David Raleigh • The Videos

 photo DavidRaleigh16_zps591d1bdb.jpg

Later on tonight, I will be in New York City to attend the launch of the latest from David Raleigh, the wonderful singer, songwriter, and pianist. I first discovered Raleigh about four years ago, when he worked on a project with some very talented men, but I will get to that shortly. Once I heard him, I needed to hear more, so I soon found his solo stuff. Man, am I glad I did. His music is just as special ass the man is, and I can't get enough. You want to know much I love David? I will be traveling to see him, and will be missing one of my favorite guilty pleasures, 'Sleepy Hollow'.

As I said before, I first found David by way of a project he worked on with some very talented men. David collaborated with Tony Award winner Billy Porter, the gifted Sir Ari Gold, and intriguing Alan Cumming on "That's What Friends Are For", a new look at the classic best remembered for the 1985 version by Dione Warwick and Friends, with Gladys Knight, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder joining Dione to raise money for AmFar. The song was written by Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach. Raleigh, Porter, Cumming and Gold revived it to also raise money, for the Ali Fortney Center, a New York City shelter for homeless GLBT youth. The song was produced by Nathan Leigh Jones. This is David, Billy, Alan and Ari with "That's What Friends Are For".

You can purchase the single from iTunes. I think the money will still go to the great cause. Watching this video, and purchasing the song, lead me to find other music by Raleigh, and I was able to do that fairly quickly. Not long on YouTube, and I had a great new music video I kept watching, time and time again. There is such joy and love emanating from the core of "I Do!", and I knew once again, I was addicted. This is David Raleigh with the great song, "I Do!".

I quickly found out that "I Do!" was just the first single off his recently released album, 'Beginning Again'. Once I found it, I purchased the album, and found a wealth of great music that warmed my heart, and inspired my soul. I was very excite when it was time for a second video to be released, and was thrilled it was the beautiful "One Together". The song is a stunning song that goes directly to the heart of love, and I just adore it. This is the official music video for "One Together".

I must admit, I was near giddy with excitement when I heard David would release "Do It To Me", the first single/video from the new album, 'The Equation of Love'. And once I heard it, I was understood why. The song once again as the joy and love I have come to expect from Raleigh's music, and more. It made me so eager to hear the rest of the album, and I am so glad that time is almost hear. This is the official music video for "Do It To Me".

This evening, I will be hearing many of the songs from 'The Equation of Love' played live, and be leaving with my own copy. For that, my friends, you can be jealous. Or you can join us! To learn more about David Raleigh, visit his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter, and 'like' him on Facebook. You can find his music at your favorite online music stores. You can purchase 'Beginning Again' from iTunes and Amazon. Today is the official release date for 'The Equation of Love', and you can find it on iTunes and Amazon.

New Album Coming From Tom Goss

Tom Goss with Bear photo Tom_Goss_with_Bear_zpse86d9b6f.jpg

Singer/songwriter and blog favorite Tom Goss is getting ready to go back in the studio to record his next album, and is offering his fans an opportunity to pre-order the album, and get all kinds of perks! "I'm excited to announce that in one month I'll be holed away in the studio," he announced, "making the best record I've ever made." Part of this announcement comes with the news of eight different pre-order packages, offering the new album and more. It has been over a year and a half since his last release, the beautiful 'Lost Songs and Underdogs'. That album included the beautiful song Tom wrote for his wedding to Michael. Listen as he sings "I Do".

"One of the things I love about how music is currently delivered, is the ability to get something seriously cool and personal from the artist" Goss explained. Tom, always an artist who stays in touch with his fans, asked what they might like in addition to new music. "Last month, I asked you what you wanted, and now I'm giving it to you!" So the options range from autographed albums and pictures, guitar picks, to t-shirts, additional music, a personalized 30 second song perfect for your voice mail message to time in the studio, or three days on the road with Tom! I am not sure how long these options will be available, so make sure you check them out soon. But before we go there, I will remind you about Tom's most recent single, the delicious "Bears", with a video like few I've ever seen before, and only Tom can deliver.

I will admit I've been a fan of Tom's music since I first saw his open for Eric Him at the World Cafe in Philly in 2007, collecting and loving every album since. His music is wonderfully positive, so life affirming I can't help but love it. There is a joy to it, and it is a feeling Tom shares through his music every time you hear him. You can pre-order the new album at Tom's official online store. To learn more about Tom, visit his official website. Check out his touring schedule, for you won't want to miss him if he is playing in your area. You can also follow him on Twitter, or like him on Facebook.

Tom Goss - For The Love of Mike...

I have seen Tom Goss many a time, and each has it's own special memory. I have so many pictures of this handsome man, but it was only at the last show that I screwed up the courage to videotape him, and I am so glad I did. The first clip here is Tom singing King of Something Right, talking about two of his favorite topics - Love and his husband, Michael. It is from his Rise EP.

For the second clip, I picked something form his latest album, the brilliant Turn It Around. Once again, he is discussing his love for Michael, and doing so in the most charming and endearing fashion. Here is I Do.

OK, Tom, your birthday was yesterday, but somehow or another, I screwed up. So, as I sit here listening to Sigue Sigue Sputnik, cause I was in just one of those moods, you know, I decided I would try to keep it simple, so for starters, here is a beautiful rendition of Tom's Till The End.

Next is another of my favorite songs, King of Something Right. While I love the song itself, I also love how you have managed to change it up over time, always keeping it fresh.

And, finally, I had to include a song from your latest album, Turn It Around, cause it is just so freaking good. I Do is a sweet song, cause even if you are picking on Micheal just a little, I know it is just in fun. After all, he is your husband!

So, after this little homage to you with videos I took at the last show in Philly, and some of my favorite pictures I have taken over the years, I figure I should also give all my favorite links, you know? Like people can go here and purchase this Turn It Around on iTunes. You can order an actual CD from Amazon.Com here. To learn more about Tom, other than what you can learn here, like he is just adorable, talented and sweet, you can check him out at his official website, here. There you can listen to his music for free before you buy it. And speaking of free, you can download some free music here. And before I finish, I thought one more picture from Delaware Pride.

New Music - Amy Heffernan

Being Awesome is Amy Heffernan's first full-length release, released in the second-half of last year, in late August. Amy is a Canadian-born musician who spent some time in Los Angeles before returning to Alberta. Like her debut EP, the songs on Being Awesome were written by Amy, her brother, veteran singer/songwriter Doug Heffernan, and Steve Giles. The music is infectious Rock, much like Pink or Kelly Clarkson, with a stronger musicality. I couldn't help but think Pink meets Pat Benatar meets Melissa Ethridge, with a dash of Lady GaGa, adding the complexity of structure and lyric to the usual sugary Pop-Rock. The album opens with title song, which opens with the immortal words 'Right now I'm just a drink away from being awesome.' I mean, come on, we've all been there. The following videos were shot at shows at Molly Malone's in LA.

That is immediately followed by the rocking Can't Wait, a song focusing on the fun side of life, perfect to remember those nights at a beach resort. Knowing is a great song, a slightly darker sounding rocker, with a New Wave edge. Slowing things down a touch, the mid-tempo Over Again adds some pop elements, wedding the power ballad to a strident guitar sound. Another highlight on the album is I Do, a mid-tempo ballad about one of those late-night conversations with a lover.

I Do is followed on the disk by Just Dance, a cover of the Lady GaGa song, taking the electronics away to replace them with a more rough-hewn rock edge.

Next up is Used To Be A Light, a rocker with more of a Benatar sound, the electric guitar driving the rhythm. It has this satisfying current sound with the 80s flair. Word comes on next, slowing things down with another ballad, a story of loss and breakup, without the self-pity. That is when I realized the nice thing about Amy's music is she is a strong woman who knows herself, and refuses to play the victim. The Ethridge influence isn't so much the sound, but the attitude. She's a strong woman who can easily stand on her own. In fact, in the closing song, the ballad The Enemy, she tells a lover when breaking up to go ahead and blame her if you have to, cause she has the strength to carry it, even if they can't.

Being Awesome is available on iTunes here, and well worth the purchase. You can also find out more about Amy at her website here, or visit her MySpace page here. Here is one Canadian who could take over the airwaves in the States.
