New Years Resolutions

Photobucket Breathe
Tom Waits
Clockwise: Dylan Rice; Breathe; Tom Waits; and Shane Mack.

I decided that since we are coming up on the last week of January, it was time to discuss all those New Years Resolutions that were made in a fit of panic, or a somewhat altered state. No matter the case, for a majority of people, by this time all the Resolutions made have been broken in one way or another. They have been forgotten, actively abolished, or willpower has not held. But, no matter the reason, they hare a thing of the past, much like certain bets in bars with your best friend, or promises to call that one-night-stand the next day. So,whenever I hear resolutions or the aforementioned promises being made, I feel like shouting one thing: lies! Even on New Years Eve, as a friend is sipping on their cocktail, once they start the sentence with "my New Years Resolution will be..." I hear Dylan Rice singing in my head, to his amazing song off the 2004 album Wandering Eyes. Yes, my mind starts hearing The Lie.

I have always loved that song, and that whole album. You can find Dylan Rice on iTunes and on Amazon.

There are also times when my 1980s retrospective comes online, and the next thing I know, I am hearing the lovely voices of Breathe sing on of their big hits, Don't Tell Me Lies from the 1987 album All That Jazz. Man, this is so infectious, there are times I swear I can't get it out of my head!

See, now it might be stuck in your head! You can find Breathe on iTunes and on Amazon.

And there are many times she the gorgeous voice of the handsome Shane Mack comes into my head, singing to something I or a close friend has said. Well, that he sang, as part of the soundtrack to the Movie Shelter, released in 2007. I have been waiting for at least five years for Mack to put out an album, and have yet to be greeted with a definite answer. Until then, I will be content to listen to Lie To Me by Shane.

That song is all kinds of sexy and sultry, I think I would lose it if I saw him performing that in person. You can find Shane Mack on Music From The Here! Original Film Shelter on iTunes and on Amazon.

And, finally, we have a sweet little ditty by the same name by the outrageously talented Tom Waits. Here is Tom singing Lie To Me from his 2006's Orphans album. And check out this clever video for the song.

I just find Waits almost impossible to resist. You can find Tom Waits on iTunes and on Amazon. And that is what I think of New Years Resolutions!

Kenny Chesney • Somewhere With You

Kenny Chesney Shane Mack

OK, I will admit that normally, Kenny Chesney is not on the top of my playing list. However, I just heard him sing this on the radio, and I was completely blown away. You see, I recognized the song. One of the co-writers is someone I love, and can't understand why I still don't have an album by him in my collection. But first, I'll let you hear what I did, Kenny singing an absolutely gorgeous song, Somewhere With You.

Well, if you haven't figured it out yet, I am talking about the brilliant Shane Mack. You might remember him as the man who wrote and performed by several songs on the soundtrack for the amazing movie, Shelter. So I am thrilled the out singer/songwriter is getting songs picked upby other artists, and hope this means I will finally be getting that album I have wanted since I found his music on Myspace so very long ago. Yeah, remember Myspace? Well, remember this song? It is Lie To Me from Shelter.

And here is another album from Shane, Wreckage. Superstar Kelly Clarkson sang it live at concerts. But I still love Shane's version.

And here is Shane performing with Ashley Arrison, in Nashville. He is singing If I Stay, an exquisite song. I love the song, his performance, and Ashley's perfect backing vocals. Put this on a record, and I would be near giddy.

Well, to find more about Shane, you can check out his Facebook page here, or his Myspace page here. You know, the fifth post I wrote on this blog was about Shane, begging for a CD here. Guess what? I am still waiting!

Friday Night with Shane Mack

In the past, I have made it quite clear how much I love the music of Shane Mack. To the best of my knowledge, you can purchase his songs as part of the soundtrack for the amazing movie Shelter, but no album of his own. For me, this is damn near criminal, as I find myself listening to his music all the time, on YouTube, his MySpace page, and some downloads I purchased from SnowCap on his MySpace, and still cannot get enough. The songs are beautifully written, and his voice can go from a honey-whisper to bold statement, making his recordings very special. Take, for example, one of my favorites, Clean. Lyrically, it is amazing, and he is so connected to the emotions, I love listening.

The song More Than This was also part of the Shelter soundtrack. While not very long, it is rich and beautiful.

I am also fond of his Remember To Forget. The song is a bittersweet nod to the end of a relationship. There is that period of time you remember all the good times, whether you want to or not.

Another song I love is Wreckage. If you want more proof of his talent, here is a cover by Kelly Clarkson, and before she starts the song, she talks about this 'amazing' talent.

So, I stand strong in wanting my Shane Mack album! For more, you can check him out on the MySpace link above, or on FaceBook here. And if you haven't seen Shelter, you really should. That is a great movie. You can find the Shelter soundtrack on Amazon here or on iTunes here.

Shane Mack (with Ashley Arrison) - Somewhere With You

shane mack

An amazing singer/songwriter, Shane Mack has the looks, voice and talent to be a big star, yet still has yet to put out an album that I am aware of. I find that to be a source of confusion and frustration. Here he is singing one of his songs, Somewhere With You, as a duet with Ashley Arrison.

Shane is perhaps best known for writing several songs on the soundtrack to the movie Shelter. The following clip is Lie To Me. It is a stunning song.

For more on Shane, check out his MySpace page here.

Welcome New Followers

Well, this has been a busy week, between the Bloggy nomination, the Kreativ Blogger Award, and several new followers joining the family. In fact, there have been four in the last few days! So I'd like to welcome SE, mrosstheboss, Punk and Cecilia Villero.

Top: SE & Punk. Bottom: Cecilia & MRossTheBoss.

SE is one of the team members for the blog Skeptical Eye. For a little more background, try SE's page here. Punk is a Google member from Atlanta, Georgia, who says her interests are "Music, writing, punctuation, grammar, Canada. Why Canada? I wish I knew." You can find more about her here. Cecilia is from Brighton, Massachusetts, and a Google member. You can find her page here. MRossTheBoss is a Canadian friend with a blog that can be found here. Sounds like our type of person, for the 'about me' includes "most of all i like music, sharing it, listening to it, groovin to it, pretending i know how to mix it."

Thanks for joining the group and I hope we get a chance to hear from you soon. In my own way of extending a welcome, I offer you one of my favorite artists [admittedly, I have many] singing a song I really love. In this case, it is a song written by the stunningly handsome Shane Mack, who also sings with Ashley Arrison, to the song Someone Like You. By the way, I am still waiting for a Shane Mack album. I mean, the boy is just so very talented!

REPORT - Shane Mack - I Want a CD

Another of my favorite singer/songwriters is Shane Mack, a gorgeous blond with a stunning voice, and an injured soul. As far as I know, Shane has yet to release a CD, but I had found him a few years ago on MySpace, and DL'ed his music. He had several songs I loved, but I was especially fond of 'Lie To Me,' I mean, we've all been there, haven't we?

Then the song was on the soundtrack to the movie 'Shelter,' which is a great movie BTW with some beautiful boys, and was released by HERE! Shane has a couple more songs on that soundtrack, including 'More Than This' and 'I Like That.' They are also excellent, but some of his other songs just speak to me so much more. There is 'Wreckage' - he has an acoustic version I purchased from SnoCap on his MySpace page - and 'Clean' - another acoustic version that makes me think - and 'Last Train Better' - a great song that plays with sanity and tempo - and 'If I Stay' - a gorgeous love song that has lines like 'It hurts if I stay, but it's worse if I stay...away.' Damn.

So, when do I get to buy my Shane Mack CD? I want it!

Great Movies - Shelter

shelter
shelter

Shelter is everything a great movie should be - a wonderful story told with great emotion and clarity. It is the story of a young man, Zach (played by Trevor Wright), born on the wrong side of the tracks, as he comes to grips with his being gay. He struggles hard as his family can't cope, and might cause him to lose contact with his nephew, Cody (played by Jackson Wurth). He falls for his best friends brother, played by the gorgeous Brad Rowe.

It is the directorial debut of Jonah Markowitz, who also wrote the script. And while both Rowe and Wright are str8 boys, they do an excellent job acting.

The soundtrack featured the music of several LGBT artists, including the singer/songwriters Shane Mack and Stewart Lewis. Mack did the main theme, Lie To Me, which I featured in an earlier post. There is also the song Remember To Forget, More Than This, and I Like That.

You can purchase the DVD at Amazon. The soundtrack is available on iTunes.
