Date Night • It's Time To Tell

The cast of 'It's Time to Tell'

Well, tonight is a sweet film that tells a stroy in less than 14 minutes that has been lived time and time again over the last few decades. 'It's Time To Tell' is a 2012 short from Galaxia Productions, written, directed, edited, and produced by Dominic Amato. The story is based on a true story, and it is convincingly told. A young boy, experiencing his first taste of freedom while away at college, makes a serious self-discovery during his freshman year. As he plans on sharing his realization with his family when he is home for Thanksgiving break. The cast includes Jonathan Stryker, JoAnn Bromley, Eliana Ghen, Ariel Hopes, Adrian Sardny, Brad Meaney, Trent Baker, Thom Barry, Anna Dragif, and Kristin Leder.

I will also tell you my ears pricked up when music started to play, and I instantly recognized the voice of singer/songwriter Richard Cortez, and his wonderful song "The Poor Man's Love Song". The song is so sweet, so tender, it is hard to not love it. The song, found on his album EP 'rec[cord]', is just good for my soul to hear every so often. This is the official music video for the song "The Poor Man's Love Song", written and sung by Richart Cortez.

For more about Richard Cortez, visit his official website. You can also find him on Facebook. You can purchase [rec]ord from iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. To learn more about Galaxia Productions and Dominic Amato, visit the official website.

Richard Cortez • [rec]ord

Richard Cortez [rec]ord cover

Handsome and charming out singer/songwriter Richard Cortez has released a new EP, and you really should add it to your music collection. Richard combines Folk, Rock and Pop to make an enticing meal of music on [rec]ord. Starting with the first cut, The Poor Man's Love Song, Cortez has a charming conversational style that makes the song so intimate, so confessional, you can't help but love it. Here is a version Richard leading a group of kids from the Cooper City Community School Theater Camp.

No, that isn't the version that is on the album, but you can just tell by the warmth factor it is one you'll need to hear with your iPod on repeat. Hopefully, there will be a video coming soon that I will share with you all. The next cut is another charming song, A La Mode. It has a slice-of-life feel, with a stream-of-consciousness factor that reminds me what new love is all about, even when sitting at Denny's late on a weekend. There is a bouncy charisma to The Next Best Thing. I am telling you, I am listening and thinking about Burt Bacharach and Hal David, but know they having written anything this contemporary. The song has both whimsy and heart. The fourth track, Going Gone, has a sexiness that packs heat. It tells of the liberation of come to terms with yourself, and coming out. The final cut is Patsy Cline, a song that captures those moments Patsy always sang about, and so heartfelt. And it is a great way to end the EP, with such a strong song. Here is a preview of the songs on [rec]ord.

It Gets Better - Richard Cortez

"I came out in the 7th grade, and that's when the taunting and traumatizing on behalf of my peers toward me began and it didn't really end until I left high school." That is how the story of Richard Cortez begins. A post featuring the singer/songwriter ran last month, for I really enjoy his music. But it is his own life experience and hope for the future that Cortez shares in this clip, his answer to the request put out by writer Dan Savage in response to a recent increase in suicides by youth bullied because they were perceived to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

For more about Richard Cortez, you can check out his official website here. If you are someone, or know someone who might be feeling the effects of prejudice and bullying, here is the website for The Trevor Project. They have set up a hotline that can be reached at (866)488-7386. Share the number with those how you think might benefit, because the teenage years are hard enough without the additional issues discovering you are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, and the pain inflicted on those youth by people with small minds.

New Artist - Richard Cortez

Well, as I was surfing around a bit on YouTube, I came across an artist I didn't really know, so I decided to give him a listen. The artist, by the way, is Richard Cortez, and all I know about him was what I saw at a glance from the YouTube picture - he was cute, and liked to play with no shirt on. Guess that was enough for me. So, I clicked and hit play, just to see. And this is what I heard.

Needless to say, I am impressed with this beautiful song. Over, Again touches a place in my heart, and it is quite pretty. So I guess I have some research to do. Cortez is from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, he founded Wollenberg Records in 2004, and is an out and proud performer. I have more checking out to do on this one, but for more information, check out the website here. I found the pictures for this post there. But while I check out more music, I hope you enjoyed this wonderful clip.
