I couldn't be happier to discover Brett Gleason has another music video out in support of his eponymous full-length debut. The video features the song "Futile & Fooled", a song first included on the EP 'The Dissonance'. It was there I first fell in love with the song, in the demo form. The sound has a layered and textured feel, a Progressive Rock song that effectively combines emotional Rock with Jazz progressions and flavors, as well as the throaty sound of Gleason's voice. When it all comes together, it creates something glorious, which I find irresistible. This is Brett Gleason in the music video for "Futile & Fooled".

I once said this song made me think Brett was the lost lovechild of Frank Zappa and Robert Smith (of The Cure), who had Allen Ginsburg as a nanny. Add a little Miles Davis to the mix, and, well, you get the idea. You can purchase 'Brett Gleason' from iTunes, Amazon, and BandCamp. For more about Brett, you can check out his official website. You can also 'follow' him on Twitter and Tumblr, and 'like' him on Facebook.

Thawing Out with Brett Gleason

Brett Gleason

After hearing his first EP, The Dissonance, I knew I wanted to hear more from Brett Gleason. So I was quite excited to hear he was hard at work on his next EP, The Thawing. All five tracks have been laid down, and now comes the time to finish it off. There is mastering, design, videos, and more to do. It all costs money, and Brett is looking for some assistance, but not as much as you might think. Here, I'll let him explain it to you.

On his Kickstarter page, you can see there are many options, and no matter the choice, you get something for your money. I've already chosen how I will support this great out and proud artist, but if you'd like an idea of what you can do, read on! For $5, you can download a couple of songs from The Dissonance. For $10, you can get those downloads, plus a sneak peak at some new music. $25 gets you that, and a sneak peak at all five tracks as they become ready. For $50, you get an autographed copy of The Dissonance, as well as the peaks at the tracks. For $100, you can get a hand-made t-shirt on top of the rest. Well, you get the idea, and can check it out for yourself. Would you like to see your name in the credits of the EP? Have the chance to get a "thank you" in New York City in person? Or how about a private music lesson? All is possible, so check it out! Visit Brett on Kickstarter!

In case you need a bit more coaxing than just looking into those eyes pictured above, here is Brett's video for Futile And Fooled, by the same director shooting the Destruction video.

Brett Gleason Makes Some Noise

Brett Gleason

I will admit I being a bit late to the party for Brett Gleason, who I just recently come across online. I happened upon a link to a video from his EP The Dissonance in an interview, and he seemed rather bright and well-spoken. I do have a fondness for Prog-Rock, his chosen mode of musical expression. After watching the video, I eagerly tracked down the EP to add it to my music collection.

Brett Gleason - The Dissonance

That video was for first track off the EP, I Am Not. I was immediately intrigued by it, for it was musically interesting and textured, perhaps even a tad on the baroque side. When I asked about his videos once, he said he he thinks of his videos as mini-horror films. I agree, and would love to see more of them!

Brett's music reminds me more of the ProgRock of the great Frank Zappa than of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, bringing the music with more jazz flavor, and a bit of darkness in the lyrical content. If I were to describe his music in one very long sentence, I would say it is what happened when Zappa and late 70s Robert Smith (of The Cure) collaborated to work on a tribute to Allen Ginsberg being produced by Miles Davis. Are you exhausted reading it? Cause I was tired just thinking about it! Futile & Fooled is another cut off the EP, give it a try.

Did I forget to mention Gleason is an out and proud man, one who is devilishly handsome? Or that you can find The Dissonance on iTunes, Amazon.com, and CD Baby? Or on Bandcamp? Or that you can find his official website here? Or on FaceBook here? Or on Twitter here?
