Kate Bush • Mother Stands For Comfort

Kate Bush photo KateBush_zpsf3931f07.jpg

Happy Mother's Day to all who lend a hand in raising children, and making their lives just a little, or a lot, better! As a tribute to all the Mothers out there, I thought I would give you a little more Kate Bush, which is always a good thing. Here is Kate singing "Mother Stands For Comfort" off the album 'Hounds of Love'.

Happy Mother's Day!

Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush • Don't Give Up

Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush

Continuing on with the series dedicated to the 2012 London Olympic Games, here is something all the athletes must keep in mind. I am sure that somewhere along their journey to the Olympic Village, there was a time they weren't sure if they should or could continue to chase their dream. In 1989, British superstars Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush released "Don't Give Up", a stunning song that seems very appropriate for today. In it, Gabriel touches on the despair of being in a bad economic situation, while Bush calls for him, and us all, to not give up.

"Don't Give Up" is a song off Gabriel's album So. You can purchase the album on iTunes and Amazon.

Cover Boy • Will Young

Just before he released his latest album, Echoes, Will Young released a beautiful acoustic version of Kate Bush's exceptional song, Running Up That Hill. It most certainly is Will's take on the song, I am an unabashed fan of Kate Bush, and think this cover is layered and nuanced, just so very lovely.

The latest single off the new album, Come On, is one I like very much. What I didn't realize that is is essentially also a cover, have been first recorded in 2009 by the British ElectroPop group, Kish Mauve.

The first single off the new album, Jealousy, is another wonderful song, and the first to get an official video. I like the song very much, but this video is great!

While I would love to give you a link to Will's latest album on iTunes, I can't. At least not on the USA iTunes. You can find it on Amazon, where you can purchase it as an import. Check it out here. You can find his official website here, and his official Facebook here. Also, I just started watching a new series on BBC America. Bedlam featured Will in one of the central roles, and he is very good indeed.

Five on the 5th - October 2011

New 5 on the 5th Banner

It is time once again for Five on the 5th, and this month, Stephen Chapman has given the theme of PLEASURE. To tell the truth, I've been busy the last month or so, attending parties and soccer games for my niece, nephew, and great-nephew. And taking pictures. So, several of my selections for this month will come out of those events. If you'd like to check out the others who are taking part in Five on the 5th, click here and pick different sites from the list on the page.

As I am wont to add music to all my posts, I decided to go with Kate Bush' Moments Of Pleasure, to abide by the theme presented. It is the new version, from the album Director's Cut. You can find the album anywhere music is sold, including iTunes and Amazon. So hit play, and check out the new pictures.

Sunday Morning with Kate Bush

It is tough to think about what you can say about certain artists, and Kate Bush is one of those. There are seminal characters in history, and for me, she is definitely one of them. She stood tall and strong for her art at a time when women were not really given credit for being much more than singers. As a singer/songwriter, she didn't let that stop her, penning great songs, recording them, and getting them noticed.

It might not be out of line to say that without Kate Bush, there might not have been a place for Annie Lennox or Cyndi Lauper or some of the other great ladies of the 80s, like Madonna. Without her had work, dedication, and ultimate success, the face of music might indeed be very different. And it would be lacking, that is for sure.

Take, for instance, the incredible song, This Woman's Work. A cut off the 1989 album The Sensual World, has a beauty and honesty that very few have been able to accomplish.

And then there is the sultry and almost succulent sound of And So Is Love. This 1994 cut off The Red Shoes. It features Eric Clapton on guitar.

Funny, after finding this clip on YouTube on the heels of the last video, I felt the need to go back and give the album, The Red Shoes, another listen. Indeed, I was that inspired by Moments of Pleasure

It is funny, but as I was writing this, I found a press release saying that in May, Ms. Bush will be releasing an album of remastered and reworked songs from Red Shoes & The Sensual World, two albums I was listening to. Sometimes, the planets just align in ways I find a bit scary. For more about Kate Bush, check out her official website here. It is a work in progress at the moment, but it does have links for Twitter, FaceBook and YouTube.

Worth Another Listen - Kate Bush

Discovered as a 16-year-old by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, and by 1978 she had her first hit single, Wuthering Heights, thus becoming the first woman to have written and performed her song to reach the top spot on the British charts. Her big entrance into the American market was the 1985 release Hounds of Love, which gave her the one and only appearance in the US Top 40. That song was Running Up That Hill, with a quirky video that played non-stop on MTV when it used to have VJs [Video Jockeys] and still have 'music' in the title. The song reached #30 on the UP Pop chart.

All the subsequent releases from the album didn't make it to the chart, but the esoteric style and chameleon-like changes in her looks never let the public cozy up to her. She was also tough to categorize, being called everything from Neo-Punk to Art Rock. But her music was still incredibly good, including the song Cloudbusting, one of her truly memorable songs.

The title cut was another great song. She opened the door for many of the ladies who followed her, being taken serious as a smart and vibrant artist who could do more than stand there and sing pretty. She maintained an active involvement in the creation of her music, videos and live performances.

After the 1993 release of The Red Shoes, Bush stepped out of the business for many years, and raised her children. But she did finally return with the 2005 release Aerial, which made it to #3 in the UK, and #48 in the US. She is reported to be still writing music and interested in putting out another album. We can only hope. For more on Kate Bush, check out her official website here.
