Live • Overcome • 9/11 Remembered

911 Firemen

The band Live was set to release their fifth studio album on September 18, 2001.One week before the album hit the stands, the horrendous attacks on the United States happened, killing and injuring people in New York City, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Some had heard a song on the album, and it quickly hit a nerve. It spoke to a nation that was overcome with so many emotions, and became associated with 9/11. Here is a film created as a tribute to those who died in the attacks, both the victims and those brave First Responders who risked their lives to help others.

Live released the song, and gave the money made from the single to charities assisting the injured, and the families of the dead. You can purchase the song on iTunes and Amazon. Today, we can remember those who lost lives, and be grateful to the First Responders who risk their lives, not just on 9/11 but every single day, as they save lives time and time again with little to no thanks.

911 • You'll Never Walk Alone

911 Victims
911 Memorial

Above, you see a collage of photos of the victims of 911, and the mosaic is both beautiful, and heart-breaking. There is also a photograph of the beautiful Memorial in New York City. Below is a a moving tribute to 911 that still brings a tear to my eye, eleven years later.

A studio version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" is available for purchase on both iTunes and Amazon.

911 • Delaware Stair Climb 2011

Last year, I was lucky enough to be invited by my niece and nephew to bring my camera as they took part in the Delaware Stair Climb at Dover Downs in Dover, Delaware. So, on Sunday, September 11, 2011, as the nation marked the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the firefighters of Station 54, the Little Creek Fire Department, joined many other volunteer departments in the Delaware Stair Climb, where they came together to climb 110 flights of stairs in memory of their fallen brethren who were lost in the World Trade Center 10 years ago. Senator Tom Carper and Governor Tom Markell were featured speakers before the Climb began. you can click on the photographs to enlarge them.

Firefighters from all over were there to honor their fallen comrades, and were proud to do so. Men and women of all ages took part in this, and cheered each other on. While I was there, I also took a bit of video while I was there. Check out this quick 3 minute clip of the Station 54's effort to complete the climb.

While I made it for the first two trips up Tower 1, I quickly figured I wouldn't make it up 110 flights, so I stepped aside and take my role as photographer seriously. In the next section, I included a picture of some of the twisted steel from the World Trade Center.

For me, this was a fitting tribute to the fallen first responders in 2001. I was glad I was there to see it, and thrilled to be able to share the pictures with everyone. It is these people, the ones who are there when you need them the most, that should be honored and remembered on days like today.

Remembering 911

Taking time to remember the First Responders who gave so much in a time of need. Eleven years ago, when the nation was caught off-guard by four planes being hijacked, so many men and women came forward to not only save lives, but to give of their own to bring together a nation. Because of those amazing heroes, Americans across the country were able to stand up and be proud, and not fall into a place of fear. But on that day, much of the nation was overcome. Here is the band Live singing "Overcome".

Oddly enough, "Overcome" was on the fifth album from the band fronted by Ed Kowalczyk. 'V' was released September 18, 2001, one week after the hijacking. That didn't stop many from realizing "Overcome" was a perfect song for the time. You can purchase 'V' on iTunes and Amazon.

Later, I handed my video camera to Jack, a member of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company, as he agreed to take us up Tower 6 of Dover International Speedway with Station 54.

9/11 Remembered

9/11 Remembered

The song is Overcome, by the band Live. The song was not written in response to the attacks. It was written before, and once the band recognized how it completely described how they felt that day, they knew they had to release it, in case others would identify with those same feelings.
