John Barrowman • You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To

John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter

I thought I would bring a treat today, and that would be the always delicious John Barrowman. While I do miss him playing Captain Jack Harkness on either 'Torchwood' and/or 'Doctor Who,' I am grateful to have him on my screen in 'Arrow' on The CW. I would also kill to get the chance to see him performing live, but that doesn't seem in the cards at the moment. But until I get the chance, I have all his albums, including the incredible 'John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter'. The album is just sensational, including "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", a favorite of mine.

John Barrowman Swings

John Barrowman

In 2004, the very handsome and talented John Barrowman released a wonderful album, 'John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter'. For many, Barrowman first came to their attention in the 1989 West End Production of Porter's 'Anything Goes', opposite the great Elaine Paige. His voice and charm are a perfect fit for Porter, and had the two been alive during the same period, I am sure John would have been a muse for the brilliant Porter. Barrowman's album is a brilliant collection, as you can tell with a listen to "Ca, C'est L'Amour", written by Cole in 1957 for the MGM musical, 'Les Girls'.

The next song has music by Cole Porter and lyrics by Porter and Robert Fletcher. It was written for the 1934 musical 'Adios, Argentina', which never was made. The lyrics were based on a poem written by Fletcher, a poet and railroad engineer. In 1944, "Don't Fence Me In" finally had it's film debut, sung by Roy Rogers in the movie 'Hollywood Canteen'. And though the song was recorded by many others, including Kate Smith, Bing Crosby, Gene Autrey, and Willie Nelson, it became a song closely associated with cowboy Roy Rogers. Sixty years later, Barrowman recorded the song once again, and claims it for himself.

Sunday Morning with John Barrowman

John Barrowman

He can sing, he can act, and he looks damn good in and out of his clothes, so what could be better waking up on a lazy Sunday morning to the lush sound of Barrowman singing to you? I agree, that sounds about as good as it gets. Check out John singing Anything Goes on the set of Torchwood, and tell me it doesn't give you ideas...

John also had an album out called John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter, and it is a total delight. Barrowman has the voice, the charm, and the sense of humor to deliver the songs exactly as needed. Check out You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To.

He also does a magnificent job with After You, Who?, keeping it swinging and filled with charm.

So, wouldn't you love to be waking up to Barrowman singing to you today? His partner, Scott, is a very lucky man.
