Live • Overcome • 9/11 Remembered

911 Firemen

The band Live was set to release their fifth studio album on September 18, 2001.One week before the album hit the stands, the horrendous attacks on the United States happened, killing and injuring people in New York City, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Some had heard a song on the album, and it quickly hit a nerve. It spoke to a nation that was overcome with so many emotions, and became associated with 9/11. Here is a film created as a tribute to those who died in the attacks, both the victims and those brave First Responders who risked their lives to help others.

Live released the song, and gave the money made from the single to charities assisting the injured, and the families of the dead. You can purchase the song on iTunes and Amazon. Today, we can remember those who lost lives, and be grateful to the First Responders who risk their lives, not just on 9/11 but every single day, as they save lives time and time again with little to no thanks.

Remembering 911

911 Firemen

Taking time to remember the First Responders who gave so much in a time of need. Eleven years ago, when the nation was caught off-guard by four planes being hijacked, so many men and women came forward to not only save lives, but to give of their own to bring together a nation. Because of those amazing heroes, Americans across the country were able to stand up and be proud, and not fall into a place of fear. But on that day, much of the nation was overcome. Here is the band Live singing "Overcome".

Oddly enough, "Overcome" was on the fifth album from the band fronted by Ed Kowalczyk. 'V' was released September 18, 2001, one week after the hijacking. That didn't stop many from realizing "Overcome" was a perfect song for the time. You can purchase 'V' on iTunes and Amazon.

9/11 Remembered

9/11 Remembered

The song is Overcome, by the band Live. The song was not written in response to the attacks. It was written before, and once the band recognized how it completely described how they felt that day, they knew they had to release it, in case others would identify with those same feelings.

Frank Zappa - The Torture Never Stops

Frank Zappa
Frank Zappa Frank Zappa

Well, since I have posted videos featuring both Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa, it seems only appropriate that I also post one featuring the father, Frank. There are some who might say his music was an acquired taste, but I think that is debatable. His music was the easiest part to get - it was the humor that was tough at times. Honestly, I think there were some of my friends in college who listened to Zappa who never got it, and just like screaming 'you're an asshole...' They never realized they were that asshole that was being discussed. Well, that said, here is a favorite of mine, The Torture Never Stops.

Rest in Peace, Daddy-Zappa.

911 Anniversary

Just a beautiful tribute from the band Live, and lead singer Ed Kowalczyk.

I know that some regions have trouble seeing the Vevo videos clips, so here is another version, and hope all who'd like to see it can.

Saturday Rocks - Live

live,ed kowalczyk

Ed Kowalczyk, Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey first started playing together in school in York, Pennsylvania, in the 80s, and were together for more than 20 years before deciding to end the group in rather turbulent fashion last year, declaring the proposed hiatus was in fact a break up, although Taylor, Dahlheimer and Gracey seemed to want to focus the blame on Kowalczyk, who seemed to be the creative center for much of the time the band was together.

Right out of the gate, their heavy and intense alternative rock sound seemed to resonate with the buying public, as their debut album, Mental Jewelry, secured the level of platinum. But those numbers skyrocketed with the second album, Throwing Copper, which earned 8 x platinum level of sales on the strength of some amazing singles. The second was I Alone, released in 1994.

Next up was one of my favorite songs, Lightning Crashes. The intensity of the performances is incredible, and this is when I developed a huge crush on lead singer Kowalczyk. While there have been many interpretations of the lyrics, Kowalczyk himself says it is not about death, but more about the renewal of life and hope, as in life, when there is loss, at that same time, there is a baby being born elsewhere.

Another 1995 release was All Over You. Kowalczyk often wrote about the varying forms of love, be it love lost, found, or the struggle in between. This performance of the song is from the 1995 MTV Unplugged show they did.

The second release from the third album, Secret Samadhi, was the amazing song, Freaks. The song focuses on the intolerance Kowalczyk perceived to be rife in the world.

Ed Kowalczyk is set to release his solo album, Alive, next month. I look forward to hearing it.

Worth Another Listen - Live

Live (band)

In the 90s, I was all about these boys. Live was the name of a band form Pennsylvania, consisting of Ed Kowalczyk, Chad Taylor, Adam Kowalczyk, Patrick Dalheimer, and Chad Gracey. I loved the music, and everything they did. The CD Throwing Copper was a revelation for me. And Ed Kowalczyk is very hot. This is I Alone.
