreating the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, all by his lonesome. Just as he sets the people working at the station on the trio, Hal brings out the blood of the werewolf, and the blood of the vampire, two important parts of the ceremony. Hatch points out the ceremony will kill those who take part in the ceremony, but Hal tells him they don't care, knowing his blood is not involved. Alex and Tom agree, and Hal starts to mix the blood in his flask. He tells Alex to drink it, and asks Hatch if there are any last requests. No, he really doesn't care. The Devil just smiled, and pointed his fingers at Hal and said "bang". Hal is back on a battlefield, bleeding from a wound. After some searching, Hal realizes he is back where he became a vampire, and Hatch is there to watch. Hal mentions the army doctor was a vampire, and he recruited Hal. He feels strange, and Hatch explains it to him. The Doctor has not found him yet, and he is still human.

Cut to the room where Alex is sitting in the corner in her robe. Hatch is there, and asks her where they are. She looks around, and realizes it is where she and her family spent their holiday. She realizes it is the night she dies, when she is getting ready. Cut to Tom waking up with a gasp, and the Devil explaining he was a tough one. He is in the B&B, but someone is missing. Who might it be? No, not Alex and Hal, but something else... The Wolf. He is no longer a werewolf. Back with Hal, the Devil offers a deal - Hal could turn down the Doctor, and live out his life as a human. Hal says he can't stay there, knowing the Devil will tear apart the world in five centuries. Hal doesn't want to hear it, but the his best friend, Leo, is standing there. Back with Alex, she is also being tempted, with love, career, babies, and sex. She can't, she tells him, but he thinks she can. He won't destroy this world, only that other world. And she can't have both. But here, she would have her father again. We zip back to Tom, asking if this is a dream. The Devil hedges a bit, calling it a gray area. If Tom accepts, he will have a happy life there at the B&B, with Allison, and there yet to be born baby. Back to Hal, he is crawling toward Leo, having missed him so. Leo speaks of their first meeting, and wants to know why Hal introduced himself. Hal admits it was for dogfights. Leo tells him the names of the five people Leo killed, names he can not forget. If Hal takes the deal, they can all be spared that pain. Back with Tom, Allison is talking to him about possible names for their baby. Tom is stunned, and she tries to help, by making him tea. He asks how they met, and she recounts meeting at the cafe, and going to the museum with Alex and Hal. He asks what they have in common, and she mentions several things, but not the wolf. She tells him she loves him because he is kind, caring, handsome, and a good lover. Tom wants this to be true, but he still struggles. HE kisses her, and asks for a moment alone. Hatch returns, and they talk. Tom mentions the blood in the flask is not Hal's, so will the ritual still work? Hatch tells him it would weaken him, but not get the desired effect. Just like last time. Back with Alex, she is hugging her father, even as he struggles to get free. He thinks she looks drained, so why not put off her date with that Hal guy for another day. She bursts into tears, and he doesn't know what to do. She isn't sure she can cancel, at least metaphorically. He tells her that her mother was crazy, having missed out on knowing her, seeing what a great young woman she has become. He goes out to smoke, leaving her alone. She tells Hatch that it was a low blow to use her father like that. He tells her it is just what he does. So she should cancel her date.

Hal is struggling but Leo is helping him stand. But Leo isn't real, just symbolic. Hal is struggling with life, but he continues to remember a man, and Tom and Alex. Leo tells him to forget all that, just remember to resist the doctor. Hal figures it out, this is all a trick. Hal needs to talk to Hatch. He is busy with Tom and Alex, promising them love and family. But it doesn't work, and all three worry about the other two, their true friends, their new family. Hal tells Hatch that deep down, they are human, and he calls for the doctor. And Alex gets dressed for her date. And Tom, he turns him down, and puts a stake in the Devil's heart. And all three wake up with a start, in the television studio. Tom tells him he knows it is not Hal's blood, but they decide to go forward with the ritual anyway, and Hal must be around in a century to kick the Devil's arse properly then. The Devil's minions try to stop them, and Alex tries to drink from the flask, but it is being kicked in the fight. Alex picks it up and prepares to drink it, only to have Hal knock it from her hands, and it shatter on the floor, unusable. Hatch is back on the television, ready to whisper to one and all. He has a secret he wants to share with the world. But he is distracted by something floating in the air. Suddenly, a black substance escapes his mouth, and he is shot in the head with a rifle. It is Rook. Like clockwork, people from his agency come in to clean up the mess. The spell seems to have released the people in the studio, who are all unsure what went on.

Back in the B&B, the trio watch a newscast explain away what happened. Hal tells them he must be off, for they are truly annoying him now. Alex turns to Tom, telling him they must do it now. Tom resists, saying they need him for when the Devil returns. Tom asks to speak to his best mate, good Hal. He asks if they are waking their time, trying to be human. Hal turns to him and say they are already human, and Tom is not wasting his time, he already was human. He says goodbye, and moves to leave. Only he can't get out the door, Alex is keeping it shut. And Tom advances, with a stake. They all understand what is happening. Hal thinks they don't have the stomach for this, but Tom thinks otherwise. There is a knock on the door. Tom answers, and it is Rook. He tries to explain once again he was trying to do what he thought right. Alex is having none of it, she is pissed. Rook announces he has resigned his post, but the bureau was to continue to be funded. Alex can't handle it, and leaves the room. Tom follows her out. Hal asks Rook how he heard Alex, having responded to her question. How did he do that. Rook told him his insides were on fire, and Hal drops to the floor in pain. When Tom and Alex come back in the room, he blows them around, announcing he was the Devil, switched just before he Hatch was shot. Hal tosses a vial of his blood to Hal, who adds his own. He shoves it to Alex, who must drink it. She does, only a few drops spill to the carpet. Soon the trio are choking, unable to catch their breath. The devil leaves Rook, and starts bouncing around the room, breaking up the decor. Alex begins to vanish. Rook wakes up, and Hal tells him the Devil must find another human, and Rook was the only one in the building. Rook tells Hal to kill him the moment the Devil returns. It does, and Hal shoves in the stake. All four lay on the carpet.

First Tom wakes up with a cough, and then Hal. He asks if all are well, and Alex signals they are. Tom asks if the vampire was good Hal or Lord Hal, and he is confused, answering neither. Then Alex stands up, and Hal notices she is bleeding. But not just that, she is also sore, and her tights are ripped. How? What about Tom? He tells them his wolf is gone, he can't find him inside. Hal walks slowly to the bar, and timidly raises his eyes. He dan see himself in the mirror. It seems with the Devil gone, their curses, which came from the Devil, were broken. They are human. In the next scene, Alex is eating everything in the house. Hal can't believe she is still at it. Then Tom joins them, and forces Hal to talk to Alex. Was she planning on returning to her family, to to stay with the boys. Before she can decide, she needs to get in touch with her family, who think she is dead. Alex wants to know what is there for her in Wales? Hal confides he is there for her. I must admit, I do miss Lord Hal. Next thing you know, Tom is calling them to the sofa, as 'Antique Roadshow' about to begin, and they have that game they play. The camera then pans over a shelf, and we see mementos of George, Mitchell, Annie, Nina, Tom, Alex, and Hal, As well as the origami wolf made by the Devil. And the screen fades to black, the story is finished being told.

Being Human stars (left to right): Michael Socha, Kate Bracken, and Damien Molony.

The episode opens fifteen years prior, with Rook taking a group of agents into what he refers to as a 'blood bank', with cots littered with dead bodies that have been drained. He told those guys to always remember "no care, all responsibility" something he tells himself to try to maintain his sanity. They hear a noise, an cautiously move forward and find a little girl. He makes moves to help her out of the situation. As he picks her up, two vampires drop out of the rafters, and attack those men with him. Rook pulls out a crucifix, warding off the vampires. Back at the B&B, Hal is doing push-ups, trying to get back into a routine that will help him stay clean. It doesn't, as our ripped vampire jumps up to see if there is a single drop of blood left in the flask he already drained. Alex pops in, and Hal hides the empty flask. Alex wants to start a house meeting, and Tom joins them in Hal's room. First, she wants to bring up that Bobby did not want to kill himself. The boys don't believe her, so she moves to her second point: Hatch (the Devil) looked her in the eye. Again, the boys scoff at her, refusing to give it much thought. But she convinces Tom to speak to Hatch, although Hal refuses to also check out the old man.

Alex also wants to talk to Hal about his recent despondency, stumbling around and humming show tunes. He points out they are Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, not show tunes. It is her turn to scoff, and ask why he's so squirrelly now. He denies it, but she tries to be understanding, and reminds him what Ian has said about them. She tells him she is wearing her sexiest clothes, for him. For their date that never was. While it might be awkward, they still need to talk about it, so both can be comfortable. They need to get whatever that is going on between them straightened out. Hal wants to go see Rook, to learn more about the suicides in the Hotel. When they go to see Rook, the bureaucrat thinks the suicides might have something to do with a Type 1, a ghost. Alex is insulted. She takes the Hotel file, and pops out of the offices. Rook has no idea what is going on, and Hal takes advantage of being alone by asking Rook for a refill. Rook refuses, and Hal leaves in a huff. Rook heads to the Hotel, and chats with the Devil, explaining he needs a bit of time to see the downfall of Hal and Tom. But Hutch doesn't have the time, and wants to seep things up, to protect humanity and Rook's department. Downstairs, Tom is pouring Capt. Hatch some tea, and they asks the questions Alex wanted. But Tom is distracted by a young lady who runs into the Hotel after fighting off an attacker. He tries to follow her in, but Tom threatens to call the police, and he leaves. Tom goes into the Hotel, leaving Hatch outside alone. He starts to chat with her, only she fears the Hotel is the home of a strange cult. He talks her out of that notion, and then hears about her troubles as he bandages her hand. Hal walks in, and Tom announces that he, as Assistant Manager, has hired the girl. Hal tries to intervene, but Tom will have none of it. Hal tries to fight, but the sight and scent of her blood is pulling his attention. When she goes to shake his hand, Hal can't take it and leaves the kitchen. Tom is definitely falling Natasha. He darts out of the room.

He finds Alex in the lobby, just who he was looking for. She is pre-occupied, reading the files she stole from Rook. She talks about the suicides, and about how Hatch was a witness in 1987, and she is intrigued. She notices Tom fidgeting about, obviously trying to hide his erection, and he asks her to come check out Natasha. In the basement, Hal has closed himself in a room, trying to fight the urge for blood. He starts to arrange a box of color paperclips, struggling with his addiction. Out in the Hotel, Alex is checking out Natasha as she works, and says she is not a ghost, nor a werewolf or vampire. Tom wants to know more, for she makes him 'feel things'. Alex is catching on, and goes out to tease Tom about his crush. Tom denies, it, and thinks about what McNair told him, to think toward the future. Allison, the werewolf, is his life partner, even if he hasn't seen or spoken to her in a long time. She tells him to forget about Allison, and to spend time with Natasha, to see if she could be his special someone.

Down in the basement, Hal is huddled under a table, having organized the clips. Natasha comes to look for him, and it once again freaks Hal out. He hears her heart beat, and sees the blood stain on her bandage. He excuses himself, and she watches him leave, no reflection in the mirror. Then she starts to leave, but sees the man who was chasing her chat with Hal, who tells the man he hasn't seen her. But back in the dining hall, Hal tells her she can't have the job, despite her pleadings. But she then calls him on his addiction, acknowledging he is a vampire. She talks to him, leaving her bloody hand on the table for him to see. He tries to send her away, but she points out that if her cut hand is a problem, it is the first in a line of many, and he will end up hurting someone. He knows that, but is still struggling to stop it. She offers to let him feed from her if he will only allow her to stay.

In a room, Natasha is on the bed, and Hal comes in. He will drink for just 10 seconds, and she should push him away. If he doesn't stop, she must stake him. He goes for her neck, but she stops him and offers her thigh instead. He bites and drinks, and is soon shoved away. He asks to keep it a secret, and she agrees, leaving him licking the blood off his own face. Downstairs, she is changing to leave work, and Tom comes up to her, trying to talk to her, but it all comes out clumsy. She takes to opportunity to ask him out, to repay him for his kindness.

They head out to a fine dining establishment, where even the menus is beyond the two. Tom tries to make conversation, albeit a very stilted attempt. They chat about family and pets, and their is some sweet flirtation. Natasha suggest they leave the stuffy restaurant, and head to an arcade, they the two are off. Meanwhile back at the B&B, Alex is still going over the files, when Hal comes in. Hal goes to her side as she talks about the suicides over the last century, but Hal has other thoughts on his mind. He kisses her, romantically. She asks if he has fed, and he denies it. He thought she wanted it, but she thought they were moving slowly. He apologies, but she tells him that kiss needed no apologies at all. As they are about to kiss again, Tom comes in, humming, with a dinosaur under his arm. As they start to talk, Tom asks about sex, making everyone uncomfortable. Soon Tom is off to the library to find out more about sex, as neither Alex nor Hal seemed ready to have that conversation. Alex smiles at whole thing, but Hal is confused. That is when Alex tells him that the werewolf is smitten with Natasha, the girl from which Hal feeds.

The next day at work, Hal tells Natasha the deal is off, and she must steer clear of him. She asks why, and he tells her that Tom is his friend. Tom and Natasha walk together down the hallway, changing the linens. Tom smiles at a middle-aged couple he believes to be newlyweds giggling. Natasha things it is more likely they are married and having an affair. After discovering she was right, he admits to being slightly slow, and most think him dimwitted. She prefers to think of him as sweet, not stupid. Tom asks her over to the B&B for dinner, he will cook. She agrees. He kisses her, and she smiles. Downstairs, Hal is fighting the bloodlust again, but Alex pops in hoping he will ask Hatch a few questions. He asks about Bobby, and then she tosses the Devils newspapers to the floor. His feigns surprise. As Hal asks about another suicide, he fakes a cough. Alex soon dumps him out of the chair, certain he will save himself. He did not. Hal is embarrassed, and rushes to the mans side. Afterwards, Hal demands Alex quit her investigation, and they have a small fight. Alex leaves, and Hal soon finds himself alone in the office, and a blond woman comes thru, bleeding from her knee. As Hal goes after her, he is stopped by Natasha. He asks for one last feeding, to try to keep himself from attacking others.

Upstairs, Alex pops into Hatch's room, and he is asleep in his wheelchair. She snoops around, The Devil wakes up, and stares into her eyes. She is frightened, on pops down to get Hal. See catches him feeding, and pops out, but not before he saw her. He finds her on the boardwalk, and he tells her how Leo kept him locked up, the windows boarded for two years. Alex asks if he thinks it is their fault he is slipping, and he says no. He wants to feed the monster a little, so it doesn't take over and drink everything within his reach. Alex doesn't buy it, and is angry and hurt. She sends him away, but she won't tell Tom, for she knows it would hurt him deeply. But he must now leave them, for despite his promise, he never went to them to say he was in trouble. He went to the blood instead. She wants him out of the B&B, leaving all his stuff and being on his way. HE didn't ask for help because he didn't want any. She storms off, threatening to stake him is she sees him again.

Back inside the Hotel, Natasha is heading out and is stopped by Rook. He mentions she's been wanting to be a part of the department for years, and he was trying to make it happen now. Natasha is struggling a bit, for she has feelings for Tom. Rook tells her both Tom and Hal are monsters, the kind that killed her mother, and left her an orphan. Meanwhile, Tom sits in the B&B, waiting for Natasha to share dinner. But she is not showing up. Rook goes to the Devil, to tell him their plans might be paying off now. Natasha finally shows up, but as Tom serves dinner, she must tell him something. She shows the bite mark, and tells him it was Hal. Tom grabs his stakes and makes to leave the B&B. He is crushed when she tells him in detail about his best mate, and so angry. He tells her to go somewhere safe, he is going to take care of Hal.

Back at the Hotel, Rook is fixing tea, and Hatch is enjoying the rise in the negative energy. On the way out of the B&B, Tom tells Alex he is going for Hal. As soon as Tom is gone, Hal comes wandering up, asking Alex for help. He asks her to strap him in, to keep him from people. She does. At the Hotel, Natasha goes to the room with Rook and Hatch, to talk to Rook. She wants to fix things with Tom - she hated seeing him so hurt. She calls Rook out for using her as bait. Rook won't have any of it, and will take care of her as well. She reminds him she is human, and he must protect her. He storms off, and Hatch calls for Natasha. Just as Alex is about to go outside, Natasha calls to her. Her ghost is sitting on the stairs. She tells Alex Hal was not at fault, but tried to save her. Natasha doesn't know what happened after she spoke to Rook... Alex wants to know what Rook has to do with any of this. As Natasha explains, they hear something from the living room. It seems the dead body is repeating "He will rise" with a gravely voice. Alex recognizes that from the pictures of the suicides, and asks if Natasha spoke with Captain Hatch. She did. As she finishes the story, her door opens.

Alex pops over to see Hatch, and tell him there will be no rising while she was still around. Down in the kitchen, Tom is sharpening stakes. The dead body continues to repeat "He will rise", and Alex tries to figure out what it means. Hal walks into a bar, looking hungry. As we still hear the voice, we see Hatch moving his legs, getting ready to stand. Tom is filling vials with his own blood, to use against a certain vampire. Hal locks the door to the bar, and smiles as he moves toward the people. We hears the screams of the patrons. Hatch rises behind Alex, then grabs her. He tells her he is the Devil just before he shoves her through a mirror. Like Alice in Wonderland... With a black screen, we hear Alex trying to remain calm in the darkness, and figure out what has happened to her. She find some light, and discovers she is in a coffin, next to a rotting corpse. She screams. As the camera pulls back, we discover it is her own grave she is buried in.

BBC's Being Human • The Greater Good

'Being Human' is the BBC's series that inspired the SyFy Channel's retooling. However, it has been announced this is the final season.

Being Human stars (left to right): Kate Bracken, Michael Socha, and Damien Molony.

When we last saw our sexy supernatural threesome, our heroes were having quite the exciting life, as it were. Alex was still trying to make sense of what has been happening around her since she died. Tom was thinking of his father McNair, and how he wanted success so the young man could make him proud. Now this seems odd to me, as McNair and the boy lived out of a van in the woods, but I digress. So when small-time television weatherman (and recent addition to the werewolf pack) Larry Chrysler showed up to speak at the Hotel, Tom was impressed. And Hal was dealing with a relationship with another ghost, Lady Mary, who was convinced she was the vampires last victim. Tom discovered Chrysler wasn't the man Tom thought he was, and Lady Mary found out Hal wasn't the reformed bad boy she thought he was. And both needed the help of Alex to sort things out, including keeping the ghostly Lady Mary from staking Hal. Only Hal needed a bit more assistance, and he called on Rook to help him clean up a mess. It seems Chrysler didn't run away exactly. His lifeless body was taken away by Rook. What could our trio get into this week?

As the episode begins, we see Rook entering into his old offices, talking to Bobby, explaining how he has to move out of the archive and into the B&B. It seems Bobby is a werewolf, and Rook wants the trio to look after the werewolf. Rook feels Bobby could learn from Tom, and besides, the household owes him. Hal quickly tosses out the reason Rook is owed because he cleaned up after Ian Crumb, the out-of-control vampire on a killing spree. Rook fears the bloodsucker has hooked up with a former coworker, Alan, deepening the problem. And Rook wants Hal's help with Crumb, and Tom to look after Bobby. He exits, leaving the boys wondering about it all.

Alex accompanies Hal on a visit to see Crumb, only to discover the vampire bloodstained and not alone, with a vampire named Alan. And three dead bodies, drained of their blood. Alex thinks the boys need to be staked quickly, but Hal disagrees, thinking enough destruction has been unleashed, he wants to try to rehabilitate Crumb. He offers Ian his help, and the dirty mess agrees. Back at the B&B, Tom is iron a shirt getting ready for work, chatting with Bobby. It seems Bobby has led a rather sheltered existence, with an affinity for hurting himself. But he has a preoccupation with a certain answering machine. Then Hal and Alex walk with, with Ian and Alan in tow. Tom is not happy, for he wanted no other supernatural beings to be in their lives, and not there are three in the B&B. Quickly Hal shames him into acceptance, just before the werewolf heads to work, with Bobby joining to keep him safe from the soon-to-be-jonesing vampires.

At the Hotel, Tom continues to be short-tempered with Bobby, who is frightened by the size of the room. Tom heads off to do work elsewhere, leaving Bobby alone in the room with the Devil. Back at the B&B, Hal and Alex have strapped Ian and Alan in, as they prepare them for what is to come. Detox will not be pretty, and later, they will institute a full calendar of tasks designed to keep them clean. Alex then exposes two glasses of blood - one of the human varietal, brought in by the boys. The other is werewolf blood, donated by Tom. The first will lead to a slow erosion of their soul, the second will instantly kill them. If things get so bad for them, all they have to do is ask, and they can choose to drink from one glass. Only they must be prepared to die for it... Ian asks why Alex is still there, despite how many bad choices Hal has made. She explains that Hal is fighting to be better every day, and she admires that spirit.

When Tom returns to the dining room, he finds bobby under the table. Tom joins him there and talks to the werewolf. He discovered Bobby was turned when he was just 12 years old, on a trip to the country. And more than 30 years later, he still feels bad that his family was killed by the werewolf, yet he survived. Rook has told him all this time that wolves are savage beasts, and the world must be protected from him. But Tom takes an interest now, wanting to teach the man how to live with the curse without hurting anyone. Back at the B&B, Ian is starting to hallucinate about his victims, just as Hal said would happen. At first he shakes it off, but he continues to see Hazel, his last victim. Alan is working to get loose from the ties, and finally does. Ian is being tormented by Hazel, who discovers Ian's crush on Alex. Soon, Hazel/Alan is setting Ian free as well, despite his protestations. Driven crazy with the detox, Ian breaks a chair and uses the wood to stake Hazel, only to discover it was Alan he staked, killing the vampire.

And so the training begins, Tom trying to teach Bobby all about the hotel hospitality industry. It starts with phone training, at which Bobby struggles. He wishes he could be more like Tom, who he things is brilliant. After all, he wears a tie. Back at the B&B, Hal and Alex great the day and their detoxing charges with a smile, only to be told that Ian staked Alan, but did not drink any blood. Knowing Ian is serious about getting off the blood, he wants to begin his training.Soon they are jogging on the beach, and cleaning the house. And Bobby is tailing behind Tom, trying to learn as much as he can about the job, as well as being a werewolf. In fact, Hal and Tom are exhausting themselves, making Ian and Bobby versions of themselves! Ian and Hal are meditating, and Ian remembers his niece, and a sweet time they had. But he also remembers her as he killed her mother, and then her. Hal tells him to remember her whenever he craves blood, for that is what that addiction brings. Ian wants to know what Hal thinks about to stop him. Hal remembers a a woman 200 years before. He describes his relationship with Lady Mary, how his love for her cause a physical ache, it was so strong. But suddenly one day, he couldn't control himself any longer, and he killed everyone in the house, including Mary. Ian asks if that is why Hal is with Alex now, so he couldn't kill her. Hal assures him they are not together. Alex comes in to see how they are doing, and Hal needs a moment to recover from his memory and retires to his room. That gives Ian a chance to hit on Alex.

Alex leaves the room to tell Hal the latest, and finds Hal brooding, wanting to stop the training, fearing the effort to control the blood-dependence is futile. Are they just faking their way through to the next inevitable killing? Alex says yes, much like life, they are striving to be as normal as possible, no matter what is actually going on. It is then she decides to go on a date with Ian, to show just how normal things could be, despite Hal's protests. Back at the Hotel, Tom has a present for Bobby, the answering machine he keeps mentioning. Bobby is excited, and pulls out a min-cassette to play on it. It has a message from his Mother, who was killed in the attack that turned him to a werewolf over thirty years before. It seems it has been 15 years since Bobby's been able to hear her voice, and he gives Tom a big bear hug. Mr. Rook comes in, and fears Bobby is attacking Tom and breaks it up. He has bad news, the investors he thought would keep the archive open were not on board. His anger about this raises the head of the Devil, in the other room. But Rook stopped by to try to being Bobby back to the archive, which had the power turned off. Tom offers to let Bobby stay, but avoids the hug as he is still recovering from the last one.

Soon they are joined by Hal, Alex and Ian. Rook is shocked Crumb is still alive, but Hal explains Ian is working through his issues. Oh, the Devil is loving all this anger and negativity, to be sure. Ian tells Rook how he is changing, and even has a date with Alex later that night. Rook is taken aback by how far Bobby and Ian have come in so short a time. He fears he might have been on the wrong track all these years, and needs to consider taking the minor job with the Ministry of Agriculture as a junior researcher. On his way out, he is stopped by the Devil, who weaves a tale of his capture and captivity by the vampires. He recognizes the gray suit, from when he was saved, and figured it all out. Including how surprised he was to have a vampire and a werewolf working at the Hotel. Was he there to take out the supernaturals? Rook explains his department has been dissolved.

Downstairs, Ian and Alex are on their 'date', and Ian is proving to be every bit an ass as expected. He is rather rude, and somewhat insufferable. Hal is their waiter, and Ian is even rude to him. Upstairs, Rook is still chatting with the Devil, only he hasn't realized it yet. They are talking about the supernatural in general, and how it is only a matter of time before a vampire or a werewolf loses control, and Rook will be needed again. But he won't be there. The Devil suggests he let's something happen, to prove his worth. Rook admits he tried that, but it did not work as planned. It was too small to worry the bureaucrat. How big does it need to be, asks the Devil, planting a seed. You might say it was a Demon Seed... What if something happened while Tom was changing in the woods, and Bobby and Ian were at the B&B? Bobby gets locked in the basement of the Hotel, by Rook, of all people. Upstairs, Alex is still suffering bravely, but Ian is losing his control, feeling ignored, invisible. Bobby tries to call Tom or help, but both start to transform with the full moon. Once the transformation is complete, Rook unlocks the door, setting the wolf free. He goes up to sit with the Devil while the mayhem happens in the dining hall. Hal gets everyone out of the Hotel, while trying to keep Bobby at bay with a chair. Rather than helping, Ian panics and runs. Hal tries to lead Bobby through the hallway, keeping humans safe. Just as it seemed Hal was trapped by Bobby, Tom breaks in to the Hotel, and tackles Bobby. Hal jumps out of the room, and Alex locks the two werewolves in.

In another room in the Hotel, the Devil realizes the plan has gone awry, and tells Rook they have to do something about Hal and Tom, who continue to interfere with their plans. Rook believes that is not the right way to go, but the Devil disagrees, and in his fervor, he digs his nails into Rooks hand. The Devil apologizes, and asks if they could complete their card game. While Rook thinks he has a winning had with a Royal Straight, the Devil beat him with three-of-a-kind, and lays down 6-6-6. Outside in the hallway, Hal is glad Tom came to protect him, and thinks the two wolves will be fine. They share a laugh about their 'normal' lives, only to have Ian come up, bitter about their closeness. Ian feels tired, humiliated, and thirsty, and wants Hal to bring him home. Once at home, Ian still seems angry, and grabs a bottle before heading down to lock-up. Back at the Hotel, the werewolves wake up, and tom apologizes for not making sure he was safe before he left Bobby. And that he might have exaggerated a bit when he spoke of himself. But Bobby is okay with it, and they hug. And Alex pops in, and the boys realize they are naked. Later, Bobby excitedly tells Alex about all he plans to do, like go to school. But she thought Hal should be back to work by now, so Tom and she go home to check on him. As soon as they are gone, the Devil comes to Bobby and whispers in his ear.

Back at the B&B, Hal is waking up, strapped to the chair in the basement with Ian looming over him. Hal begs to be set free, before 'he' shows up. But it is too late, and those familiar black eyes come out. It is evil Lord Hal, and he wants to play with Crumb. But then nice Hal returns, frightened that Lord Hal is harder to stave off with each passing day. Two glasses of blood are in front of the vampires, and Ian unstraps Hal. They will each take a glass, and one will die with the werewolf blood, and the other kill a bit more of their soul. Ian picks first, and takes his like a shot. Hal moves to take his, only to have it batted away by Alex. Only then do we see Ian burning from the inside, the werewolf blood taking its toll. In a blink, Ian is gone, and Hal is unsure what he was going to do. When they go back to the Hotel, the find Bobby has hung himself in a room. Rook is taking the body away, and snaps at the trio. Tom is crushed, blaming himself for not taking better care of the wolf. Alex questions the suicide, for Bobby was so excited about his life, about the future. As she is about to leave, she notices the cranky old man, the Devil, looking right at her. Back at the B&B, Hal is struggling with a flask of blood given to him by Rook a few episodes ago. He tries to fight it, but finally drinks thirstily. Oh, Hal.

Now that Rook is in league with the Devil, how will he be with our friends? How will Hal's quest to stay clean be hurt by his slip? How will Tom forgive himself for Bobby's death? Can the three fight the Devil, even though they don't know he is there? 'Being Human' can be seen at 10PM on Saturday nights on BBC America! For more about the show, visit the official website here.
