I too ended up buying their CD as I enjoyed seeing them open for Theo (both the "light" version of the band and the full version). It was especially great because we went to multiple shows on Theo's tour, and it was nice going to each one knowing that we would also be enjoying the opening act.

Sue :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263715199313458076.post-29888585745020533102010-09-17T22:52:53.829-04:002010-09-17T22:52:53.829-04:00Blacklight05, thanks for stopping by. I hadn't a clue about them prior to seeing them, and was there all about Theo, so it wasn't really until the Thirsty Monk that I gave them a good listen. Turns out I did like their music, and purchased the album when I got home.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09690597078607161109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6263715199313458076.post-88368414806986288972010-09-17T22:38:50.576-04:002010-09-17T22:38:50.576-04:00What a great review Howard! I was pleasantly surprised to find that I love these guys! I bought their album after the show in Stouffville and listened to it nonstop for a few days. Their sound is very distinctive and enjoyable. Jeremy rocks those keys, and I love that, though I AM partial to the piano ;-) Wishing on a Plastic Star is my favourite of the lot, and a close second is World's Greatest Fadeout--they did the "light" version of this one on the tour because Keith and Erik weren't there, as you mentioned, but I like it much better with the full band--the first time I saw them live it was all 5 of them and this song was incredible. Don't get me wrong, the strength of the piano line stands on its own in this one, which I love, but near the end of the song the guitars come in full force, and some of the power of the ending of the song is lost without all of the band members. I got the feeling that they found it really hard to rein it in a bit when it was just the 3 of them because they really do like to rock it out when the venue is big enough for that :)
They have a 3-track EP called Jumpin' the Skull on iTunes as well. I downloaded that one after talking to Jeremy after one of the shows. I had asked if there was any prior music and he mentioned this one and called it "just some crap from high school". I guess it is a little less polished than their full album, but I like all 3 of the songs, I don't think they're crap at all :)Blacklight05noreply@blogger.com
